Card Alum----

I don't know any more enthusiastic NCC football booster than yourself. You heard the "(insert player's name) you suck" and the "(insert player's name) F you." not to mention all the other stuff that was just as bad.

This is language YOU wouldn't use, especially not in front of your wife and kids, so why are you defending these jerks?  ???

Its no secret that I back North Central. Especially on the basketball side, some posters no doubt think I am sometimes, lets say, overzealous in my praise/support of the Cardinals.
To this end, many of you will likely be surprised at this post. However, I feel compelled to comment. I realize its not very conventional to call out fellow supporters of the same team you root for. But, in this instance, I think its necessary. Also while greatly overstepping my bounds, I would like to offer an apology to the Carthage football team.
You see, the problem I'm referring to was the behavior of some North Central "fans"
during the Cardinal-Red Men football game a couple of weeks ago. Specifically 3 idiots in particular. I don't know who these guys are--they're quite possibly ex NCC footballers. They were occupants of the North end zone during the game. This is territory frequented by many former players during NCC football games, the vast majority of who are ardent NCC backers and also great fans and gentlemen.  Judging from their reactions, I'd say many of them were shocked and irritated to say the least over the behavior by the 3 individuals in question. I noticed many of the other fans vacated the area.
Specifically, at one point NCC was on about the Carthage 3 or 4 yard line. The CC backers and DBs were lined up on the goal line and in the north end zone just a few feet in front of the jackasses in question. These "fans" were hurling insults of a very personal nature at the CC defenders. It was loud, and it was steady over the course of several minutes. I won't repeat what was said here. Suffice it to say they crossed the line in terms of the language they used and the personal nature of said language.
I don't know the names of the 3 jokers, but can describe them:
1. Blue Michigan jacket with "Michigan" in yellow letters across the back.
2. Black shirt with football laces on the front and a tan hat worn backwards.
3. Shiny black Nike jacket with a Cubs hat worn backwards.

I hope the NCC "security" staff keeps an eye out for these guys in the remaining games and kicks their butts out if there is any such additional insanity.
Again, one NCC fan's apologies to the Red Men.

AO,

While some of this stuff does cross the line sometimes, it isn't much different at other schools.  Have you ever been to a game at IWU, Carthage, Augie, Millikin?  It isn't a whole lot different.  I have been to basketball games as well and much of the same goes on there.  The North Park basketball faithful will give you an earful any time you take a trip down there as you well know.  All I'm saying is you can't single out any of the schools for the same things that go on everywhere else!  Go Cards!!

The Carlson Crazies take great pride in their ability to ride an opposing player like a show pony, but if any of them ever yelled "So-And-So, f&%* you!" he'd be tossed out of the North Park gym so fast his head would spin. NPU students aren't angels, but dropping the F-bomb at a basketball game is one line that they don't cross.

Since when is it ok to allow abusive behavior just because it happens elsewhere? Why can't you single out your own school? I don't think this is acceptable behavior and certainly not because "...it isn't any different than other schools". If this happens it should not be tolerated in my opinion and kudos for AndOne for singling these guys out. I agree with him and hope NCC (and anywhere else this happens) continues to enforce the rules. There isn't any excuse for  any kind of abusive behavior.

Abusive is so far an over the top exaggeration!  I forgot we are in a state of panic across the country about bullying!  I was there also and am talking about the F bombs when I referred to "crossing the line".

Sounds like I am in for a fun game this week  ::)

Jaybird,

Was surprised to see your pick ems for this week.  Have you flown the coop?  You didn't pick your team to win!

I almost felt bad for other basketball teams when the visited Carthage to play but I felt worse for the kids that were in the stands near us students. The students sometimes went overboard with the language and taunting but I don't think it ever became abusive.

As far as football goes I can never remember any taunting from opposing teams when visiting from the fans. Either I didn't pay attention or my mind was on the game.

Supposedly, only QB Club members, their families, and their guests have access to the end zone tent. If you have observed unsportsmanlike behavior by fans in the end zone, this reflects poorly on the NCC QB Club. In addition to the discussion here, you should make sure that the (AD) Jim Miller, (Director of Alumni Relations) Adam Aldrich, and (VP) Rick Spencer are aware of this.

I always feel bad for children who get exposed to tasteless collegiate rowdiness, but when Carthage plays Wheaton at Tarble Arena and the Red Men go on a run, and the Carthage student section chants, "Where's your God now? Where's your God now?" at the Wheaton players, the person for whom I feel bad is the Carthage College chaplain. :D

Lest anyone think that I'm unduly picking on Carthage, I should note that at last Saturday night's Wheaton @ North Park soccer match at Holmgren Athletic Complex the NPU student section started the rather self-congratulatory chant, "We love Jesus, yes, we do! We love Jesus, how about you?" and laughed when the Wheaton fans in the visitors section failed to take the bait.

College-kid immaturity comes in all flavors ... including religious ones. ;)

"College-kid immaturity" does indeed "come in all flavors." Some of the worst examples are the "religious ones." [Kind of like the Thirty Years' War, I think.]

The north end zone area is also open to all alumni, including jerks and poor sportsmen.

Couldn't make the trip to Rock Island, but it sounds like our Cards are playing "lights out", especially on D. I was very pleasantly surpised how they handled Evans and the Carthage O. I'm a believer now!! Keep it up!! No let down now Cards!! Take it to Millikin!

Should be a great day to watch CCIW football today. Good luck to all of you in your games today (except Augie  ;)) Have a fun time tailgating, supporting your teams and a safe drive to and from your respective game sights. I'll be real interested to see how the Augie/Carthage game goes this evening. A new look Augie offense for me will be interesting to see in action. I've become accustomed to the grind it out, watch the grass grow, wing-t they had so much success with over the past few decades. Could the Vikings be trying to establish a new Kenny Anderson? Carthage will need to play at their highest level on both sides of the ball today to be successful. It's not often that the Red Men win a game against Augie, but I feel real good that today could be one of those days.

North Central led Millikin 35-0 at the half and went on to win 38-7. In the process, the Cardinals outgained the Big Blue 448 to 232. Tassio had 3 TDs, Crackel 1 TD, and 6'8" 270 lb tight end Kyle Fiedorowicz hauled in a 78 yd TD pass.

9/11  Central d. Augustana 28-23 (-5)
9/25  Coe d. Central 37-28 (-9)
10/9  North Central d. Augustana 34-14 (+20)

The math is simple 20-9-5 = #7 NCC should be ranked higher than #6 Coe.   :P

Today's result from Cedar Rapids, IA --
NR Wartburg 31      #6 Coe 21

Looks like simple math works!! :D

I have not been able to watch, but did the defense for Wheaton score some of the points or did the offense score all 52 points.
