I started forgetting things once I got married back in June and found out we're expecting.

Congrats, jaybird.  Soon the CCIW board will have another die hard Blue Jay supporter!

Congrats Jaybird! Great news! My grandparents and family were pretty much involved with Wheaton especially with my Grandma being a nurse there. I was told that to go to Wheaton over and over. But I seemed to have "rebelled" and went with the Red and Black instead.... ;)

If I may be so intrusive, what is your grandparents last name?  Looking at the email address in your profile, I'm suspecting a "small world" incident.  Not sure why I haven't connected things sooner, particularly as your dad has mentioned he knows people from the Wheaton area that I know very well.

btw: My congrats to you JB.  Quite the year for you! A wife and new family... Awesome!

Their last name is Glassman. Wayne and Sue. I am the oldest grandson Ryan.

I grew up in the same church as your grandparents - Glen Ellyn Covenant Church.   When I was at Wheaton your grandmother was still working in the Health Center at Wheaton College.  Like I said, small world.

Wow, that is pretty neat. A very small world indeed. I will try and find you at the Wheaton v Carthage game this year. It is one of the few D3 games I am planning on attending this year since coaching has been taking up a lot of my Saturdays.

6 records were broke this weekend at Art Keller field. Since when did we become a passing team??  :D

• 33 first downs broke a team record of 31 set against North Park in 1971 and Art Keller Field marks of 30 set by Benedictine (Ill.) in 1991 and Lakeland in 1999

• 42 team pass completions broke both Carthage and Art Keller Field records of 39 set against Wheaton (Ill.) in 2008

• 491 team passing yards broke both Carthage and Art Keller Field records of 466 yards set against Hope College in 2008

• Evan Jones' 40 pass completions broke his own school record of 32 versus Campbell University in 2008 and broke an Art Keller record of 36 set by the Muskies' Kevin Fix in 1999

• Evan Jones' 446 passing yards broke his own Carthage and Art Keller records of 428 set against Hope in 2008

• Evan Jones' 468 total yards broke his own school and Art Keller Field mark of 434 yards set against Hope in 2008

I was married in the Glen Ellyn Covenant Church in 1982. Hope that makes me likable as well. I've made several trips to the Swedish Covenant Hospital near NP Campus this past couple of years with my Dad (S.O.T.'s grandpa) while he was successfully being treated for cancer. Took a few walks around campus and the new athletic facility. Really nice facility. My family are close friends with many of the NP alumni and financial donors for that project.

Keith has Hope pulling the upset over Wheaton this weekend.  That would be something!

Yes, the Helwig family has really benefited NPU with their donation to construct the new rec center, but a lot of other people contributed for that as well.

Nice interview with Pete Ittersagen at half time of the Wheaton game.

Still looking to catch on somewhere in the NFL.

Highlighted the speed of the game at the NFL level and the elevated level of QB skill.  He came away from training camp and his time with the Jaguars believing he can play at the next level.

Here's a link to the Ittersagen interview: http://athletics.wheaton.edu/custompages/sports_report/09-10/Pete_Ittersagen.MP3

6 records were broke this weekend at Art Keller field. Since when did we become a passing team??  :D

Yea Ryan, the ball was in the air way too much for my liking but it was a W.

My first tailgate as a non-player parent.  Was weird not to see Andy out on the field, but he looked good in his coach's uniform!  Although we didn't get to see him on the field either as he is up in the booth with Sedeska.  His mother did not have the "worried about injury" face on so she was much more relaxed too.

Also my first "trauma" as a tailgater when I ran the tip of my Cutco filet knife deep into my thumb!  What a rookie move. I probably could have used a couple stitches, but, with a little paper towel and duct tape (red of course!) I got the bleeding to stop.....

Hope to see you and your Dad and Mom at homecoming.

Hey Carthage Fan, do I need to school you again in tailgate safety procedures? You should always use a sanctioned bottle opener to pop your beer cap. Never use a knife, ;)

I wanted to be at the Carthage home opener against Lakeland, but ended up in Bloomington watching S.O.T. coach his 7th grade football team. That was pretty entertaining and his team looks real good. 4-0 at this point. They've scored 104 points and have given up 0 to their opponents. I'm heading out to Valpo today to get my first look at the 2009 Red Men. I'm looking forward to it. We will be at Homecoming next weekend with full tailgate gear. Looking forward to spending the day with you and our Carthage faithful!!

From this weeks ATN

"Also seeking feedback on Ten Best (top 10 of the past 10 seasons), moments to remember for the year-in-review and road trip suggestions for October and November (ATN especially likes non-Saturday afternoon kickoffs that can be paired with a game at a traditional time)."

What are the "top 10" for the cciw?  I was thinking one of the many great endings to the Wheaton/Augie rivalry.  It seems like most of the games this decade went down to the last play. Luckily, for my liking, Wheaton won most of the close ones.

Any other thoughts?

Carthage Fan

Tailgater, I am embarrassed that I sliced myself but I anticipate a full recovery for next week!

Carthage wins 34-24 over Valparaiso....sounded like a good game from what I heard in between cleaning my carpets!

Always nice to be 3-0 going into CCIW play.

See you Saturday!

Very ugly win by Wheaton.  Multiple missed xp's, uncharacteristic penalties, Hope ran all over Wheaton for much of the game, even offensive play calling was interesting throughout on offense.  Not very fun game to watch as a Wheaton fan.

matblake

I agree.  A win is sometimes a win, but I just didn't get some of the offensive calls.  It seemed to me that offensively that Wheaton was too greedy.  Too many attempts at the long ball.  Ultimately, the risk paid off, but I think this was a very poor showing.  I personally thought that Gingg is being underused.  Also, Hope really exposed the youth of the defense.  Wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy too much overpursuit.  Granted, Wheaton has been spoiled defensively as of late, so maybe I'm being a bit unfair.

Hope definitely had the Thunder on the ropes.  Those are some good running backs.  Kudos to the Dutchmen.
