Hello everyone,

I have been away from posting on here for about 3 years (busy getting married, buying a house, ect.). Now I am back but I find myself way out of the loop with all things CCIW. I last played for Carthage is 2004 and the last a heard about Carthage is they are throwing the ball all over the field which is weird for me since I am used to pounding the rock 50 to 60 times a game back in the day.

I also looked at the Top 25 in D-III and see that North Central seems to be the powerhouse in the CCIW. What happened to Wheaton and Augie? Those were the top 2 about 5 years ago. Now I see Weslyan is back up there in the top tier of the conference but they were way down back when I played. Is North Park still is the bottom? Where do my REDMAN stand?

Sorry about all the questions but I would want to get back to my roots and I hope to contribute to this board. Thanks and GO REDMAN!!!
It's REDMEN not RED MEN

Thanks Mugsy for running the Pickem again. Those of us not capable of taking over your duties really appreciate the effort.

Congratulations on your milestones and changes.  I can relate as my wife and I got married, bought/sold a home, and had our first born all within a short period.

NC has slowly been rising to the top for the past 5 years. Their success should not be shocking anymore because since they have implemented John Thorne at the helm,  their wins have been more numerous.

Wheaton and Augie have not gone away.  Most recently, they just have fallen short to NC.
IWU (at least for me) was a shocker last year and came out of nowhere.  I knew they were going to be strong on defense, but offensively  they were a question mark.  Give them credit, they played extremely well down the stretch and were able to execute at the right time.

IWU still the Rodney Dangerfield of the CCIW as Clyde Hughes misstates their mascot in his around the Region preview of top 10 games.  :)
"Wheaton is picked to finish ahead of Illinois Wesleyan in the CCIW standings. If the Spartans expect to defend its share of the title, they will have to beat Wheaton on the road, never an easy test for Thunder opponents."

again, I would be careful bragging about any CCIW non conference record against the schedule's we have/are playing. These teams are not very good and are not at all indicative of the quality of teams we will face during the conference as well as the playoffs.

It's my strong opinion we should be scheduling tougher opponents. CCIW coaches have avoided that for the most part because of the rigors of a CCIW slate. They have been rewarded by getting a Pool C bid several times over the past 10 years. I know the strategy of many of the coaches of the top teams has been to schedule 1 or 2 medium/tough games (see platteville, Bethel, Valpo, Hope, Simpson, UWEC, etc) and 1 patsy (take your pick). Now I think many of these games are tougher to find (cheap travel, mildly tough opponent, open date) so the choices are becoming binary. Pick the patsy's or go higher. I would really like to see the CCIW take on some higher rated opponents. I think it raises the bar for everyone. It's just a tough argument when you make the playoffs going 8-2/9-1 most years. But, as I mentioned previously, this is going to come back and bite us (maybe this year).

Redmenfan, for $10 bucks you can register for Kickoff on the front page and read all you want about each team in the conference as well as where our conference stands nationally. you also get previews on every Carthage opponent. Best value you can find short of a Wheaton education!

See my post to you over on the OAC board.

Oops!  What an idiot I am! ;D  See my post to you over on the HCAC board (not the OAC board as I erroneously previously mentioned).

Decent win.  Greenville supposed to be top of the UMAC.  Should help with Augie's OWP if Greenville finishes as expected.

Big loss for the defense with 1st Team All-CCIW DE Ryan Jenkins out for the season.

devildog29

Well it's finally gameday folks!  One of the best days of the year.  Haven't seen it mentioned here yet, but unfortunately, the Titans have lost 1st Team all-CCIW Sr. DE Ryan Jenkins for the year to a broken leg.  Not the kind of break (seriously, no pun intended) we needed with so many questions coming into this season already.  Think I might head out to the Trinity - Howard Payne game tonight here in San Antonio.  Perhaps I'll see something Espy worthy.
Hail, Hail, the gang's all here, all out for Wesleyan!
