Warhawk,

If both teams take care of their business in the next two weeks and Whitewater does come to Naperville, I am sure all of our North Central fans would be as gracious as Whitewater was to us!  We did have a great time and were really treated well, although we found the cannon a little annoying, and of course the cold weather wasn't much fun either.

Hope to see you in December!

That cannon was terrible.  I must say though, UWW fans were pretty nice during the tailgate.  You may get that initally from the NCC fans, but as the day goes by you cant guarantee anything.  :-\

Although he didn't use emoticons. bleedpurple's message was dripping with sarcasm. He bypassed the first three rounds and went directly to the semifinals.

What's to the rumor that one CCIW school is leaving and another one is joining?

:o ???

Comes up 3-4 times a year.  I just replied with the thread on this not 3 weeks ago.  Rumor at best.  Highly likely will not happen.

North Central is moving to the WIAC so we can justify a #1 seed should we ever get another one :)

NCC will have every opportunity to justify their #1 seed on December 4th.  But maybe they are already looking ahead to their matchup with fellow #1 and well known football power Wesley.  ;)

For the Cardinals, there will be NO looking ahead, I can assure you that.   The only team on their mind is St. Norbert.    We as fans though get the opportunity to look ahead....if not, what the heck would we be able to talk about on the boards??   ;D

#1 Seeds beat St. Norbert by 42. At least that's what happened the last time the Green Knights faced one.  I really think the Cardinals should start focusing on Wesley.  They will be no cake walk for the Cardinals like the warm-up games leading to the semi's.   ;)

I dont agree with that as all.  For a few reasons.   1. A coaching staff spends the entire week preparing and game planning for a team.  They have a routine they follow and they need to practice it and keep it consistent with every team they play.   2.  We need to beat 3 teams before even getting a chance at Wesley.     3.  I think you are kidding.   :-\           This actually makes me wonder about teams like UWW and Mount Union...do they look ahead often?  I would imagine they would.  Its obvious you werent serious about looking ahead, but it does bring up an interesting discussion.

I did use an emoticon!  ;)

Was just messing around. I can't believe ANY team would look ahead in a one and done tournament.  I know UW-W's mantra is getting better every single day.  They are all about a singular focus on the game at hand.  I think that's probably the mode of all the schools.  Look ahead to next Saturday and you'll be watching the game instead of playing in it.  Which is why NCC should do that!  ;D

The Roop

NCC probably takes this one 38-17, or thereabouts, but it's advisable that the Cardinals put them away asap. When SNC has their run game stuffed they always seem to have a receiver wide open so they have big play ability. Special teams are better than average so this shouldn't be the typical 1 vs. 8 blow out. NCC isn't playing a Pool B team after all.

Mr. Flynn

I would be suprised if St. Norbert could put up 17 against NCC's defense, nobody in the cciw put up more than 14 against them.  If they do have a soft spot its right in the middle, a 5 yd dump pass should do it ;).

My guess is that if this is the final score, then it means SNC added a late score. I just can't see SNC doing much against the NCC defense.  It's possible they could score one early as NCC get used to the emotion of it all, I suppose.  Nothing against the Green Knights, but I actually think it WILL be a typical 1 vs 8 blow out.

Rumors out of Kenosha is that there has been some changes made to the coaching staff.
I am sure more will be announced later in the week.

Hey, don't beat me up. I never said I expected NCC to lose.

Speaking of tailgating, how is it at NCC................not that I'm looking ahead or anything. ;)

IMO Wheaton has to do a better job in the red zone.  Take a look at the red zone numbers for Wheaton, NCC, UWW, and Coe.  I also tried to find Mt. Union's stats, but couldn't find the red zone stat.  Granted, this doesn't take into account long plays, but you must score when you get in the red zone.  I was actually kind of surprised.

Wheaton       Red Zone Scoring %:72           Red Zone Touchdown%: 48
NCC               Scoring %: 82                          Touchdown%: 61
UWW             Scoring %: 82                          Touchdown%: 70
Coe                Scoring%: 89                           Touchdown%: 77

Mt Union is 79% RZ scoring and 62% TD's

Looking at Coe, it is not a typical #7 seed. THis game is more like a #2 v #3 seed (and I'm not sure Wheaton is the #2 seed).

They have a prolific offense. Here is the tape.

Wheaton    Opp.      Coe           Opp.
34.0           15.6     38.4          17.6   Average points per game
406.3         294.0    469.4        337.9  Average total offense
202.6         194.5    282.7        216.3  Average passing yards
203.7         99.5      186.7       121.6   Average rushing yards
4.6             3.0       4.3           3.5     Average yards per rush
7.3             5.9       9.8           6.4     Average yards per pass
12.4           12.5     15.5         12.3    Average yards per catch
59.1           46.8     63.0         52.4    Pass completion pct
42              20       53            25      Total touchdowns
16              7         30            7       Rushing touchdowns
17              12        23           18      Passing touchdowns

In addition, they are a playoff tested group as they beat St Johns @St Johns in the playoffs and then lost at St Thomas (in part because Brad Boyle,  their QB got hurt v St Johns). Virtually everyone on their offensive rotation played in the playoffs last year and 6 of their 11 defensive starters played. This is a playoff savy, time tested group that won't be easy to beat. I will say tha while their offense has averaged 30 pts a game against their toughest opponent ( Wartburg) they score just 21 points)

Wheaton will have their hands full on Saturday. Previews are up on the Wheaton website

Definitely a weak spot for Wheaton.  Wheaton can not continue at a 48% RZ TD clip in the playoffs.  That said Wheaton has been to the redzone a reasonable number of times due to playing on a "short field".  22 INT's that have been returned an average of 22.6 yards (4 for TD's) and a 15.8 yard punt return average means Wheaton is often starting their drives at or near midfield and have been getting into the redzone more often (54 times, 3 more than North Central, 1 more than Coe, 3 less than UWW, 8 less than MU).

While Roche has struggled with kicking accuracy sporadically, Wheaton would probably have 2 more loses this year without him.

Agreed.  Certainly the Augie and Albion games he played a large role in.
