Congrats to the CCIW Champs today in a great football game.

Go up and make it a dogfight at UWW.

What a football game...wish I was there.

Why should you go for it on 4th down?

Game time yet ?
Well Mr. Scalcucci, you certainly have quite a bit to be proud of today!  Hope they can keep this up next week.  Gonna need everything we have against Whitewater.
Hail, Hail, the gang's all here, all out for Wesleyan!

Congrats to the IWU Titans . . . that was one heck of a game today.  I always like to see the Seniors go out on a high note.  Here's hoping it won't be another 26 years before our teams meet again on the field!  Best wishes on your game next week at Whitewater!
Long shall we sing thy praises, Old Wabash

I made the fortunate decision to drive down to bloomington today where Iwatched one of the better division 3 football games I have seen in a while. After no scoring in the 1st quarter IWU went 80 yds for a 7-0 lead. Wabash answered with a 65 TD drive of their own. IWU got 2 more scores (one on a short field and I thought it might be over as they led 21-7 and had been in control save 2 missed red zone opportunities. The LG's came right back with a score before half and it was a 21-14 halftime score. Incidentally I am pretty sure it was not an intentional onsides kick just before half. The bash kicker was trying to squib kick it and he hit the back of IWU guy's legs as he ran back to block and the ball just stopped.

The game was pretty clean ( 1 bash penalty to 5 IWU) and the biggest difference at 21-20 was IWU was 3-5 in the red zone and wabash was 3-3. Bash had the PAT blocked but converted the 2pt to get it back. Both teams played exceptionally well in the 2nd half. I don't think Hudson missed a throw in half 2 until the INT. Wabash receivers were very, very good. All of them. And huge kudis the bash Oline for giving Hudson forever to throw. I was surprised to see IWU blitz so much in the 2nd half as they aren't a great mtm cover team. They played more zone in the OT and that seemed to help. The int was a trick play for bash as they had their olineman lined up as a wr and he ran a bubble screen play but iwu wasn't fooled. I was also surprised to see wabash blitz 8 guys on the final play given it was 4th and 15 and the 1 thing they could not do was give up a TD!! But hindsight is 20-20 and overall it was a very well coached and well played game.

Congrats to bothe teams.

More on Studebaker from the Chiefs website:

Q: Will Vrabel be out?

HALEY: "We're listing him as doubtful."

Q: How did Studebaker do last week when he had to play more?

HALEY: "Like I said, Andy has been a bit of a bright spot for us. He's a guy that's been very good for us on special teams – definitely one of our top three special teamers week-in and week-out. He's somebody we really count on.

"When he got the opportunity in the [Oakland] game when Mike [Vrabel] went down I thought it was not perfect but, that being said, for his first real action it did not appear too big for him. He knew what to do. He did it. He made some plays. He was active. I think those are all good signs and he's had a good week of practice."

Q: He's from a small non-scholarship Division III school. Do you see any deer-in-the-headlights from him being in the game?

HALEY: "Again, he's a guy that in the off-season you wondered all those things. You can't look any better than Andy. I call him 'Venice Beach' because he likes to take his shirt off. He likes to work out; he likes to lift; he loves to run. He wins every run there is just about. So you find yourself saying, 'wow, is this going to translate to the football field.' You don't know until you see him actually playing. I would say he's been a bright spot. It's a big job but he's prepared for it; he's worked very hard and studies very well. He studies tape. He studies the game plan and I think he understands what we want him to do. I think he did a pretty good job in it of his time last week and now he'll get a chance to build on that."

Could not agree with you more USee. What a game.#29 on Wabash was everywhere and hit like a truck. IWU has to convert inside the redzone next week to be successful. I think this been a problem for them all year. congrats to both teams. Glad i made the trip.

I'd be interested to hear more about IWU's red zone problems.  The only game I was able to get to this year was the Wheaton game, and if the Titans could have run away with that game if they had converted early red zone chances.  The FG kicking seems to be an adventure - any comments from those with more eyewitness knowledge?

I don't agree with that at all. The difference was in the Wheaton game, both teams missed opportunities to seize control of the game in the red zone. Wheaton missed a short field goal, had a TD called back that resulted in a FG and threw an INT(great play by cummings). IWU missed a FG, thew an INT (tipped ball at the LOS) and got stopped on downs short of the sticks. So 2-5 resulted in TD's for Wheaton and 3-6 for IWU.

Yesterday, Wabash was 4-4 in the redzone in regulation. Their only miscue was in the the 2nd OT when Hudson threw the pick. IWU was 5-7 (two missed chances in the first half) missing a short field goal and throwing a pick (off a Tailback option pass) on their first drive of the game.

In neither game was IWU going to run away with it. Wabash showed great determination in responding IWU scoring drives. 2x they responded with TD's of their own and they also took a lead of their own in the second half

I kept thinking that both teams were very evenly matched throughout the game and it made for a great game with great weather in November. It was a defensive battle early on and then became a game of who was going to score last. Both teams should be proud for both fighting to the end in the one. I really enjoyed the "Wabash Always Fights" chant and it was a clear indication of the way this game went.

I was very impressed with both offensive lines as they allowed their QB's time to find open WR's again and again.

IWU at Whitewater next week. It's not Mount Union but close and there is a reason why we play the games out. Anything can happen. Clear eyes, full hearts, can't lose.

A special congrats to some of the guys from Carthage that I helped recruit in during my last recruiting days that made All-CCIW honors (man I am getting old):

1st Team - Jeff Koeneman WR
1st Team - Nick Merchut WR
1st Team - Terrance Clark OL
1st Team - Tyler Funk P/K
2nd Team - Alex Annes DL (I used to call him skinny, now he is 6-4 232lbs)
2nd Team - Evan Jones QB
2nd Team - Matt Favero OL

Congratulations to all of the All-CCIW award winners as well. A lot of hard work behind the scenes goes into making these teams throughout the entire year. Also credit the practice squads and coaching for pushing these individuals to be great.

Would someone be so kind as to clue me in about IWU.

Badgerwarhawk,

If you read back a few pages there are posts leading up to last weeks game that provide a pretty good synopsis. If you have specific questions fire away and there are a few folks on here who may be able to help.

Give him one more at the goal line and a 94 yard return.  Studebaker is having quite a game here today.
