Been many years since I posted but have followed faithfully because I do believe that one day there will be a CCIW team in the Stagg Bowl.
Had 2 play at Millikin and now one at NCC and I'm very excited with conference play starting. I have to say that i was shocked at the result of the NCC vs MU game. I know MU has a much better team than what we saw. I know for a fact there was a lot of jawing going on prior to the game by MU players and only hope they keep it to themseleves this week and ruin the "Green Weenies" homecoming game. They can do it if they stay focused.
As far as NCC goes have to say the Wienke and his D-staff have amazed me since both Wenger and Sulo went down is an understatement. At ONU when Wenger went down the air wnt completely out of NCC's sails. I'm sure they were thinking the same as I and that was how can we ever win without him? Well they've shown they can and last weeks move to put Schneiderbauer in with Hayes proved to be a good move and they're constantly tweaking and moving players around to give them the best chance to win.
As many of you stated NCC has done some great recruiting and have had many quility player fill in when needed.
Good luck this week to the Cards against NPU. DON'T take them for granted!

Awesome!  New posters with affiliations to a number of schools.  Welcome all.  Looking forward to any insights you all can provide.  Should be a very exciting CCIW race this year.

For those who will be on-line today tracking scores and key plays, remember there is a "CCIW in-game updates" board.  I'll looking forward to reviewing all the posts later tonight, as I will be at the Wheaton/Augie game this afternoon.  I'll post my thoughts on the game later tonight - I'll do my best to concentrate on the details of the game, but with a 20yr reunion and taking the kids with us there will be distractions.

Already have seen a bunch of teammates from 20 years ago.  Just like old times and as if it were just yesterday...

Wheaton D played pretty well and bottled up the Augie O for most of the game.  Offense is still shaky although I really enjoy watching Velling at tail.  He's just so elusive.  Not sure what is wrong with Gingg, but Velling is filling in very well.  Line play is really average so far.  Augie nose dominated the interior.  It looks like they aren't getting much drive off the line.  Running between the tackles is non-existant except for counters.  Nice win, but I'm hoping they get a little more consistant on offense.  I haven't seen many sustained drives this season.  The hurry-up, as in 2 minute drill and not the no-huddle, as well as trick plays seem to be working and that's been the deciding factor so far.

Well Congrats to my Redmen on a very un-orthodox way to win a game, I don't think they will win a game this year while controlling TOP.  I just got out of training so it was a good way to exit my day there, but a few things that I saw that were very positive.  The third down conversion rate for the Redmen was 8-15 which is 53% a very good number for Rucks, very bad for the Elmhurst defense, need to get off the field on third down.  Also Evan Jones, WOW...the kid never seems to amaze me with the ability he puts on the field day in and day out, I mean 34-48 for 475 yds 3 TD, those numbers are amazing!  One thing I did like about our defensive play was the our third down conversion rate 5-14 33% is feasible, but what it tells me is when it counts we are getting done.  Most impressive thing about this win was the last possesion ran 6:08 off the clock, which says we have the ability to sustain a drive, but is it on a consistent basis?  That is yet to be determined.
Congrats to the Big Blue for a win over the Titans, huge win and throws the a huge loop into the conference title matchups.  I haven't looked at the stats from Wheaton Augie yet but Congrats to the Thunder on a victory, but wonder what made them successful against what seems to be a decent Viking team.  Till later tonight after a few analysis of stats look forward to hearing from other peoples opinions on other games.
Suprising upset in the D1 area, with Arkansas beating Auburn, considering Alabama put the whooping stick on Arkansas last week.

Total yards:  IWU 415, Millikin 158
First downs:  IWU 27, Millikin 8
TOP:  IWU 34, Millikin 26

The scoreboard lies! :o :'(

The Titans belatedly gave it a go, winning the fourth quarter 13-2, but a blocked punt (yielding a FG) and a 73-yard 'pick six' (plus an INT at the Millikin 7) were just too much to overcome.

Wheaton had 462 yards of offense...not bad for being so called inconsistent

Yikes! The Carthage Web page headline says it all..."Carthage outlasts Elmhurst". Not sure what to say about each team's defense other than a lot of work needs to be done if either team expects to compete for a title. As I have said before, the Carthage offense can flat out score points. Evan Jones with another big game as ExperiencesOfaRedmen pointed out. On the day both offensive units had their way. Carthage had a total of 517yds while Elmhurst raked up 472yds. Elmhurst started a true freshmen at QB today, Joe Furco, and he looked pretty impressive as a field leader. Tough kid who played a lot of the second half on a bum wheel. I was surprised Elmhurst didn't sub him out as it was apparent that his mobility became limited and his passing lost the crisp velocity as he was not able to plant comfortably. I'll give the kid credit as he hung in their and lead his team up and down the field. A couple of freshmen RBs also looked real good for the Bluejays. Looks like they have a few pieces to their offense looking toward the future. Fairly balanced offensive attack for Elmhurst with 214yds rushing and 258yds passing. I think if I were the Elmhurst OC I would have continued to attack on the ground. Their ground game was very productive and I think they could have taken more time off the clock and kept the Carthage offense on the side-lines longer than they did.

Strange stat for the Carthage offense.....508 yds passing and only 9 yds rushing on 29 attempts. Yet they managed 5 rushing first downs when it counted. The rushing yds were the result of 67yds gained and 58yds lost. I have a real concern with the Red Men offensive line. They are leaking like a sieve. I don't know what solutions can be found at this point, but it's time for this unit to step it up and get their act together. I can't even imagine the potential as to how much more productive this offensive unit could be if the O-line could play more consistently. As in most games this year and as ExperiencesOfaRedmen also pointed out, the Red Men lost the TOP 26.5 to 33.5. When the ball is in the air as much as it is you don't burn much clock.

NCC up 76-0 on North Park early in the fourth quarter!

Fanthorpe 12-for-12 for 185 yards and three TDs
Sulo has another three TDs.

FishHack76

Actually, Fanthorpe has three TDs and rushed for another. I have my doubts NCC can keep up this scoring pace, but they are just wearing teams out since that Ohio Northern loss.

The Cardinals have outscored their opponents 258-18 in three-plus games.

North Park finally broke the shutout with 13:08 left ... 76-7.

That's 258-25.

Another NCC TD ... 83-7 with 2:37 left. (And that's a final) Wow. 83-7!

The Cardinals have 401 yards rushing and 594 total yards.

265-25

I thought NCC might put 60 on North Park. But it's a final. 83-7. Wow.

I'm surprised that the Wheaton-Augustana score was so close.

I'm shocked that Millikin beat IWU and the Carthege-Elmhurst score was so close.

NCC.2008

I was just looking at Fanthorpes QB rating it was a 312. 12 for 12 passing 3 tds and a rushing td. I wonder if there is any record of best passer rating ever in the CCIW for a single game?
