Pat-if UWW is "west" #1, how do you get Hathc Champ as #8 seed? Who doesn't make the playoffs, Bethel or Coe?
Also, comment on the WIAC board has North Central or Wheaton being the #1 "north" seed if Mount moves "east."

My spreads this week for a little home cookin :

Millikin +11.5 @ IWU
NCC -14.5 @ Elmhurst
Wheaton -8.5 @ Augie
NPU -17.5 @ Carthage

My picks/ money down:

IWU (with Hockaday out I feel Millikin will really struggle on O but it will be close early)
NCC (too high powered of an offense and a D for Elmhurst to compete with, NCC by 3 scores plus)
Augie (going off last week this one will be close/ Augie might not win but they cover, they are the upset team this year)
Carthage (coming off a tough loss I think CC will put up 21+, NP hasn't scored in conference yet)

I think the EC/NC game is going to be similar in storyline to the Wheaton game from a few weeks ago, where Elmhurst has some opportuntiies but either can't execute and/or doesn't get the job done and the depth of (in this case) NC will win it.

Do you really mean NPU -17.5?  Wouldn't that be +17.5?

Too late. I've already placed my bet!

Dansand,

the house made your bet good. Spread is corrected for everyone else who lost out!

I don't think Pat is speculating Coe vs. Bethel. He is merely saying the #8 seed in the North and West are likely to be the MWC and NATHC AQ's. This is a seeding issue vs a Pool A/C issue. Now it obviously has an effect since each bracket will only have 8 teams but that will sort itself out later. If Coe and/or Bethel make the field they will likely be seeded higher than #8 in their bracket at 9-1.

OK-just wasn't sure that a conference champ would be seeded lower than at a pool C team, but I guess that does happen-so agreed. What is the likely "north" region at this point, both NCC and Wheaton getting in?

I think there's a very good chance both teams get in, especially if NCC beats Wheaton next weekend.

If NCC beats Wheaton (they will be favored) and Wheaton can finish 9-1 (Wheaton has a very challenging game this weekend vs Augie!!) I think it's a lock for both to get in. If Wheaton wins, NCC is a strong pool C but their SOS is lower than at least 12 other teams in the Pool C picture.

Don't discount the possibilty of a 3 way tie for the AQ in the CCIW. If Augie beats Wheaton and Wheaton beats NCC they may all finish 6-1. In this scenario NCC is the likely winner of the AQ since it would likely come down to point differential between the 3 games and NCC currently holds a +20 pt win over Augie. So Augie needs a comination of their win over Wheaton and a Wheaton win over NCC to be more than 20pts to win the AQ. And if Augie beats Wheaton next week, Wheaton would have to beat NCC by a pretty wide margin to overcome the potential pt differential there. But all that is a more complicated situation for another day!

Since the NATHC champ is likely in the Chicago area, it's a short trip. Doesn't have any influence on whether Bethel or Coe make the playoffs -- literally, they are not related decisions at all.

NPU has scored in conference play; the Vikings just haven't scored against anybody's first team yet.

Somebody was telling me that Loras and Dubuque want to join the CCIW.  I have also heard past rumors about St. Norbert and Carroll wanting to rejoin.  Anybody else hear or know about this?
IMO, I don't think the CCIW is going to be changing it's landscape any time soon.

This topic seems to come up every couple of years.

I believe it was covered on the CCIW basketball board a couple of months ago.  I'll see if I can find it, but as a high level summary it is extremely doubtful that the CCIW will expand.  The overall consensus is that an 8 school conference is an ideal size for most sports.  Other considerations why the likes of Stl Norbert, Carroll, Loras and/or Dubuque would not be considered are budget (due to travel expenses) and whether or not they have the full slate of men's/women's sports.

Like I said I don't recall all the details, but if I can find it on the bball board I'll post a link here.

Found it.  Not on the BBall board, but actually was on this board back in June of this year.  Go back to Reply #20212 on page 1348.  Look particularly at Mr. Sager's post for the most detailed perspective.
