I can't help to wonder if I would have rather had the #2 seed in this region instead of the #1.

I consider 2nd round matchup between ONU/Witt winner much more difficult than what UWW will face (DePauw/Trine).

Maybe we can offer to swap seeds with UWW as a show of good faith  ;D

Really?? you're willing to surrender home field in the North just to avoid playing ONU or Witt? you have yourself a deal  ;D

It's all part of the plan. Get on UWW's good side and then use that against them on the field. Much like Jordan used to befriend his opponents so he could then rip their hearts out!

In all seriousness though, we have to make it to the quarters first before proving yourself against UWW. DePauw/Trine is an easier road than ONU/Witt.
You win! You always do!

DePauw yes, not so sure about Trine. Witt seems down this year but ONU is the team to watch for an upset.

Congrats to the CCIW Players of the Week for week #11:

QuoteNAPERVILLE, Ill. – Augustana's Robert Wood, along with North Central's Joey Michals and Shane Dierking were named the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Football Players of the Week Monday.

Wood, a senior running back from Loves Park, Ill., and Rockford Boylan High School, rushed for a career-high 181 yards on 30 carries during the Vikings' 20-17 win over Illinois Wesleyan in the season finale for both teams on Saturday. Wood recorded the highest rushing total by an Augustana running back since Mike Guzman gained 220 yards against Central of Iowa in the opening game of the 2005 season. The victory allowed the Vikings to finish the season 6-4 overall and 4-3 in the CCIW. It was the 31st winning season in the last 32 years for Augustana. Wood ended the year with 698 yards rushing on 154 attempts with seven touchdowns. He is a Pre-Medicine (Biology) major.

Michals, a sophomore linebacker from Frankfort, Ill., and Providence Catholic High School, tallied a career high 13 tackles, including four solo as the team's middle linebacker, during North Central's 61-7 victory over North Park on Saturday. The win clinched the Cardinals the outright CCIW title. Michals is an English-Literature major.

Dierking, a freshman return specialist from Wheaton, Ill., and Wheaton-Warrenville South High School, ran a punt back 78 yards for a touchdown just before halftime of the Cardinals' victory over North Park. The punt return was the second longest in school history. Dierking also returned the opening kickoff 50 yards to set up North Central's offense with a short field on its first possession. He is a Business major.

Yeah, that was pretty epic. Maybe I could have used a different way to express my feelings but I don't regret saying it. I will respect the CCIW once they decide that they are going to play top teams from the WIAC in their non-conference schedule. It's hard to respect a team that scheduled the worst teams that they could find. This is not said in anger or anything; it's the opinion of most WIAC followers.

At the end of the day, my opinion or your opinion are the same in the sense that they don't matter.

Yes, my opinion and your opinion are the same in the sense that they don't matter. But my opinion and your opinion differ in the sense that yours is wrong.

The CCIW has won 40 national championships in 13 different sports, including four in football. The league as a whole went 22-2 in non-conference football play this season, and even in 2006, the worst year that the league has had in non-conference play since the 1950s, it still had a non-conference winning percentage over .600 and sent two teams to the NCAA playoffs. So this opinion of yours:

Quote from: Warhawk 96 on November 14, 2010, 04:39:04 PMBTW, the CCIW sucks.

... is wrong.

If you want to withhold your respect of the CCIW until the league's teams schedule enough WIAC opponents to your liking, then that's totally your prerogative. But it doesn't validate your opinion of the CCIW as a whole.

That's impressive, 40 National Championships in conference history. I don't know how many championships the WIAC has won in it's history but I do know that we have 45 in this decade alone including 2 in football, 4 in basketball, 1 Baseball, 2 Volleyball and countless track and gymnastics championships. When we quote our statistics we don't have to bring up our teams from 1984.
2007, 2009, 2010, 2011 NCAA Division 3 Champions.
2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011 WIAC Champions.

Greg was clearly not making any kind of statement above regarding the strength of the CCIW vs the strength of the WIAC.  So I'm really not sure why you took it there.  I think it's pretty obvious he was simply responding to your "the CCIW sucks" statement by saying (to paraphrase), "The CCIW is a very good league."

The CCIW has the defending national champion in baseball, has a couple preseason Top 5 basketball teams, has a couple strong teams left in the soccer tournament (one men's team, one women's), has 2 very good football teams, etc, etc..  No one has said the CCIW is stronger than the WIAC, but CCIW fans don't have to "bring up teams from 1984" to find national success either.

Anyone who follows these boards across multiple sports knows that Greg is the first to promote the WIAC as the toughest conference in Division III.  It would be very easy to find examples all across the archives.

I realize you're upset over UWW's football seeding, but to take it out by attacking the CCIW as a whole is kind of silly, isn't it?

You omitted that the CCIW also has the defending champions in Cross Country and Track.

This past weekend, NCC won the Midwest Regional in Cross Country. UWP was second, UWSP third, and UWO fifth.

The quote that is in question was taken out of the context of the situation. We are discussing football on these boards and I never said anything about the other sports. If you thought that I was talking about CCIW swimming then I apologize for the confusion The bottom line is that we (the top tier of the WIAC) feel like we are being ducked by the top CCIW teams that have so much pride in their conference. If you belong in the discussion of good conferences then prove it by at least scheduling top competition, even if it's not the WIAC. When you boast these gaudy non-conference stats that include many teams like Cornell and Olivet, I'm going to roll my eyes.

Given your ire -- "triple monkey stomp"? -- there was no clear implication that your CCIW-sucks comment yesterday was limited to football. I think it's an entirely reasonable reading of your post, within the context of all that free-floating animosity on the WIAC football board yesterday, to infer that you were talking about the CCIW as a whole. After all, the charges that you are making about CCIW football teams -- i.e., they refuse to schedule their WIAC counterparts -- are charges that are leveled at the CCIW by WIACers in other sports.

Of course it wasn't clear. That's what I said. Again, I apologize for the confusion. Titan Q, that response was only after other sports were brought up.

Ha! +k for that excellent blast from the past
