Holy smoke, quiet on the board overnight.  I'll throw out some topics to get the conversation going again.  Enjoy*

Norm Eash is the best coach in the conference.
Augustana never should have ditched the Wing T.
Decatur has the best bars for Millikin students to attend.
The most recent Elmhurst helmet is the ugliest in the conference.
Red and white is far inferior to Blue and Orange.

*Opinions above are for conversation only and are not necessarily endorsed by matblake  ;)

1.  Please don't make me ill this early in the morning!  Swider is still the best coach in the conference.

2.  Probably, but I think they were losing good QB's to other schools in the conference because kids want to air it out, not get pounded pitching the ball or carrying out a fake!

3.  Don't know, my trips to Decatur were made with the intention of getting out of there as soon and as safely as possible!  I can say that Downtown Naperville has some great watering holes within a couple of blocks of the campus!

4.  Agreed.  Elmhurst has the ugliest helmets in the conference!

5.  No way!!   ;D ;)

Hmm... I wonder whatever happened to that Millikin poster who came on here last year and instead of giving us anything insightful about Millikin football, all he could post about was the recruiting advantage Millikin has because it is closer to the bars in Champaign/Urbana.  He's probably at Kam's right now?   ::)

Please, please, please tell me you didn't just post song lyrics from Anita Bell (I had to google it because I didn't know the artist)?

1. That's just wrong because I now have that lame song in my head.  Everyone sing along...
2. For that reason alone the bell should be restored to it's rightful place outside Swiders office in Wheaton.

What you gonna sing next?  "We are a family"?   :P

Wheaton can NOT afford to take a half off in any phase of their game - which has happened several times this year.   By this I don't mean effort but rather execution.

Couldn't agree with you more.  I've been trying to figure out all year if Wheaton is simply a good team playing great at times or a great team that sometimes plays to the level of their competition.  In every game so far (discounting Olivet and North Park) the first half has been a close affair and the second half Wheaton has begun to assert their will at times.  The encouraging thing is that in each game a different phase (O, D, and special teams) has stepped up to make plays.  To beat the team that is keeping the bell warm for Wheaton, all 3 phases must play at their highest level.

Another stat from last Saturdays game against Elmhurst that has me just a bit nervous:

Rushing           No Gain Loss  Net TD Lg  Avg
---------------------------------------------------------
Williams, Scott 10   14   14      0     1  7  0.0

NCC's rushing defense has done this all year long to some of the nation's top RBs:

Before Game           Vs. NCC                          After Week #9                                                                        Rank   Y/G              Carries    Y     Y/C         Rank   Y/G
Sweeney (UWEC)      #16     135.5           16          28    1.8         #37     104.7
Wilson (MU)              #2      187.2           14          84    5.9         #4       154.1
Williams (EC)            #11     133.2           10          0       0           #24     116.6

Just to be clear... I wouldn't know.  I had a bunch of high school friends who went to Illinois and when I googled on Illini college bars it was a name I recognized from conversations with my friends.   ::)

The interesting stats to me from the Elmhurst game are:

Naperville's rushing offense averaged 3.2 ypc vs Elmhurst (their average is 4.8 for season) on just 152 yds for the game (they average 212).

Naperville gave up 291 yds passing vs Elmhurst (season avg 183 yds per game).

Elmhurst led this game 7-3 (9 play 66 yd drive to take a 7-3 lead), had the ball again inside the Naperville 18 yd line before being sacked and having to punt and then gave up an 88 yrd TD pass (Crackels lone completion) and a 55 yrd punt return that made it 16-7. Even at this point Elmhurst completed a pass to Payton at the Nperville 24 only to have it stripped and fumble back to the red team. Elmhurst forced a punt and the naperville defense held. A 24 yd punt gave Naperville the ball with 4 min left in the half. Spencer stanek appeared and brought his team to the Elmhurst 3 where he was hit and fumbled but the red team recovered at the 1 and scored on the next play to make it 23-7 at halftime.

What I see is an Elmhurst team that had its chances but gave up big plays defensively and on special teams. The NCC defense played well vs the run but gave up almost 300 yds passing. Elmhurst was not careful with the ball and on their 3rd play of the 3rd quarter, Furco threw a pick, naperville returned it to the elmhurst redzone and scored and the rout was on.

Wheaton will have their chances Saturday. Take care of the ball, play great special teams, and take advantage of the opportunities you get and you will be in this game the whole way.
