What surprised me most is the number of sacks given up by each team thus far.

Wheaton has played 4 new offensive lineman who had not seen real varsity action before this year and one returning starter is in a boot. Also, Roberts escaped 10-15 sacks last year when the pocket broke down and turned losses into first downs.

Actually the point I was trying to make was the inverse.  I stated that typically Wheaton & IWU have some stout defensive lineman and LB's.  Instead of sacks allowed, I meant sacks by.  Both Wheaton & IWU only have 2 sacks in 3 games.

Conversely Wheaton has allowed 6 sacks in 3 games and IWU allowed 7.  For the number of times they have attempted to pass, that isn't too bad.  Especially for Wheaton given they have 4 new offensive lineman.

How many years into Wheaton's 3-4 defense are we?  Is it 2 or 3?  Wonder if that has been part of the drop off.  It might just be they don't have guy good at sacking right now, but there might still be a learning curve happening with the players and perhaps the coaching, even from the personnel side of things.

This is the 3rd year in the 3-4 scheme.  They have experienced players who have shown some ability to get to the QB.  JD East had 4 sacks last year and Robert Ramsey had 6 sacks last year, just to name a few. Not huge sack numbers, but definitely hints that more could be in store for 2011.

Now that the Wheaton/NPposters have hogged the board ;) ;D 8-) ???(Are these enough smiley guy things?) Any opinions about the other CCIW games going on this week? Go Cards!!

No, I'm sorry, but you're still two smileys under quota, so be prepared to have NPU and Wheaton posters come down upon you like a ton of bricks. ;)

I concurr with this assessment.  But I'm left with a lingering uneasy feeling about the IWU/Wheaton game.

The last 2 times down in Bloomington, IWU has killed Wheaton's season (both were either the last week or 2nd to last week of the season, and both negated Wheaton's chance for a Co-CCIW championship).  Hopefully since it is early the season, this we can buck this trend.

It's always a tricky trip down to IWU.  Say what you want to about the Titans, but they are usually very prepared and eager to get the job done.  This has been a very interesting series the last several years.

The Carthage game has me feeling a bit uneasy for some reason. I don't know if it's the ghosts of Kenosha's past or what, but it seems any time NCC goes to Carthage I get queezy. Must be the cheese curds from THE Cheese Castle.

NCC will most likely dominate Carthage and spoil Homecoming in their beautiful, newly renovated stadium. The stadium might be the highlight of the day for the RedMen. Maybe Coach Rucks can use this as bulletin board material.  ;) ;D

I have no specific clarifications for my comment other than this RedMen squad is still searching for an identity and some form of consistency on both sides of the ball. Stranger things have happened thou and that's what I'll be hoping for.

Why didn't you post a picture of Captain Obvious's ranking officer, Major Upset? ;)

Somehow I don't think Capt. Obvious and Maj. Upset are in the same command structure. :)

That is correct...Major Upset is in Special Forces on covert operations, thus his picture is classified. No one here has the proper security clearance to view. Actually, no one knows for sure what he looks like. Capt. Obvious is in the Corps of Engineers.

Tailgater---

I sense you're employing a bit of reverse psychology here.

After their season opening loss on the road, the Cardinals are taking the RedMen very seriously,
and are prepared for a tough battle. The combination of the Carthage home field advantage, the
new stadium, that its CC's homecoming, the opening conference game, and the fact the Cards
already lost one on the road is forcing NC not to overlook what they feel will be a formidable
challenge in Cheeseland.

Agree with all but #!. Will be happy if NCC "wins easily," but not anticipating such. I believe they'll win, just how "easily" is the question

Wheaton is ranked #7 in the country, but it will not be even close to surprising to see IWU give them a VERY hard time. This is a Pick Ems nightmare choice.

My thoughts exactly. I think Wheaton wins by 10-17 points but it will be a hard fought battle.
I don't think North Central will have any problem with Carthage and will win by several scores.
I think Augie will still pull out a win, although it should be pretty close
I see Elmhurst winning by at least 2 TD's

GO THUNDER!

I believe the Wheaton/IWU game will be closer to 6-8pt range.  Too many of their games have gone down to the wire recently and I believe this year is no different.

But I would love to see a 10-17pt Wheaton victory!   ;)

Wheaton's average margin of victory vs. Wesleyan since '06 is 14.4 points... I like where I stand  8-) ... Let's leave margin of victory in games only played in Bloomington out of this since '06 please... :o

Oh, but to support my view I can't leave out the away games since the game is in Bloomington.  My assertion as to why the game will be closer is based on the very close statistical comparison I provide a page or so ago and:

1-4 record, with loss by 3pts, 4pts, and 10pts in the last 3 games (average of 5.6 pts).

Now... granted the games at McCully Field have been complete opposite (large margins of victory), which leads to your stat on average margin of victory since 2006.

5-0 record, with average margin of victory at 21 pts.

Other interesting stat: Wheaton has averaged 38 pts a game in the home series, but only 18.6 in the away series.
