Titans off to a very good start tonight, especially with the passing game.

Just so you all know there is a "CCIW in-game updates" board to post updated status of games.

Nice interview with Pete Ittersagen at half time of the Wheaton game.

Still looking to catch on somewhere in the NFL.

Highlighted the speed of the game at the NFL level and the elevated level of QB skill.  He came away from training camp and his time with the Jaguars believing he can play at the next level.

With the game in hand at Wheaton, it'll be interesting to see Jordan Roberts at QB after Norris gets the obligatory first series of the 2nd half.

Sorry about that, I didn't see it.

Roberts goes 4-8 for 66 yards and 1 TD.  Solid outing for a freshman QB and positive sign of things to come post 09'.  3rd string QB in for Wheaton now.

No problem at all... just created that post board last week.  Not many people know about it.  Just an attempt to keep this board focused on basic CCIW discussion and game updates on another.

CCIW is 16-4 thus far in the non-conference schedule.

A somewhat surprising loss by NCC to ONU, a 9-7 loss by Augie to Coe and the 2 losses by NPU.  Without too much of a stretch, 18-2 was conceivable.

Since I fully expected NPU to down Benedictine, I'd say 19-1 was easily conceivable.

Specific game stats have not yet posted for the Carthage game, but here is the game recap found on the Carthage web sight. Looks like they lit it up through the air! Will be curious to find out how Lakeland scored 34 points with only 217 total yards. Mugsy helped out last night on the in-game update page noting an 85 yd kick return and a 55 yard interception returned for TDs for 14 of the points. Mugsy, I'll eventually find you an answer as to why Jones was out of the game late (injury? or enough was enough?) and who threw the final TD pass for Carthage.

The Carthage College football team (2-0, 0-0 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin) defeated Lakeland College (0-3), 50-34, on Saturday night, Sept. 19 at Art Keller Field in Kenosha, Wis.  Carthage collected 621 total offensive yards, 130 rushing and 491 passing, while Lakeland had just 217 total yards, 63 on the ground and 154 in the air.  Evan Jones completed a Carthage-record 40 passes in 53 attempts for a school-record 446 yards and four touchdowns.  Nick Merchut caught 12 passes for 187 yards and three TDs, while Jeff Koeneman snagged 12 passes for 144 yards and a TD.  Mike Oratowski rushed for 68 yards on 11 carries.  Carthage also set school records with 42 pass completions and 33 first downs, the latter breaking a mark 31 set against North Park University in 1971.  Carthage travels to Valparaiso, Ind., on Saturday, Sept. 26 to play NCAA Division I-AA Valparaiso University (1-1) in a 1 p.m. game at Brown Field.

Hey Mugsy, got the answer to your Carthage QB quandary. It was indeed WR Chris Shulz who threw the final TD pass (26 yards). Jones is fine. I wouldn't be surprised to see him named CCIW offensive player of the week with his record breaking performance.

Carthage ran 91 plays to Lakeland's 60. You'd think that time-of-possession would be lopsided, but ended up 33 minutes to 27 in favor of the Red Men. Carthage only committed 2 turnovers while Lakeland had 1. The 3 Lakeland scores not accounted for in the above post were....63 yd pass (3 plays, 65 yds), 12 yd run (9 plays, 65 yds) and 5 yd pass (9 plays, 36 yds). That pretty much accounts for most of their 217 yards. Their punter must have a tired leg today.

Quoting Coach Tim Rucks on the Sept. 19 Lakeland Game:
"It wasn't a clean game by any stretch of the imagination.  We did a lot of things that good football teams just don't do.  Winning football games is hard work, and we did find a way to get this one done.  We'll enjoy the win.  Our heads and our focus wasn't quite where it should have been this past week.  We ran the ball a little bit better tonight, but we have to get better still at that part of the game.  Overall, I thought we wore Lakeland out, particularly in their defensive backfield.  It was a good win in a what's become a good football series.  We probably lost starting outside linebacker Brett Hogen with knee injury tonight, so that's not good.  We're not going to get hung up about playing an NCAA I-AA team next week at Valparaiso—we did that a little bit last year before the Campbell game.  I'm sure they're good, but we're really playing against Carthage in that game."

Tailgater, thanks for the clarification.  With the game not yet completely out of reach, I was surprised to see Jones didn't throw the last TD and my first thought was injury.  You then mentioned the alternative I should have considered (trick play with WR or RB throwing the ball), but it was hard to keep everything in focus when watching live stats for 3 or 4 games at once.
