NCC was down 7-3 ... Crackel started 0 for 5 and Elmhurst was driving for a second TD until the Cardinals' D stiffened at the right time. Crackel followed with an 88-yard TD pass. NCC got another stop and Antonacci returned a punt 55 yards for a TD. NCC has the ball back in Elmhurst territory with a 16-7 lead.

Montclair St., the last remaining undefeated team in the east, fell today to Cortland St., 10-9.  Good news for the NCC/Wheaton winner since that pretty much assures that the 'east' will be headed by Mount Union again.

At this point I'd predict the four regions will be headed up by Mt. Union, UWW, Wesley (or UMHB or HSC - the 'south'), and either the NCC/Wheaton winner or St. Thomas.

Mr. Ypsi

Slight correction - SUNY-Maritime is still undefeated.  But I find it inconceivable that they would be a #1 seed.

Viking Mike

Let me be the first to give my take on the Augie/Wheaton game today, which Augie lost 20-14 today.

4 Augie turnovers and poor special teams play made the game close.
Poor execution and organization at the end of the game cost the Vikes the win.
As mentioned earlier,  Wheaton was "who we thought they were." A good team but a very beatable team.
Augie outgained the visitors 430 yds to 249, but could not put pts on the board when needed.
With a first and goal at the 2 yd line with a minute to play in the game, Augie was unable to get in the endzone....... Yes
unable to score from the 2!!!  Frantic and disorganized was the coaching and plays
being called in this last minute.

Credit the Wheaton Thunder on a great goal line stand!

Both teams were very good today....... Wheaton had great special team play and the Vikings did not.
Missed field goals x 2 and a crucial fumble in Wheaton territory cost the Vikings.

Despite it all, the Augie D was outstanding today and kept Wheaton at bay with 4 field goals and one touchdown.

The effort was there today and the Vikings played hard, but gosh darn it, I can't help but feel that the coaches let the players down at the end of this one.  Management of time and play calling was less than desireable.

Wheaton played well today and deserved to win.

I'm just disgusted with the outcome given we had a chance to win at the end despite all the miscues.
You have to ask yourself....... is Barnes getting outcoached at the end of these Wheaton games.  He is now 2-9 against the Thunder in his tenure.

Help me someone understand...... Is it time to go back to the Wing T??? (just kidding)

Pretty accurate from my opinion as well.  Augie played well but the Thunder made the plays when they needed to and Augie did not.

Congratulations to Scott Roche, a week after having a disastrous kicking day, and we saw it early as the Thunder went for it on 4th and 12 in the red zone.  But Roche went 4-4 on field goals including a new school record 52 yarder that had plenty of room to spare.

Quite a day for Tyler Langs as well as he had three first half interceptions and 102 yards of interception return.  On top of that he was the Thunder leading tackler on day.  He's making quite a case for an All-American campaign both as a top notch returner and a talented cornerback.

Would have liked to have seen the Thunder be a little bit more aggressive in their playcalling offensively.  Seemed like Joe Davis was just trying not to make a mistake instead of trying to take it to the Vikings defense.

I was impressed with the Vikings defense as they played downhill all day long and really did a nice job breaking the Thunder rhythm on offense.

Defensively the Thunder played a very impressive game considering how often the Thunder called upon them to come up with a big play or a stop and they responded.  They did a tremendous job coming up with the pressure they needed to pressure Lee down once they got down to the goal line in the final minute.

And I certainly do have to agree with Viking Mike, it really felt today like Coach Barnes got outcoached in the final minute of today's game.  I understand that Barnes wanted to make sure that Wheaton had very little to no time left on the clock to respond but Barnes was barely leaving his team time to get into formation and call the play and it hurt them early in the second half when they had to call a timeout to save a delay of game penalty and then didn't have that timeout when they needed it late in the game.

No shocker that it was a game that was decided in the final minute of the game but congrats to the Thunder setting up the big one we've all been waiting for next week at McCully.

You should because it isn't.....   ;)

Carthage beat NPU this evening, 23-10, at Art Keller Field in Kenosha. It was tied at 10-10 at the half, but the Vikings coughed up a key third-quarter fumble in Carthage territory, while the Red Men passing game was able to open up the field enough to score two second-half TDs. NPU ran for 262 yards, including 176 on 25 carries for freshman QB Tyler Krebs.

Definitely North Park's best game of the CCIW season on the offensive side of the football. I'll leave it to somebody who saw both today's game and last week's game against Augie to decide whether it was NPU's best overall effort of the CCIW slate.

Tyler Langs is playing like an all american db for the Thunder. There hasn't been a guy like that in this league since ittersagen. Augie challenged him all day (and beat him 2x on a post corner route on the back side of zone coverage) but he came up with 3 picks and 102 return yds. I really don't understand the call before the half when Augie tried to go deep agains the zone on 3rd and 5 with 18 seconds left. Langs intercepted, ran it back to the 25 and Roche kicked a 42 yarder as time expired to give Wheaton the lead 9-7. That was a big play in the 4th quarter of the game Augie got their yards on underneath routes against the zone. Whenever Wheaton dialed up a blitz Augie went no where and Lee was under pressure each time especially at the goal line. 1st and goal at the 2 and they get no points?? WOW.

All the more impressive since there was a chance Tyler wasn't going to play due to mid-week injury.

How big has the Wheaton secondary been this year?  Yes they've given up some yards, about 200 yards a game.  But they are holding the opposing QB's to 47% pass completions and they have 19 INT's (9 for the Langs brothers), 4 for TD's and 516 yards in returns.  That is 27.2 yards per return!

Agree with your assessment Viking Mike.  The last minue was an absolute debacle for the Augie coaching staff.  Horrible game management.  Augie played well enough to to have won this game, especially the defense.

I wish I had time to do so and know that there are those of you that are more qualified to compare the "head to head" games for both WC and NCC than I could but am very interested in the results and who the statistics say will bring the Bell home because you know the statistics never lie!

All the numbest will show the Naperville School is a better team than Wheaton. Every common opponent Naperville college has beaten more impressively  than the Thunder. V Carthage, @augie, v IWU, @Olivet, @ elmhurst....all these opponents and locations are similar and Naperville College has won them more convincingly. But that's why they play the games.

wheaton will struggle to score and Naperville will pound the running game. Fiddlerontheroofawicz will have his annual NFL coming out party and Wenger will do what it is he does

My early line is Wheaton +10.5
