I don't know any Lenny except the one on The Simpsons but if he was even close to Wenger, let alone better, he must have been one hell of a player.

I didn't think we would when Lenny left in 05, but we plugged in Wenger and he turned out to be better than Lenny.

I'm not so sure about that...

Surely you can't be serious.

Lenny had 466 tackles to Wenger's 422.  Wenger also played 7.5 more games than Lenny between playoffs and the half a game he played his first senior year at Ohio Northern.  That means Lenny averaged 11.4 tackles per game to Wenger's 8.7.  And, as a whole, Wenger had a much better d-line to keep the offensive linemen off of him than Lenny did.  Was Wenger more explosive?  Certainly.  He was impressive because he really made contact with an exclamation point.  But I think that Lenny had a better nose for the ball and the numbers show it.

Wenger had 47.5 tackles for 169 yards loss, 246 solo tackles, and 10 interceptions compared to Radke's 36 tackles for 111 yards loss, 215 solo tackles, and 9 interceptions.  If you ask me those numbers show a "nose for the Ball".  Assisted tackles are great but alot of the time they occur after someone else has already stopped a runner.

How neat to be able to turn on the TV and see Pete and Andy on live NFL game. Guys that I have shook hands with and had a conversation with.  That is pretty cool.

Not sure what to make of this one.  Don't know much about Mr. Connors, other than Diablo Valley is located in Northern California.  Doesn't do anything to make me feel better about the staff's ability to effectively recruit in Chicago.  Maybe they are planning to build a west coast pipeline to Augie.   :-\

If he's a skilled recruiter, it shouldn't matter much. best of luck to the Augie's in 2011.

Please do not take my comments as a slight on Wenger AT ALL!   He was very fun to watch and played with an intensity that Lenny could not match, but its just my opinion that Lenny had a better nose for the ball.  He has more tackles in 7.5 less games...just pointing out a fact.  And Wenger had a bigger, better, faster defensive line to keep the o-linemen off of him...another fact.  I don't think Wenger's superiority is as clear cut as everyone claims.  Addressing your point, even with Matt's 246 to Lenny's 215 solo tackles, Lenny still has more per game.  I love Wenger and I'm just as sad as everyone else (who wears red and white) that he won't be here next year, I just think that Lenny was just as good.

The thing that wenger has that radtke didn't have is NFL speed. That's why wenger is clearly a more dominant player. He made plays Radtke nev made. I have no skin in this game and watched both players play several years. Radtke is in the the top 15 Lbs to have played in the CCIW and wenger is in the top 3.

Your argument about better Dlinemen doesn't hold water. You could actually argue wenger would have had more tackles with lesser defenders around him as garza, Hayes and clendenning made many of the takcles before wenger had a chance. You are entitled to your opinion, however sentimental it may be. :)

Mr. Ypsi

It has been hilarious occasionally checking in on bowl games on SI today.  The Pinstripe Bowl (Yankee Stadium, Syracuse beat K State) was supposedly played in 81 degree weather (I hope they had Noah standing by if NYC suddenly went to 81)!  The Music City Bowl in Nashville was played in partly sunny (it started 3 hours after sunset) 84 degree weather!  For both games, down and distance seemed to vary entirely at random - no way to know what the heck was happening. ::)

Glad I couldn't have cared less about the outcomes! ;D

[If SI.com can do that bad a job, perhaps we should cut some slack to d3 livestats! :P]

Studebaker made an ALL NFL Team... mentions Wheaton College

http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=easterbrook/101228_tuesday_morning_quarterback&sportCat=nfl

Unfortunately Easterbrook continues to slaughter the facts.  By the rules set for his All-NFL team, Andy should not be a candidate.  He has Andy listed as undrafted.  Umm... he was drafted in the 6th round by the Eagles, thus making him ineligible for the team.

First, I'd like to tell everyone on the board Happy New Year.

Second, NT being nostalgic?  I think not.  You are all forgetting that Lenny was invited not only to the Aztec Bowl (the D3 All Star game), but to the Hula Bowl as well. The Hula Bowl is hosted in Honolulu and the teams are comprised by nearly 98% D1 athletes.  Here's the kicker, Len had 9 SOLO tackles in that game, making him the second leading tackler of the game.  So for someone to say that he didn't have NFL speed is ridiculous, he definitely does.  I'm going to quote former Bear Ed O'Bradovich talking about Dick Butkus "For him to run a 100 yard dash, it'd take him 3 days.  But from middle linebacker, 20 yards that way, 20 yards that way, and 20 yards that way (pointing sideline to sideline and dropping back), no one was quicker."  You don't have to run a good 40 to be a GREAT NFL player, just ask Butkus or Payton.  Lenny had game speed, and had a great instinct for the game.  I figured everyone was throwing out stats, but completely forgot about that one.

I'm not trying to take anything away from Wenger either.  He is definitely one of the best linebackers I have seen play in D3.  He has a great nose for the ball and athletic ability.  But why compare the two.  I mean, sure it's great to think about the stats and whatever, but can't we just be happy they played for the Red and White?  They are both great players, Lenny is playing for the Slaughter and doing well, and Wenger is getting NFL looks.  Both of those are great for NCC.  Let's hope that we get someone as good as both of those guys to step up and fill in at Mike for NCC.
