Hi all,

been away for the board.  Mrs. Jaybird and I have been waiting for the little Jay to hatch  so life's duties call.

I have been reading the talk about NC and Wienke.  Does NC have a game overseas during the off season?  If so,  that would enable them to learn the new system prior to live game action.

I know Elmhurst is planning on going to Europe in the Spring.

Wishing you all the best on the arrival of a future Cardinal!!  ;D

I wasn't aware that Cardinals were also parasites on other specie's nests! ;D

I think you've got it all wrong. CARDINALS are the DOMINANT species ;D

But not the most intelligent of species...

QuoteFerociously territorial regarding other males, feeders near sliding glass doors or large windows can prove dangerous for Cardinals, which have been known to fly at and attack their own reflections, hurting or killing themselves. For this reason, naturalists suggest that residents protect Cardinals visiting their feeders by using thin metallic tape strips on their large glass windows and doors.

Must be the reason so many of them got hurt last season...

The Cards went to Switzerland last June.  They played in a town called Chur.  Supposedly the Swiss National Champs.  Unfortunately, that was during Coach Wienke's defense.  Looks like we just have spring ball and camp to work the kinks out of the defense.  If Ponx is as good at coachign defense as he is o-line... he'll have the boys ready to dominate by then.
Looks like four in a row!

hilarious!

The beloved will be fine without Wienke. When I read the first post about this news that said something bad was on the horizon I thought "Oh man, Thorne is gone", THAT would have been a thing. Wienke will land on his feet and the Cards will be no worse for wear without him.

Congrats, Jaybird!
You win! You always do!

Thank you.  Yes we are very excited. CardinalAlum-  Funny you say future Cardinal b/c when I talked to Coach Swider over the holidays,  he said, "Can't wait for your future arrival that I can recruit for the Thunder."  Obviously that was before we knew we were/are expecting a girl.  Certainly going to advise her to choose a sport and a CCIW/D3 school to attend.  I might put the blue tinted glasses on her for her first couple of years and drink (USee's so called) blue kool aid.  :o

That's probably a good idea, get her used to losing at first!   That way when she starts drinking the Cardinal kool aid she will appreciate winning a little more!!   ;) ;D

What if she turns out to be a bowler? The only CCIW school that sponsors women's bowling as a varsity sport is Elmhurst. Likewise, if she's interested in rowing, she's gonna have to be a Parker, since the only CCIW school that has women's rowing is NPU. And if she likes water polo, her CCIW choices are restricted to Carthage and Wheaton.

We have already had the "what if" talks/scenarios  liek what if Emma doesn't like football?  That is a big whoa!  Since this fall will by my 10th year covering EC and I am a big Bears Fan/Mrs. 79jay  is a big Packers fan.   Plus what if she doesn't like or winds up being allergic to dogs  as we have a big Germ Shepherd and black labrador.  Oh well.

On  a football related topic,  this will be the first time Elmhurst will travel to Iowa for a regular season game.

Hmmm - parents are a 'mixed marriage', eh?  Emma will probably be a Vikings fan!  Or (oh, the humanity! :o) a Lions fan. ;D

That's funny, because we also had the "what if" talks about our girls. The oldest one is a Bears fan who lives in Indiana and is dating a die hard Colts fan. The twins hate football and the youngest one would prefer to cheer for a team than watch the game. She actually brought a book to one of her brother's games this season. :)

C'mon Ypsi, everyone knows Lions fans haven't existed since the 50's. You have to actually have a team to have fans.   ;)

Actually, the Lions still have a surprisingly large fan base.  Most, however, are no longer willing to spend good money to watch them - their home games are nearly always blacked-out these days (in the last two seasons they've had something like 3 sellouts).

Oh, I know how many Lions fans there are, being a transplant Michigander myself.  And actually they are really good fans, which is surprising because of the long-suffering nature of Lions football.
