Frequently read during the season, but never posted...just an old Wheaton Crusader!...here we go!  :)  Any news on a Wheaton scrimmage this past weekend?  Was it the usual Wabash warmup?  Anyone hear what happened to Charlie Velling (RB) and Nic O'Neal (DL) from last year?  Odd that two major contributors to a Wheaton football team, upperclassmen at that, don't return...slightly reminiscent of 1988?  That's just not Wheatonesque!

Nitzer-

Welcome to the board. There is a summary of the scrimmage on the ncac page by bb#16. Velling left school and isn't playing anywhere. Don't know about oneal. Albion gave up almost 300 ids rushing to Butler last weekend. I wonder what Rocky will do?

Wow... Nitz has joined the group.  Now we'll get some more in-depth perspective from the offensive side of the ball.  Good to see you here.

It is also important to remember that the Top 25 poll does not have any affect (effect?) on the selections for the playoffs.  Look here to see how the teams in the playoffs are picked: http://www.d3football.com/faq.php?answer&category=Playoffs&id=4

Since you're asking, it's effect. ;)

I knew I would get that wrong.  Knew I could count on Sager to set me straight.

Old Nuthin...was a pleasant surprise accidently running into you at the game last weekend...good luck to your sons and greet your lovely wife for me...will look for you (hat)on 9-25...Be Well

thanks bash, the little guy made weight, but lost the game. he had a couple of sacks and his team fought back from a 22-0 deficit only to lose 30-18. It was along weekend and really had to digest what I saw on Saturday. Dion Wilson is a horse, 5 tds and 278 rushing is impressive, but the sledding will be harder in the conference season. Millikin QB did not look impressive at all, but their o-line certainly did. I think when they got up 28-7 everyone thought it was over and eased off the gas pedal.  they have several new players in the secondary, and it showed as the game went on, missed assignments and on one play they were grossly mis-aligned. that is to be expected in your first game i think. i know the coaches will fix that. Their secondary has some very impressive athletes and they were not happy with their performance. It would be easy to brag that they held IC to minus rushing yards, but this is IC after all. They will face a tough test next week against a talented hope team that gave Wheaton a tough time last year. Definitely the best sub 500 team i ever saw. Good luck to you and your son, except on the 25th.
I think you will have a better test of your offensive strength IE(Wilson) with Greenville on the 25th...Will see you then...

Guess I should have used a better nom de plume, eh Mugsy?  Way too obvious.  Still, have wondered for years who USee could be...have judged he must have been a defensive player, perhaps a linebacker, from the early to mid 90s???  Scratching my head on why Charlie Velling doesn't return...grades?  Never connected with the team?  Searching for life perspective?  Just waiting for Rocky to be gone to have 2 years as feature RB?  Or just never really a believer in Swider fooball?
Agree USee--looking forward to what Rocky AND THE REST OF THE O-LINE, OTHER BLOCKERS, ETC. can do this week and the next 9+ with the ground game!  CCIW game of the week definitely goes to Augie vs. Central...go Vikes!  Isn't it great to have a few few weeks of brotherhood, cheer for each other, before the meat of the season REALLY starts!

Help please!
I post regularly on the basketball board, so I'm not as familiar with how things work on the football side. Accordingly, I'm wondering if someone can educate me on something.

North Central was ranked 14, played, and won 41-7. However, they dropped 2 places in the new poll. How does this happen when not only did they win by 35 points, but most, if not all, of the other winners rose in the rankings? Is this usual?

I'm especially confused over the fact that 4 teams didn't even play and by doing so actually went up in the new poll. This seems ridiculous.

As such, any help anyone can give me as to how the poll works/possible reasoning on this is appreciated.
Thanks!

AndOne,

It appears you are not alone in your rankings bewilderment. This week's Around the Midwest features Evan Jones from Carthage and AndOne!

Why North Park never* threw the ball to 6'4" WR Hall who was lined up all day against a 5'7" CB with the safety not cheating absolutely befuddled me.  I think North Park receivers dropped more balls than were completed.  Also, in obvious passing downs, please go to the shotgun as the short QB needs every nanosecond to throw over the much taller D-Linemen.

*I arrived when NP had the lead, 7-0.  So they could have thrown to Hall during the missed time.

I am really thinking about going to the Carthage homecoming game. Is anyone is here thinking about going? I haven't been to a homecoming game up in Kenosha since 2005 which was the year after I last played for the REDMEN!

Change of plans!  We were able to get some extra help to put in our new flooring, but they could only do it tomorrow.  Ugh! Looks like the Albion game is out for me and Mrs. matblake.  Looks like Olivet is the next option.   See ya there, Mugsy  ;)
