Titan Q

IWU held North Park to -6 total offensive yards yesterday...anyone know the CCIW record for fewest yards allowed in a game?

Tailgater

Congratulations Titans! I'm hitching my cheering wagon to you guys heading into the playoffs. Make the CCIW proud!!

Carthage Fan

Good luck to the Titans take the CCIW to the Stagg bowl!

Tailgater, were you at Wheaton yesterday?

You said it tremendously better than I did and while it obviously doesn't define any of us (yourself included) entirely, your statement that..."whatever profession he (one) chooses, he (one) is always a college football player" says it all.  Thank you.  +k for you sir!

SOT had said in an earlier post that the Carthage/Wheaton game would be the game of interest this week in the CCIW. He sure got that right. What an exciting game on a beautiful Autumn day! Truly a back and forth battle that kept fans on both sides of the field on the edge of their seats. What a huge win for Carthage! Great positive way for them to end their season. 7-3 is a respectable record any year in any conference. I want to give special congrats to the Carthage defense. I've been critical of this unit most of the season. I don't know who those guys were out there in Carthage uniforms, but they came to play and they played hard and well. Best defensive performance of the season in my opinion. I hope this is something the RedMen can build on going into next season.

On the other side.....what a disappointing final 3 weeks of the season for Wheaton. They gotta be scratching their heads wondering what happened down the stretch. Watch out for the Thunder in 2010. Their young team will be back as strong as ever with some scores to settle. I'm already looking forward to the 2010 season. Man I gotta get a life  ::) ;)

I also want to congratulate Norm Eash and his Titans for a CCIW championship. They played the most consistent football this season and proved again that you win with Seniors. With the development of Brien Rooney it appears the Titans are poised tomake a little noise in this post season.

What happened to Wheaton?  Very surprising.

Sure was. You missed a classic Carthage Fan. Their up , their down, their up, their down, their up again with 38 seconds on the clock. At the end Wheaton was threatening again. Wheaton dropped a reverse option pass which would have put the ball inside the Carthage 10. Wow! dodged that bullet. Not only was the game exciting, but the weather was perfect and the tailgating was fantastic! I LOVE DIII football!!

Some interesting stats from the Wheaton/Carthage game. Of note.....first downs heavily favored by Carthage and the fact that Carthage actually ran the ball 32 times for 129 yards. Most rushes all season and most yards gained rushing. That surprises me. 40 for 56 passing for Evan Jones is a great day of work. Carthage won time of possession for the first time this season.

Quoting Coach Tim Rucks on the Nov. 14 Wheaton (Ill.) Game:  "It was a great effort on both sides of the ball.  I really believed we'd score on that final drive.  I didn't get worked up at all.  You give us the ball, and we're as good as anyone.  Our kids believed we'd score, too.  You get the ball to Jeff Koeneman and give him some space, and he's going to make some people miss.  He's a big-time player, and I told our guys this week that they had the pleasure of playing with one of the better football players ever to play at Carthage.  Tyler Funk is certainly an All-American in his own right.  I couldn't believe he could make another 52-yard field goal, only a week after setting that record.  Nothing is too short for us, and that comes with confidence.  This team turned out to be extremely resilient.  Our season was headed south, big time, and we came back strong at the end against some very good teams.  We developed some confidence that we'd been lacking.  Going into the off-season at 7-3 is huge for our program.  In our minds, we feel better about ourselves than we would have at 6-4, and we know we can beat the top teams in the CCIW."

Congratulations to IWU,  best of luck in the playoffs...

I am still holding my breath hoping NCC sneaks in.  (I know the replys will be not to hold my breath because we arent getting in)  but until it is posted, I am staying positive.

Yeah, it is unlikely, but no one saw Wheaton getting in last year either.

Keep the faith! :)

What happened to Wheaton?  Very surprising.

Not having seen Wheaton play all year until yesterday I'll only offer this comment as a one game observation. Because of their second consecutive loss last week, which cost Wheaton any shot at a CCIW title and most likely dashed their playoff hopes, I am sensing there was a total emotional let down amongst the rank of Thunder players. Wheaton supporters will have to fill in the blanks, but after observing Wheaton yesterday it is hard to envision that a few short weeks ago Wheaton was the third ranked team in the Nation. Yesterday's performance by Wheaton did not reflect that lofty rank. I in no way intend to diminish the strength of Wheaton's team. I also can't imagine that Coach Swider wouldn't have his team inspired to finish the season strong. Coming into the game yesterday I was anticipating that Wheaton would shread the Carthage defense in a high scoring affair similar to the NCC/Carthage game at 63-48

IWU to host Wabash.

No 2 loss teams make it.

Congrats to IWU.

And good luck next Saturday against Wabash.
