I think it is going to take more than 7 points a game by NCC's offense to win every CCIW game. While I think the NCC defense is capable of leading them to a CCIW title and has the potential to lead them deep into the playoffs, I am not ready to crown them yet. Let's see what they do against a high octane offense.

They ARE, who we thought they are.

One of the best post-game rants of all time.

The best part about that rant is that Green's team just lost.  They shouldn't have, but they still lost.

Never, ever, ever gets old.

And I see that you've trotted out several other HOF-quality press conference clips. Nice.

I didnt say win every cciw game, i said to be in most games, and I should have specified OFFENSIVE touchdown.  I am also anticipating some Special teams touchdowns, a defensive touchdown here and there and a solid kicking game.

Don't get me wrong, I think this offense is much better than that and Coach Jeff Thorne has done a great job in plugging new players in this system every year to produce a High Powered Offense that ranks tops in the conference and near the top in the nation.  This is one of the best offensive lines we have had in a while at NC.    The point I was trying to make was how good I think North Centrals defense is.

Great point. The offense should get better each week. The defense needs to stay strong. Lots of guys getting in, should help them stay fresh. The only part of the defense that is suspect is the secondary. They could lose a conference game, but I hope the sting of last year keeps them focused.

I'm nervous about the NCC/Carthage matchup.  NCC's pass defense hasn't been tested yet this year, and pass defense has been our Achilles heel in the past.  Carthage gained 500+ yds in the air and put 48 points on the board in last year's match (albeit against an NCC defense sans Wenger & Sulo).  Carthage didn't even try to run, yet still had a chance to win the game in the 4th quarter because NCC couldn't stop Evan Jones.  Is this year's D sufficiently better than last year's, or is Carthage's O sufficiently worse?

NCF

This year's defense is better and much faster, however they will be challenged by Carthage's passing game.

Carthage sure can pass the ball but can their defense stop a "real" offrense in NCC? Should be a high scoring game again!
It's REDMEN not RED MEN

Normally I hold back from predictions on games. As everyone knows anything can happen in a football game. Just ask Kansas City, Pittsburgh and Chicago. Who'd figure them as the undefeated in the NFL. My interest is of coarse is with the NCC/Carthage game Saturday evening. I am going out on a limb and appear to be the only one to pick Carthage in the pick-em pool this week so far, but of coarse with only 1 confidence point.

I have seen both teams in action on the field and both defeated good opponents. Carthage beat a good Franklin program in week one. Carthage played mediocre offensively and their defense played a respectable bend, but don't break style defense. The offense has built on their experience each week and has increased their output both passing and rushing. The defense has 9 returning starters and has continued to improve each week. Overall team speed on the D is very good and they swarm to the ball like teams I've grown used to seeing. They have had two weeks to prepare for NCC. They are well rested, heeled up and hungry to play ball and hit someone other than their scout teams.

NCC beat a solid UWEC team in their 3rd game. The offense was not terribly impressive, by which I mean....does not stand out from any other CCIW team. Crackel is still in a learning mode at QB and is still an unknown. One thing for certain, he won't make a mistake that might hurt you as he does play smart. The running backs appear average. Crackel's number 1 target against UWEC was a 5'10" WR. If that remains consistent I don't see Carthage having trouble matching up physically against him. The offensive line is the strong point for NCC's offense. If they give Crackel sufficient time to set and look around that could hurt Carthage. Carthage needs to put pressure on Crackel and force him to move out of the pocket. He didn't appear to have great mobility. NCC's defense is good....really good. This will be a challenge for the Carthage O-line. Jones will be set in shot-gun all day. He'll need to make quick decessions and get rid of the ball fast. If NCC has a hard push at the line as they did against UWEC they might be able to be beat up the middle with screens or draws, but then there's Wenger to deal with.

Hard to say how this will turn out if both teams play up to their potential. Who knows how penalties, turn-overs, injuries and suspect CCIW officiating might dictate the outcome of the game. Needless to say it'll be worth the price of admission to watch this game.

That 5'10" receiver was 2nd team All Conference in 2008 and 1st team in 2009. Don't dismiss him too quickly. You also need to account for the TEs who are 6'3" 240 and 6'7" 271.

The X-factor is Coach Ponx, who has a completely different defensive philosophy than Coach Weinke. I expect the total points to be significantly than the 2009 game.

Yeah I've seen this mentioned before.  Their overall home record in this decade is among CFB's best...44-4 or close to it....wow McCully is a tough place to win

And to think Carthage has won at McCully on their last 2 visits. Who'd have thought that? I'm a little worried about the Red Men visit this season. I'm sure the Thunder/Crusaders will use this stat as bulletin board material.

Yep. The 5 losses are
Millikin, Augie, NCC and Carthage twice

All conference or not doesn't take away from physical match-up to a defender. When you win conference titles a couple years running you get the opportunity to nominate a lot of players for conference recognition. I'm certain he is well deserving, just saying he's not gonna out-jump too many corners and safeties for inaccurate passes. Where were the TEs against UWEC? Coaches coach. Players play. We'll soon see how the players play which is the true deciding factor in the outcome of a game.
