I was just reading back a few days and saw Cardalum defending Mugsy!  What's next?  Republicans and Democrats working together!  Is this a sign of The Rapture?  Has anyone seen any horses?  I did see a locust the other day, but it was in a museum.  Needless to say, I'm concerned.   ;D

So what would the spread be if North Central and NAIA St. Xavier (11-0) squared off on a neutral field?

(Being a Brother Rice grad, I'm always interested in the happenings between 103rd & 99th, and Pulaski and Central Park.  SXU seems to be really good.)

What would be the spread if North Central and Ditka squared off on a neutral field?   :P

Regular sized Ditka or Mini-Ditka?

Ahh, Mugsy, that's a trick question. NO field is neutral when Ditka is involved.

Let's match NCC vs. Ditka at Lambeau! :o

Congrats to CCIW Players of the Week:

QuoteNAPERVILLE, Ill. – Elmhurst's Scottie Williams, North Central's Matt Wenger and Illinois Wesleyan's Bret Swango were named the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Football Players of the Week Monday.

Williams, a sophomore running back from Woodridge, Ill., and Downers Grove South High School, rushed for 175 yards on 30 carries and three touchdowns in a 35-21 win over Augustana on Saturday. The win was the Bluejays' first over the Vikings since 1979. He averaged 5.8 yards per carry and scored on touchdown runs of eight, four and six yards. He also caught one pass for 15 yards to account for 190 yards on the day. Williams has now rushed for 1,108 yards, becoming the first Bluejay to eclipse 1,100 rushing yards since the 1985 season. He needs only 58 yards to become the Bluejays' new single-season record holder for rushing yardage. Williams is a Marketing major.

Wenger, a senior linebacker from Davis, Ill., and Dakota High School, finished with a game-high 13 tackles, one short of his season high, during the Cardinals' 28-6 win over Wheaton on Saturday. The win clinched North Central at least a share of its fifth-straight CCIW title. Wenger also turned in two tackles for loss, forced a fumble and broke up a pass as the Cardinals surrendered their lowest yardage total in CCIW play this season. Wenger is a Management/Economics/Finance major.

Swango, a junior defensive back from Cuba, Ill., and Cuba High School, scored two touchdowns in the first quarter on blocked punts during the Titans' 49-42 win over Carthage on Saturday. Swango ran the first punt, which was blocked by Ted Delicath (Bartonville, Ill./Limestone), 20 yards for a score to give Illinois Wesleyan a 10-0 lead with 6:24 to play in the first quarter. The second blocked punt, this time by P.J. Cummings (Chicago, Ill./Niles-Notre Dame), was scooped up at the 2-yard line and run in to give the Titans a 17-0 lead with five minutes to go in the first quarter. Swango is a Business major.
Might this have clinched the DPOY for Wenger?

Yup.  He was probably already there before that game, but that type of performance in such a critical game carries a ton of weight in my book.  Player of the Year candidates often have their biggest games in the critical games.

I have to say that apart from watching him cause havoc to the team I root for, being a former LB and coach I love watching the way he plays the game.  Technically sound, intelligent, and he brings the lumber to the point of attack.  I pointed him out to some of the fans on the Wheaton side who aren't as familiar with the CCIW, the rivalry or North Central.  I told them to just isolate on him to see how the game is played.

You could tell a couple of Wheaton players were shaking off the effects of his hits on the way to the huddle.  In fact 1 or 2 players had to take a play or even series off - Peter Jarrett comes to mind when hit from behind on a pass play.  Wenger hit him just as the ball arrived and Jarrett could barely stand up.  His ribs were tender the rest of the game.

With the CCIW title determined, I really hope the stinger issue Wenger is facing does not impact his availability during the playoffs.  I hope he gets some rest against NPU to allow it to heal.  Others have posted how that can become a more chronic issue.

Well now that NC is going to go 10-0, no.  but if Wheaton would have beat NC, it would have been Swider.  Yes, it is obvious, I just wanted to mention it.   Thanks for giving me a hard time.  If I would have been Mugsy, you would have given me praise. :)

The only question now is OPOY and I think that if Jones has a good game and Carthage beats Elmhurst, AND Wheaton bottles up Wilson, that it may go to Jones.  (Wilson only has 2 touchdowns in conference play thus far) I would like to hear everyones take as we go into the final week of CCIW play.

In my book, Jones already has it, regardless of this week's game.  He had more yards passing against IWU that NCC had total!  (He was less than 30 yards shy of also topping Wheaton's total.)

Yes, I realize that conference awards are not based on how one does against IWU ;), but I dare say that those stats would hold true for a number of teams.  The guy is a beast! ;D

If Jones gets OPOY that would be very impressive. Being on a .500 or hopefully barely above .500 at (6-4) really shows a lot. To this day I am still shocked that I received AA honors being on a 6-4 team my senior year with the Mt. Union's/ Whitewater players in there with me.

I still would trade in any personal achievements I received that year to have gone 10-0 and won conference as a senior much less going to the Stagg bowl. I still talk about our 2004 season much more often than my AA senior year. NCC is living my dream this week, hats off to 'em.
