Carthage completes a very impressive non-conference schedule 3-0. A big win to open up against Franklin who may find themselves nationally ranked by seasons end. A tough battle and over-time win over Lakeland that has become an annual nail bitter. A solid performance today, as was expected against Concordia, on both sides of the ball. Defense played solid with 5 take-aways and limited Concordia to 3 first downs (one by penalty) and holding the Falcons to 0-14 on third down conversions. Defense gave up only 85 total yards on the day. Evan Jones throws 21-38, 428 yards and 4 Tds (could have been 6 TDs) in only 2 1/2 qtrs. Carthage racked up 590 total offensive yards. Penalties might be the big issue going into conference play. 14 penalties today will hurt you in CCIW play. Particularly against NCC. The Red Men have 2 weeks to prepare for a big conference opener down in Naperville. That could be the game of the week in the CCIW. Both teams look like they can score a lot of points. The Red Men are playing with a lot of confidence, they've been able to get a lot of playing time for the reserves and they are relatively healthy coming off the non-conference schedule. The bye week could help them or hurt them. Not sure how to gauge that. When you're playing well you want to keep on playing, but having 2 weeks to prepare for Nationally ranked NCC might be extremely helpful. Can't wait for the CCIW opener!!

Although they are nationally ranked and 3-0, is anyone else getting as concerned as I am about the Titans?

They soundly beat a very bad Alma team (but still yielded 2 TDs), but barely beat sub-par (i.e., 7th at best in the CCIW) teams from Hope and Aurora.  Unlike last year, PATs have become routine (making 10 of 11), but have still not even attempted a FG.  (I doubt there has never been an occasion calling for a FG, so I assume Eash still has little confidence in his kicking game.)

Perhaps I just have a (green) blood-clot on the brain, but I fear they may be much closer to Kickoff's #63 than to their current ranking of #24.  (I'm sure this post will bring great joy to the Norm-haters on the board, but can anyone lift my spirits?! :D)

Final in Michigan

NCC 52 Olivet 9

NCC w 521 yds offense to 153 for Olivet. Spencer Stanek threw 2 INT's in the first quarter and was pulled for Brad Crackel, who wen 13-17 for 191 yds and 3 td's. Jordan Tassio ran for 105 yds on 19 attempts. Wenger with 9 tackles including a sack and 2 tackle for loss.

Is that Brad Crackel from Oswego East High School? If it is that's awesome. I've wondered if he went on to play anywhere. He was a 3 year starting QB at Oswego East.

Tailgater, yes he is. He transferred from Western Michigan I believe last year. Here is his bio if you are interested: http://northcentralcardinals.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=3295&path=football. Always great to see another Oswego player out there in the CCIW.

He looked very impressive today.  Strong arm and accurate passer.

After watching today's game, I will say that IWU is a good team with great discipline. I think you may be underestimating the AU team. AU is no where near as bad as many thought they would be. I won't say that IWU are going to run the table in the CCIW, but they deserve their rank. AU is much better then anyone thought and may surprise in the NAC

Thanks. I'll be looking for Brad in 2 weeks in the CCIW opener against Carthage.

NPU 70, MacMurray 7, NPU with a school record 525 yards rushing, 7 passing (probably tied the school record for fewest completions with 1, set versus carthage in 1967)
I am determined to be wise, but this was beyond me.

The couple of other amazing stats for NPU today:

16, count-em'... 16 different ball carriers.
Average of 7.5 yards per carry.

Three picks by Cicero Porter, one for a 97-yard TD.  We couldn't tell if the three interceptions was a new school record.

Another decent win for Wheaton, though some items to work on.

UW-Platteville out gains Wheaton 412-389, though UW-P had 88 plays to Wheaton's 65.

Coming into the season, Wheaton's secondary was viewed as the strength of the defense, but gave up 301 yards passing tonight.  Though on 56 pass attempts and with 44% completion.

Even though Wheaton outscores UW-P 35-7 in the second half, UW-P held a 21:36 to 8:24 time of possession advantage in the second half.  Helps to have a 78 yard INT return for TD, 80 punt return for a TD and another INT return to the 4 yard line.

3 more FG's for Roche, including another 40 yarder.

One area of concern is punting - only 26.3 yards per punt. Yikes.

Mugsy,

Caught your NathCon post.  Since I am the Titan supporter you mentioned, you are NOT relieving my angst! :(

If you're not careful, I may have to pick Wheaton over IWU in a couple of weeks - a clear sign of doom for your team! ;D
