We'll see how IWU plays the rest of the season to see if their programs is equal to Wheaton and NCC.

In recent years, it seems like the IWU and Wheaton programs have been on a similar level overall, with North Central on a completely different level...

CCIW record, 2007 - 2011 (last 4 full seasons plus 1 game this year)
North Central, 27-2 (4 titles - 2 outright, 2 shared)
Wheaton, 20-9
Illinois Wesleyan, 20-9 (2 titles - both shared)

IWU had that awful 5-year stretch from 2002 - 2006, of course, but it seems the program has bounced back.

Occasionally, victory in itself may not be enough either for a particular team or its fans. Rather, they feel an air of superiority wherein a victory over an opponent on the field of play is not enough and, in addition, they expect at least a bit of post game ass-kissing from their vanquished foe.
Of course, there is no evidence to suggest that was the case in this instance, but the fact is the situation does exist within all levels throughout the world of sport.

I'm not exactly sure if you are accusing me of this or not, so I'll simply clarify that I'm not looking for ass kissing.  Just accuracy.  The quote below is inaccurate and misleading in my opinion...

"And the sad thing is that everything, everything was just self-inflicted wounds - just plays that our kids could have made, and things that could have been done differently, and things that it wasn't our opponent doing things to us."

And there are plenty of teams that would love to have been as good as Wheaton and Wesleyan have
been since 2007. Winning more than twice as many as you lose is nothing to sneeze at!

Looking ahead to this weekend, NC hosts an 0-5 Augie squad.  Obviously NC needs to win out, but how big is the game for Augie?  If they can't pull the upset, how patient will the administration be?  Does 2-8 or 1-9 in Rock Island call for drastic measures?

I didn't see this coming for AU, and think that they have the talent to be at least 3-2 or 4-1 at this point (although I have to admit that I only watched their opener on the net).  Any opinions on the Vikings(west)?

Sorry.  I meant 0-4 looking at 0-5.

I was impressed with Carthage's defense which  made NC's offense look very average in putting up 17 offensive points.  I think that Cartage will win some big games this year and am glad we played you early before you offense gets rolling.

Playing Carthage at Carthage has been a tough game for NC the past two times they've been there. I think playing on the road is tough in the CCIW. As yes NC's offense looked sluggish, but remember they came off a bye week after playing two weaker non-conference games. Look for them to rebound this week. NC's defense, however, did a great job of getting that first shut-out.

What I should have said is-don't expect NC to be putting up 40,50,60 or more points against conference opponents. It's not going to happen. I'm just glad they got the win.

I thought about whether or not to post the link to Coach Swider's comments and seriously thought about not posting it, but then since it was on youtube I went ahead since it was posted on a public forum.  I was disappointed to see the loss for Wheaton (wasn't home to watch/listen to the game).  Very frustrating.  Seems that IWU is the Stabalizing High Pressure on Wheaton's weather map.

That said, it's homecoming week at Wheaton.  They play Elmhurst.  Will the Bluejays be able to dominate the entire game like they did the first half last year?  How will the Thunder rebound?

I'll actually be at the game this week as it is the 15th reunion for my class.  I'm really excited, it's only about once every 4 years or so now that I get to see a live Wheaton game.  Me and Mrs. Matblake will be sitting in the handicapped accessible seats. They are the metal stands to the right of the main stands on Wheaton's side.  Anybody who wants to come over and say hello is welcome to do so.

One of my worst and most embarrassing football memories was a 65-0 shellacking at the hands of Augustana my freshman year on family night.  I hope you're wrong and the Cards can turn the tables on the Vikings less than a decade after that horrible defeat and deal a similar blow to them on Saturday evening.  I know I'll be there rooting for it.

Although it is always tough for me to root for the new "evil empire" in Naperville (said in fun and out of respect), I echo your thoughts on Augie. So many times as a player our team was roughed up by them. Being that we broke an embarrassing streak last year against Augie, I could never root for them. I hope NC puts up 80 points on them.

How about a big scoring game for the offense and another shutout for the DEFENSE! I'm a little partial to the defense ;)

"Sending a message" at the collegiate level, in my opinion, belies the concept of sportsmanship.  Having said that, why did Packer head coach Mike McCarthy have Aaron Rodgers throw to Donald Driver halfway through the fourth qtr with a 20+point lead?  Why is Rodgers still in the game, risking injury!?

What an idiot.

I think this is the year Augie's longstanding streak of consecutive 500 or better seasons comes to a close. Quite a remarkable and difficutl feat to accomplish.

I hope Augie is not too quick to cut Cushman's head off.  You have to give the guy (any HC) a couple of seasons to get a least one cycle of recruits through the system.  I fear Augie's "Must win at all costs" view of footbal and life might not be too generous with Cushman.

Good stats Mugsy.  The reason I think Wheaton wins Saturday is this.   A) Wheaton is going to be playing with some extra mo-jo after the disappointing from last week's loss to IWU.  I know Coach Swider and I'm sure he motivated the boys hard to get them to refocus on the game ahead.  B) When was the last time Elmhurst played a full 4 quarters of football @ Wheaton?  I know it's before 1998 when I first joined Elmhurst as a freshy.  Turnovers, miscues, and down right lack of execution have been the forte for Elmhurst @ McCully.  At Langhorst, it's a different story.  Yes, this is an improved Elmhurst team, but I still see this as a 35-21 or 28-17 Wheaton win.
