Speaking of debate, but on a completely unrelated topic, I sometimes really miss the old Illini-Badger Football Conference board.  Not so good on debate, very good on interesting put downs, screaming, and misspellings.

Until the NCAA playoff selection committee pays more attention to strength of schedule when picking Pool C teams, there will be a strong disincentive to schedule tough non-conference opponents.  Rumor around NCC is that the Cardinal athletics people were talking seriously about scheduling Mount Union in the near future, but their thinking may have changed after 9-1 Wash. & Jeff. was tapped for the final Pool C slot last year ahead of 8-2 Ohio Northern.

As a fan I'd love to see a NCC vs. MUC or NCC vs. UWW matchup, even if a non-conference loss to one of those DIII powers would destroy any chance of a Pool C bid.  But I can understand why people concerned about recruiting don't necessarily agree.

02 Warhawk-

I agree it hasn't stopped some schools but that doesn't mean its better. I would say the cciw has a better track record of getting a 2nd team in the playoffs but the WIAC obviously has done well once there. My concern is the cciw schedule is so weak this year it will affect pool C via the OWP and the OOWP. We have gotten by scheduling mildly difficult teams to prepare for the conf schedule. I don't think you will see cciw schools schedule games against top WIAC schools because they feel the public school has an unfair advantage over the private school. NCC didn't make it in last year becauae they played ohio northern. If they had scheduled aurora they would have made the post season. Ough to argue against that

We had that discussion with UWW people a couple of years ago when we played in the playoffs and it turned into a heated debate!!  Glad you went there this time as you are pretty good at backing up your facts!!   8-)

Please consider this post an "open invitation" to participate in the OAC Pick-Em's contest.    Over the years there have been quite a few CCIW guys that cross-over into the OAC page, some of which have matched wits in the pick-ems.

We had 63 participants in our 2009 contest with about half of them from outside of the OAC page.  If anyone is interested, the spreads for Week 1 have been posted.

Please note however the season actually opens on Thursday, September 2nd so I'll need your picks by kick-off on Thursday.

THANKS

I find easily offended people rather offensive!

Statistics are like bikinis; what they reveal is interesting, what they hide is essential.

Yesterday, I watched part of the scrimmage between NCC and Aurora. Some observations:

Spencer Stanek showed considerable improvement from last year. He looked like a leader, and made good decisions. His missed a few reads but played better than I saw from him last season.

The running game was solid. It looks like Nick Hicks will play a prominent role.

On defense, #40 looked good. No signs that he was ever injured.

Jordan Tassio did not wear a red jersey, and played some on defense.

Did anyone volunteer to take over the CCIW Pickem contest this year in light of Mugsy's decision to take this year off? Hoping someone is willing to take it one with the opening games ont horizon.

So Tassio isn't even lining up on offense?

Elmhurst hosts Lakeland 7pm tonight at Langhorst.

Who's #40?   :P  If he can stay healthy that is a huge lift for the NC defense.

Hey, you better start making up some new screen names to get Elmhurst some more votes to go with yours above!!   :P ;D

I heard he had a pulled hamstring.

Could be wrong but, I don't think "played some on defense" necessarily means he isn't lining up on offense at all.   :-\

Andy Studebaker had 2 sacks and a hurry in the 1st half last night vs the Eagles 1st team offense. He looked really impressive and Chiefs nation is rallying around his eneregy and personality in a big way. What I thought was more impressive is when rookie LB Cameron Sheffield suffered an apparent neck injury, They showed the entire Chiefs team kneeling on the field in prayer led by Andy! This is a tradition Wheaton players have done every game for an injured player and its great to see Studie bring it to the NFL.

Lot's of praise and high expectations for Andy in KC this year. He is running with the 1st team nickel defense with Vrabel on the inside and Andy as a rush LB. He is poised to have a breakout year.

Mr. Ypsi

If I'm recalling correctly, the kicking game was the bane of Titan fans' existence last year - fgs were hopeless, and even pats were dicey.  Anyone have word on whether things look better this season?
