Wow. That's big news. I am more than a bit shocked. Congratulations to Blaine and the Augie program for bringing the 2nd Gagliardi award to the CCIW. It is a great honor to recieve the most prestigious D3 award in addition to being the first Lineman EVER. That is a serious accomplishment.

Congrats on a HUGE award and honor, though I'm not as shocked over his winning.

Yes, he is a lineman and historically lineman don't win too many "Player of the Year" type awards.  But this award is a mix of on-field accomplishment, academics, and community service.  Based on the well documented accomplishments of Blaine over the past 3 years for the 2nd & 3rd categories, I figured he'd have a chance to win, especially as there wasn't a clear cut winner based on on-the-field accomplishments as in years past.

Let me add my congratulations to Mr Westermeyer on his selection. He sounds like a very deserving recipient.

Congrats to Blaine Westemeyer - I love seeing an offensive lineman recognized like this..... they do so much for the team and are rarely in the spotlight.   Tremendous!

Why should you go for it on 4th down?

If anyone is interested, you can watch the Division III Mexico game on Saturday, the 19th at noon.  Blaine Westermeyer, the Gagliardi Trophy winner, along with other CCIW players, are listed on the roster.  Go to www.globalfootball.com and click on the "WATCH THE GAME" link.  It will cost you $5.00 to watch.

Way to go Blaine!

As a former D Lineman I can say it's great to see a lineman get the award.

Nothing would happen on offense if it weren't for linemen.  it all starts up front.

Congratulations to Blaine. I love the fact the Gagliardi honors off the field accomplishments as well as on the field accomplishments. I have no doubt he is an amazing football player! It's great for D3 fans to know that our Gagliardi Trophy winners are great PEOPLE, too!

Congrats from D3 fans everywhere, Blaine! We are proud of you!

We did a sit-down interview with Blaine Westemeyer after the banquet the other night and posted it and more thoughts on the night on our blog.

was the change in offfense a "bad decision?"

We always get the Chiefs games here in Columbia, Mo...I just watched Andy Studebaker score a touchdown off a botched Cleveland punt attempt!

That's Awesome! Great to have a D3 defensive player find the end zone in the NFL

On another note I watched the Stagg yesterday and it was a well played game by two teams that are a cut above the rest of D3. I also saw Coach Eash on the Mt Union sideline. He was likely there as a part of the NCAA national committee entourage.

I also watched the Stagg Bowl...great game between two outstanding teams.

I go back to what I said a few weeks ago, after Whitewater dominated IWU...I just don't think it is possible for a CCIW team to get to that level.  Maybe I'm wrong, but that's my impression.

That said, we'll still continue to enjoy great CCIW title races year after year.
