Stagg Again!!

I suspected it before today's game, but it is now confirmed: NCC's defense is MUCH better than Wesley's!

If the voters are paying attention, NCC should finish 3rd in the final poll.

I couldn't agree with you more Mr. Ypsi.  A couple of observations about the defenses:

                                   Yds. Rushing       Yds. Passing
UWW v. NCC                   140                   113
UWW v. Wesley               172                   144

Wenger v. UWW               10 solo 3 Asst. 11.5 Total Tackles; 3 TFLs for 5 yds.
Mayes v. UWW                 2 solo 4 Asst. 6 Total Tackles; O TFLs; 0 Sacks

You'd have to ask the folks at UWW, but the numbers appear to speak for themselves as to the DPOY.

You are also comparing an LB with a DL for ONE GAME. I don't think it's a fair analysis. LB's better be making more tackles than DE's. That said I didn't think Mayes was as dominant vs UWW as Wenger was. The vote will likely come down to The Linfield Kid and Wenger. 22 Sacks is a lot of sacks in a pretty good league.

Where's Warhawk 96?  After the first INT of the 2nd 1/2, I saw one of the UWWW players pushing off someone's back while getting off of the pile.  A dirty palyer that lacks character no doubt! ;)

Not only was Wenger dominant all year, he dominated his JR year was well.  Hands down, DPOY!!

usee

Don't think his Jr year has much to do with this year's voting.

Right here buddy! I couldn't see the game but I tracked it on my cell phone. With that being said, I hope you tune in to ESPN next week. UWW will be making their 6th consecutive appearance in the Staff Bowl. I couldn't be any more excited and I'm glad that you watched the game ;D

I understand USee, but Mayes was known for his TFLs and sacks and he laid a goose egg today in those categories.  This is also why I indicated that you would have to ask someone who saw both games (I did not see today's game).  We are all well aware that a player can be disruptive without picking up stats and that UWW may have schemed away from Mayes.  As for using only one game, UWW is the only common opponent on Wesley's and NCC's schedule.  I would also like to get a UWW fan's perspective on NCC v. Wesley as they would have the best perspective.

NCC could be third in the national rankings.   It will be hard to discount both Wesley and Bethel.   But given the games last week, I definitely believe that NCC was a tougher challenge than Wesley.

Wesley 's defense appeared to be easier to game plan against.   Mayes being on the line was double teamed at times and we would put either a tight end or the fullback on his side as well.  Wenger being a linebacker was significantly more mobile and I would say from what I personally saw more athletic.

So, I would vote for Wenger as defensive player of the year and I would rank NCC  3rd in the country.  Have any of you cardinal fans thought now retrospectively that UWW not being a one seed actually hurt NCC.  NCC would have probably made it to the semifinals at least.

I have definitely given it a lot of thought WarhawkDad.  I, for one, thought all along that UWW and MU should have been the top seeds, and that they should have put NCC in the UST bracket as the #4 or #5 overall seed (#1 or #2 seed in the bracket with UST):

I think that NCC would have had a good shot at defeating the field in the UST bracket, but I don't think that the Cardinals had quite enough fire-power on offense this year to defeat either of the two finalists.  Thier offense needed to play mistake-free football in order to defeat UWW, and clearly they did not do that.

As I said in a prior post, I support every CCIW team come playoff time.  I am now supporting Whitewater in next week's game and am hoping for a big Warhawk win.  The way I look at it is that if UWW is able to defeat Wesley by 20 and MU by more than 10, then a strong case can be made for NCC as a Top 3 ranking in the final overall polls.  That ranking may help NCC with their off-season recruiting and help put them over the top and into the Stagg Bowl.  After all, it is Stagg or Bust!!!

Why would you want to go to the Stagg Bowl when the Staff Bowl is apparently the bowl game that all the cool kids attend?

Hmmm ...  Staff Bowl ... Physical Plant vs. Cafeteria Crew, perhaps? ;)

Haha, yeah you got me. I meant the STAGG bowl. Sorry but for some reason my phone automatically adjusts what I'm saying. By the way, that's the D3 national championship. Yeah we're there...

An offense playing, "mistake free," football is pretty hard to do against us.  Our defense isn't too shabby either.   ;)

Whether we win or lose next weekend and the final score, hopefully, doesn't change the fact one way or another, that NCC has already done enough this season to help with off season recruiting.  Being the #1 seed, making it to the quarter finals and making a game of it speaks volumes already.  "Build it and they will come." NCC is well on it's way.  Congrats once again on a great season.
