Crazy game at Carthage last night.  Deja vu allover again (IWU) in the first 3 minutes!  All in all you had everything, a blocked punt for a TD, a mishandled fumbled punt return, several INT's, fumbles on both sides, personal fouls, etc.  The Red Men could not run the ball, but, NCC D gave us 562 yards passing and we fought back.  With the aid of some key NCC penalties, a long interception return and a couple big pass plays, surprisingly we got back in this game.  The Cardinals took advantage of our turnovers and were able to score.  We could pull within a TD but could never tie it up.  Credit their kick return team who managed to give them great field position all night.  Their O tore our D apart with a good option play and could run up the middle on us as our our LB's and Safeties were not coming up filling the gaps.  Plus it was some of the worst Red Men tackling I have seen.  Several times we had contact at the first level but forgot we had arms and would not wrap up! Even with Sulo out (I sure hope he is OK) the #2 and #3 guys were very very good.  Fanthorpe made a couple mistakes and we did get some pressure on him but he still made some good throws.

Definitely not the Cardinal's best outing but, they allowed us to stay in the game.  A sharper Red Men performance and it may have been closer.   Good Luck to NCC.

Good post Carthage Man! I couldn't have said it better but I do have to say that there were a lot of missed tackles on both sides. I couldn't believe that Walsh threw the ball 84 times!!! I don't think I've ever seen that many passes or completions, for that matter, in a game. The real Redman came to play and didn't disappoint. NCC really needed a game like that. If Mr. Walsh and company bring it to the rest of the CCIW like they did last night they should go 4-0 and they still have Wheaton and Augie to play.

Kudo's to NCC for playing a full game with balance and poise. Great contributions from O, D and special teams! I can't believe that I'm saying the D gave up over 500+ yards and had a good game but i thought they did. I don't know how many rushing yards they gave up but it was minimal. O had 234 passing and close to 300 rushing yards. Special teams, other than the 3 missed PAT's (huge missed opportunities which was noticed later in the game) was fantastic! It could've been the real difference in the game.

From a fan's perspective there is nothing better than tailgating in WI for an evening game. The rain and wind held off and most of the Redman fans were wonderful except for the idiot heckling NCC fans from the Press Box (only field where it's on the visitors side) which shouldn't be allowed. Carthage has got to better monitor this situation.

Great game and it looks like next week's WC/NCC could be a barn burner! This one should keep the posting interesting this week.

Not sure who Mr. Walsh is, but Evan Jones was 47 for 84 on the day.

NCC gave up 581 total yds.  562 passing and (19 rushing yds on 10 attempts).

NCC had 234 yds passing and 337 rushing

Carthage will break ground next spring on a new multi-million dollar stadium project. The current visitor side will become the home team side as you wish. The building behind the visitor's stands will be incorporated into the new stadium. The current press box will be removed and press facilities will be built into the existing building. A new entrance will come through the building to stands which will cascade down from the building. All kinds of amenities are planned for the building interior such as restaurant, washroom facilities and such.

Sorry Tailgater and my apoligies to Mr. Jones now that I'm really awake and have my head out of my butt. I'm glad to hear about new stadium because it's my favorite CCIW campus to visit.

84 passes and 10 rushing attempts. That's just crazy. 84 passes used to be a whole season's passing attempts for many teams.

Looks like were in for a helluva game next week and it's homecoming for NCC also. Better get there early for a good seat!

Well, it wasn't pretty by any stretch of the imagination, but a win is a win and good for EC to snap their 2-game skid.  Penalties are an achilles heel on this team and they are of the "no brainer" variety.

Solid performance by the EC running back Williams who shows some promise in his future years at EC.  Hopefully our other back is not out too long.  Also hope the NPU player who broke his leg is able to heal quickly.  I did not see it happen initially and was shocked to see the stretcher come from the opposite end of the field.

NPU played very gutsy in the first half and Lee's Kickoff return was something special.  Unfortunately, form tackling was a problem for the Vikes.  Hey Greg,  Why did Shelby continue to do the QB keepers which led to 13 EC points.  And,  those two turnovers really shifted the momentum back to EC which did nothing to put the Vikings away early?  I was just somewhat surprised after the first fumble that they would do the exact same thing at nearly the same position on the field?

couple keys if EC is going to beat IWU.  #1) D-Line has to play better than they did against Cartahge in the second half, and against NPU all game.  They were not very noisy against the Park and if Ladd has all day,  there will be big time yardage all day.  #2 Penalties and turnovers. More to the point- Penalties.  Withouth looking at a stat sheet, I know we were over 100 yds in penalties  :o

NPU was getting a lot of push from the Vikings' interior linemen, but was unable to establish the outside run. The idea, therefore, was to take advantage of the holes in the middle by having Wood fake a handoff to the RB and then follow him into the hole, thereby gaining another blocker. The problem is that Wood has never run the ball much, and in a pile he's thus susceptible to having the ball stripped. The first time might've been viewed as a fluke; the second time made it obvious that this was a bad strategy, and it was not attempted again.

Wow!!! I had to collect my thoughts after that NCC/Carthage game Saturday night! From a fan perspective, what a game!!!!!

I really give the Carthage team a lot of credit for hanging tough. Things could have really gotten out of hand early. But, the Redmen never gave up. I take my hat off to them. The one thing that ruined the night for me though, was a play when Carthage #5 Chris Williams stuck NCC freshman running back #32 Nick Kukuc with a nice hit. Kukuc didn't get up and Williams walked away waving his arms in an incomplete pass motion (excited about laying him out for not much of a gain, I'm sure). I'll give Williams the benefit of the doubt that he didn't know Kukuc was down while he was walkin away waving his arms. However, it was uncalled for for him to pump his arms in the air trying to incite the Carthage fans to cheer while the trainers were on the field working on our running back. By then, he knew Kukuc was down. Pretty classless Chris!!!!

Jeff Koeneman is unbelievable. He was outstanding all night. He is the real deal. #84 Nick Merchut was pretty darn good too.  Mr. Jones throws the ball real well, but these two guys sure help him out a lot!!

It was mentioned in an earlier post that Carthage had a lot of penalties on the night. I didn't look at the stats, but while at the game, it seemed to me that Carthage was hardly penalized. I remember thinking that this team must be pretty good since they haven't had any flags thrown on them yet!! ;D For all that passing, if there were any holding penalties called on Carthage, there weren't many. I can't remember one. I was isolating on our D line most of the night. #97 Tim Janacek worked his tail off all night long trying to break free of a lot of hooking and holding on him. I can't believe none of it was called.

All in all, a very entertaining game!!

Hope Sulo is ok. Butch Rossberg, Pat Malek and Nick Kukuc did a FANTASTIC job running the ball in his absence!!

NOW, LET'S KEEP THE BELL!!!!!!!!!!!

cardinaldad

Wow! Looking at the stats, I see that 9 penalties were called against the Redmen. HMMMMMM! ::) I wouldn't have guessed that!
