LETS ROLL

I will be making the trip to Bloomington for the game tomorrow. Looks like a perfect fall night for some football!

Confident that last week's problems won't affect us this time, I'm happy to declare that NPU football will be on the air tomorrow! Just click here for all the action as the Vikings travel to Elmhurst to take on the Bluejays tomorrow at 1 pm. I'll be bringing you the play-by-play, while former Vikings coach Rob Dubicz will be doing the commentary.

Back to football...

Although it is not the game of the week, Millikin and Augie might shape up to be an interesting game. Millikin hasn't defeated Augie since the Big 4, Little 4 days (back in 2000). Augie has been off to an awful start and Millikin might be primed for stealing one under the lights in Rock Island.

Any thoughts?

Oldnuthin?

Any Augie posters?

the keys for Millikin today lie with both lines. If the young d line can stop the run and force Augie to pass, they will force Augie into its. Millikins,  strength. good back 7 for Millikin. At the same time the o line must impose its will on Augie and control the clock with sustained drives that take time off the clock in chunks. Roucsh is not the fastest RB you will see, but he is a beast to tackle. i do have some concern at this minute, as Adrian is leading #17 Trine by 10 in  the first half. they may have been better competition then I thought.

saw this post after  today's game was played and the broadcast was concluded.  so my question for mr. sager is this:  was there enough time between plays for you to be able to wax eloquent with play-by-play and all your observations?  if you are as verbose on the air as you are on the d3.com boards, i'm afraid that you won't be able to call the game...   ;-)

North Park vs Elmhurst

After watching the first 2.5 quarters of the game it was pretty evident that North Park (although a nice non-conference story) are not yet ready to compete in the CCIW and I would be shocked if they won a game in conference. I hate writing too many derogatory comments towards 18-22 year olds so I will try to be constructive here. The QB for North Park albeit a great runner when he may have a lane to run through is not yet developed in the passing game and continually threw an ugly ball into the wind when called upon. This could be an issue for north park as they play from behind and cannot stay with their wing running game.

As for my jays. A tipped pass early caused an INT on the first possession but after that it was pretty much just dominating NP on mostly ever snap. NP safeties looked to be playing cover 4 or a deep cover 2 scheme which left so much room between the safeties and the linebackers. The Jays o line was getting good leverage moving them off the ball and picking up linebackers so as soon as Williams broke through the line he was easily getting 6-8 yards a carry. When coming through untouched and williams was in the open field the safeties had no chance against Williams in the open field which lead to some 60 plus runs. How NP was playing with the secondary so deep there was really no reason to open up the passing game. NP did score on a reverse which had to be about a quarter of their total yards for the entire game. You add back to back defensive touchdowns and it got ugly quickly before half. A great job from the coaching staff of EC to recognize the defensive scheme they were up against and take advantage of it.

Overall a great performance and it will take an equally great performance next week at weekend. I am looking forward to see the results from tonight's action.

Love Me Some Negative Karma!

Mr. Ypsi

Greg, I did my duty and picked NPU, while most pickers went with the Jays.  That was supposed to guarantee a win. ::)

What the heck happened - I honestly expected a close Viking loss, if not a victory. :o

Kind of what I feared for the RedMen. The offense hasn't been able to establish an identity. It's becoming apparent that the passing game from the past few years is gone. Not sure if this is because a strong armed QB has not been established or Carthage feels they have the personnel for a strong running game. Averaging 2.8 yards per carry doesn't speak well for a strong running attack. The running game did keep NCC's offense off the field as Carthage won the time of possession battle approx. 35.5 to 24.5 minutes. Carthage also had 14 first downs to NCC's 12. Neither team committed a turn-over. It appears this was a solid defensive effort for both Carthage and NCC. Carthage held a high scoring NCC offense in check allowing only 17 points. That speaks well for the RedMen defense. Let's hope Carthage can get the offense rolling next week as it's hard to beat an opponent if you don't score.

Looks like kick-off return for Wheaton has been the best part of their offensive attach so far. 2 long returns have set up Wheaton for a TD and a field goal. They trail IWU 24-12 at the end of the third Qtr.  Wheaton has lost RB #32 Jarret for the game with an ankle injury. For this young man's sake I hope it isn't as serious as it appeared. Justin Swider doing a nice job in relief of Jarret.

IWU 24
Wheaton 19

IWU's defense was really good in this one.  A lot of Wheaton's points came off short field situations.

Congrats to IWU with a big 24-19 win over Wheaton. A solid performance by a bend, but don't break Titan defense. I was very impressed with the overall IWU team performance this evening. Looks like turn-overs had a big roll in Wheaton's undoing.

Nice to be able to watch the game at home in the western suburbs. The camera man could use a little more practice anticipating the movement of the ball as several plays happened off-screen.  ??? Still a very entertaining game to watch.
