Not sure if it has been mentioned here or not, but Jordan Tassio is transferring from Western Illinois to North Central.

Tassio quarterbacked Naperville North to the 2007 state football championship. In doing so, he completed 60.1% of his passes for 1,550 yards and 18 touchdowns while rushing 117 times for 720 yards and 17 TDs. He was the DuPage Valley Conference Offensive Player of the Year, and was named by Rivals.com as Illinois Offensive Player of the Year. He will also play baseball for the Cardinals.

Mentioned it over a month ago! where you been?!?!? ::) ::)

As I recall, it was hinted at, but never confirmed.

As i recall, it was wait and see if he shows up in august

As I recall, I recall that as well. You are correct, sir!

The transfer was confirmed in an interview with Tassio's dad. Following the interview, the story, which included quotes from the dad, was reported in the Naperville Sun. While there is never a guarantee until a player shows up for the 1st day of practice, thats about as much confirmation as is possible at this point. Based not on rumor, but on direct quotes from the player's dad.

I do not deal in rumor!!! ;D

When I was looking at Christian colleges as a high school student in 1979, Wheaton was the one that the adults in my church kept pushing me to attend. And this was in an Evangelical Covenant church, mind you -- and the Covenant's one and only college is Wheaton's CCIW rival, North Park. And, unlike Mugsy (who is also the product of a Covie upbringing), I didn't live anywhere near Wheaton, IL, where people with direct and current ties to the college may influence a high-school student. I grew up in upstate New York, 700 miles away.

I let 'em all down and chose the Park instead. Never regretted it, either, not even for a moment. But, as in Gordon Mann's case, it shows you just how pervasive Wheaton's influence really is within the American evangelical subculture.

I've never been surprised at Wheaton's ability to recruit evangelical high-school students from Maine to California, athletes or not. There are hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of people across America who believe very strongly in that school.

Might one say that Wheaton College is the Notre Dame of the "American evangelical sub-culture"?   :D

I'm fine with that analogy, since I can't stand Notre Dame, either. :D

Interestingly, Jerry Falwell once said that his ambition for Liberty University was to make it the Notre Dame of evangelical schools. But school reputations aren't built overnight; Wheaton's been around since 1860, while Liberty is a Johnny-come-lately that was founded in 1971. And, unlike Wheaton, I've never heard anyone tout Liberty's academic rigor -- and I say this as someone who has had two cousins attend Liberty, with another cousin currently an undergraduate there.

Not to mention Germany... one player from Germany this year.  Papua New Guinea about 7-8 years ago.   :P

I don't think any point of origin for a CCIW football player is more exotic than Mali, the west African country that is home to the fabled city of Timbuktu. NPU had a Mali native on its roster a couple seasons ago. And, of course, two football players who just graduated from the Park last week, Anders Nygaard and Nils Lundgren, are natives of Norway. In fact, I believe that Lundgren is planning to play semi-pro football in Oslo when he returns home.

Greg, you made a bad basketball decision.  ;)

Yep. Just think of all the other productive things I could've been doing in March back in the Eighties rather than going to Final Fours. :D

Great news!

I know nothing about the Colts' defensive backfield - any idea of his chances?

ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst College football team is embarking on a week-long overseas trip to Germany and the Czech Republic from May 31 to June 8.

The trip is a unique blend of local sightseeing along with football activities. While exploring many historical places of interest in both Berlin and Prague, the Bluejays will also be practicing in preparation for a game against the Prague All-Stars on Saturday, June 5.

"I see the value of this trip as being two-fold," said Elmhurst head coach Tim Lester. "The 39 players making this trip get the benefit of 10 extra padded practices which is an added benefit in preparing for the upcoming season. The comradery of traveling together and playing a team overseas is also very exciting. Our players will be spending time together as a team that few other schools get to experience."

The trip is organized by Global Football, a Texas-based company which provides the opportunity for amateur athletes from different countries to compete against one another, while experiencing and learning first hand about each other's culture.

The Bluejays will spend their first days in Berlin visiting such historical sights as the Brandenburg Gate and the Checkpoint Charlie Museum while also taking the Third Reich Walking Tour.

Once in Prague, Elmhurst will have the opportunity to walk the medieval streets of Mala Strana, cross the Charles Bridge, and view Europe's oldest synagogue.

I think any chance you get to go see a foreign nation is great.  Makes you really appreciate some of the freedoms and lifestyle luxuries we have here.
Wish we had the chance to go abroad when I played.

Congrats to Pete.  Hope we can see him on Sundays like Andy.

Any day that I can make wisecracks about Wes Craven being a Wheaton grad is a good day. When it also gives me the chance to make fun of television talking heads and their ineptitude when it comes to basic research and any other necessary function of journalism ("You want me to look something up on Wikipedia? That's why I have interns working for me!"), it's a veritable humor bonanza. ;)

Now, now, you play nice with little Annie Curry.  Wheaton MA accepted her apology as 'heart-felt and sincere' (isn't that redundant?! ;)) and Wheaton IL thought it was pretty funny.  Poor Ann may not be out of the woods yet, however - in listing (in her apology) actual Wheaton MA grads, she spelled Lesley Stahl as Leslie Stahl! :D

Some days you should just go back to bed! ;D
