CCIW Players of the Week posted:

QuoteElmhurst's Scottie Williams, North Park's Nick Pantaleo and Wheaton's Scott Roche were named the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Football Players of the Week Tuesday.

Williams, a sophomore running back from Woodridge, Ill., and Downers Grove South High School, tallied over 220 total yards and scored three touchdowns while leading Elmhurst to a 37-7 win over Olivet on Saturday. Williams rushed 16 times for 192 yards and three touchdowns, including a 54-yard touchdown run, as well as a pair of one-yard runs. He also caught three passes for a team-leading 32 yards. Williams rushed for more yards on 16 carries than Olivet totaled for the entire game (54 plays for 115 yards). He is a Marketing major.

Pantaleo, a senior defensive back from Hanover Park, Ill., and Hoffman Estates High School, had a career day in North Park's 31-20 comeback victory over visiting Benedictine on Saturday. Pantaleo recorded a career-high 14 tackles, including seven solo, and returned an interception late in the fourth quarter for a 99-yard touchdown score. His touchdown return became the longest in school history as it broke the 50-year old record of 93 yards held by Gene Boba against Benedictine in 1960. Pantaleo is a Physical Therapy/Athletic Training major.

Roche, a junior placekicker from Evergreen, Colo., and Faith Christian High School, was a key factor in Wheaton's 17-6 victory at Albion on Saturday. Under wet and muddy field conditions, Roche kicked three field goals for the Thunder. He kicked a 32-yarder late in the second quarter to give the Thunder a 5-3 halftime lead. He booted a pair of fourth quarter kicks (22 and 31 yards) to secure the win for the guests. He is a Geology and Business & Economics major.

P.S. I am sure all of you saw the conclusion to the Bears/Lions game.  I am a die hard Bears fan and we shoudl have lost that game.  That rule stinks.  IMO,  Calvin Johnson had the ball, beat his corner and the rule stole a W for Detroit.

Agreed...the officials made the correct call, but the rule needs to be changed.
It is hard for me to imagine that Johnson was doing anything but thinking about celebrating as the play finished which ended up costing him on this play.  He was excited..it was a great play

Unfortunately the Lions were victimized by the once obscure you-have-to-control-the ball-til-your-next-trip-to-the-mens-room rule. Way too many unemployed lawyers out there for this to happen.

1st half of Chiefs game tonight, Andy Studebaker misses block on Chargers punter who makes a TD saving tackle.  Ouch!  He was clearly upset.

Later in same half, Andy buries same punter on a 92 yard punt return.

Rookie TE Tony Moeaki has his first career TD reception (2 yarder).  Tony played high school ball at Wheaton Warrenville South.

its great when players stay for 4 years and make plays as seniors.  Hopefully rubs off on some of NPU's young guys and encourages them to stick around.

It doesn't look like this has been posted but great article on Evan Jones (QB-Carthage) coming from a wishbone/option high school team that went 0-9 his senior year: http://www.d3football.com/columns/around-the-region/midwest/2010/Carthage+walk-on+makes+good

Yes, this is a great story and I can relate very well to this article of Evan Jones. I, myself can from a high school team that was 0-9 my senior year. I didn't have many offers from schools but Carthage gave me a shot. Must be great scouting on the part of Coach Rucks' staff.

It also mentions that freshman T.J. Stinde, an IHSA record-setting running back, has taken over kick return duties.

Are either of Augie's two injured RBs going to play this weekend? To put things in perspective neither of Augie's top two RBs (Nate Pena and Robert Wood) played against Central last Saturday due to injuries they incurred in the Greenvile game. No doubt Augie would have lost anyway, but the Vikings need those to guys back on the field asap, hopefully for sure by the start of the conference games. I'm sure Dan has asn injury update on Pena and Wood.

Nothing better than some guaranteed money from the NFL, hopefully he got a nice front end contract.
