It's good to see NPU's Tony Kebede named CCIW Special Teams Player of the Week, as he wasn't even sure the day before the game that he had the kicking job for the Vikings. Kebede and Bryn Nottoli were neck-and-neck throughout camp, and the coaches had to have the two of them engage in a marathon kicking duel on Friday evening to determine the starting spot.

Congrats to the CCIW players of the week...

Good to see some EC love from conference but I want to see them get these awards against conference foes.

Elmhurst always loads up on POW honors in non conf. because they have always played creampuffs in the non conf.  (i.e. CUC, Ben, Olivet) teams that only up until recently have been good.  Then the CCIW big guns come around and both the stats and Wins dwindle.

Until EC starts consistently winning the games against the upper eschilon teams of the conference annually,  nobody is going to give them much notice.

Coach Thorne's comments about the Cardinals loss to Redlands last weekend. . It sounds like he was especially distressed by the results on the defensive side, particularly pass defense, as evidenced by his comments regarding "feeling the receiver," and "right at the end give him a little push or something."

Okay now, 79jaybird, how goes the "new venue"?  I hope well.  If all works well for you and Mr. GS, I'll be seeing you next year in 2012 as Hope starts its series with NP.  Good luck this weekend; wish us the same as we'll need it! :D

Hah. According to some people, football coaches have the cleanest vocabulary ever, especially when they get frustrated due to turnovers and penalties...just ask Brian Kelly and Rex Ryan.  8-) :D

NPU is likely to see a steady diet of MIAA teams in future non-conference play, as NPU head coach Scott Pethtel is an Adrian grad and he likes to recruit players from Michiana.

Jaybird, it was not that long ago that we were the creampuffs. If you look at the last 10 years the program has come a long way. I have all the confidence that the next step is going to be taken.

Bluejay- When I played at Elmhurst we were a creampuff indeed struggling to get 2-3 wins a year. Then my first 6-7 years calling the EC games on WRSE we were pretty poor too.  The problem at Elmhurst is not the kids playing. It is internal.  We have some pretty good players (i.e. Dallas Till, Greg Rude, Dom Demma, Todd Evans, etc.) but they can only do so much.

What stuck out to me most, other than the crucial, drive sustaining penalities, was the poor tackling that Coach Thorne alluded too.  I didn't see the same crisp tackling that we've seen in past years by NCC defenses.

I'm sure that will likely be addressed very quickly - unfortunately.
