I realize that you're just cutting-and-pasting from the CCIW website, Mugsy, but as an FYI I'd like to point out that Cicero Porter is not a linebacker. He's a cornerback. So is Willie Sawyer, whose position is undefined on the stats page. The other undefined NPU tackler, Kyle Leibforth, is a linebacker.

A little National publicity for NCC's monster TE. ESPN's Mel Kiper mentioned him in a tweet yesterday:

MelKiperESPN: Under the radar prospects - Kyle Fiedorowicz, TE, North Central College, Chucky Curry,OG,West Alabama, Renard Williams,DT,Eastern Washington

Nice to see him getting some love. I'm sure he will get more as the season wears on. I know Wheaton is looking forward to seeing him again  ;D

Another shout out for NCC and in this case the O-line of Jace Werkheiser, John Cannova, Nick Capristo, Joe Guenther, Conor Oenning, North Central (Ill.)

They have yet to give up a sack in conference play this year.

New Tradition/GS good to hear from you. I hope all is well with you and your family.  Been busy with a 19 month at home.
Thank you for pointing out to bluejay4ever, what I was referring to.  Yes,  Bluejay4ever, I have been involved (almost like a coach) with the EC program from 1998-up until last year.  I have seen many EC teams under Journell and now Lester showing signs of climbing the ladder, breaking school records, garnering national "eyes", but until Elmhurst can consistently put together 7-3 (or better) records and 5-2 (or better) CCIW records,  nobody is going to give them a serious look.  History of poor records certainly is a contributing factor.

Do I think Elmhurst has some good coaches?  Yes, of course.  Do I think EC has some quality athletes? A few indeed.  But what do these big names (and great people off the field) i.e. Luna, Demma, Andy Thompson etc. have to show?  6-4 record at best.  It's a team sport and no one athlete is going to make the difference.

For Elmhurst to continue to climb the ladder, they have to have successive solid recruiting classes,  a committment to succeed and put all that is needed into athletics.  This goes way beyond the scope of just the HC. and the college to rally around the players/team.  Some of these factors are much improved while others are still lacking.  My wife is a Prof at the College and certainly I do hear and see much on and off the field.

This brings up a question for your d3 football guys on here. Which poll/rankings do you believe in most? There are a handful of them out there including the d3 one, the afca one, ill throw in the d3posters one, lindys, etc...

I just wonder because they don't always seem to match. But I am interested as to which one you guys think is the one to trust most.

It was painful to watch. For all you Bears fans on here, and even for the packers and vikings fans who enjoy when a rival loses, here is an article from Dan Bernstein. It pretty much sums it all up.

http://chicago.cbslocal.com/2011/10/11/bernstein-beginning-of-the-end/

I wonder how Gabe Carimi feels knowing that his linemates last year were a better line than his linemates this year. Is there anyway you can trade the Bears offensive line for the University of Wisconsin's?

Being ranked within a few different spots in the various means a team is probably right around where they should be. The polls give you an idea of how a team has competed-so far. But look at how many of the top 25 have been tripped up this season. On any given Saturday...

I only pay attention to the d3football.com poll.  The fan polls are fun, but are just for that, fun.  The other national polls simply do not pay enough attention to all of d3.  Although I don't doubt that some attempt is made for accuracy from the other national polls (outside of the preseason ones as I've stopped trying to understand those)  you can usually see from the final d3football.com poll that it is pretty accurate for the entire top 25.  Other polls seem to get more ambiguous after the top 5 or so.

Pat Coleman

I think if you look at the ranked teams that get upset each week, invariably they were ranked higher in the coaches' poll than they were in our poll.

Good example from this past week: Our poll had Wartburg at No. 22 going into last week's game, and Dubuque unranked, with the game at Dubuque. The AFCA had Dubuque ranked No. 20 and Wartburg ranked No. 21. The AFCA poll said Dubuque should win that game, the higher ranked team playing at home. Wartburg won, however.

The AFCA poll loves unbeaten teams more than teams with losses. Here's another example, and you tell me which poll was more accurate:

No. 7 Montclair State 34, No. 24 Cortland State 33 (game at Montclair)
No. 11 Montclair State 34, No. 15 Cortland State 33
The second one is our poll.

Wittenberg, which lost at Huntingdon this past week, was ranked 11th in their poll, 14th in ours. Two weeks ago Trine lost, ranked No. 12 in their poll, No. 17 in ours.

Earlier in the season:

Cal Lutheran 28, No. 18 Redlands 24 (at Cal Lutheran)
No. 20 Cal Lutheran 28, No. 13 Redlands 24

Ours is the second one. Obviously we didn't nail this result but we were a lot closer than they were.

Just some food for thought. Neither poll is perfect but we have a very good track record.

Coach Thorne is a very tough grader--OUCH! ;D

I actually thought that Coach Thorne was pretty fair.  Brian on the other hand was a bit of an easy grader overall.  A+'s don't ever happen.  No unit or individual is perfect on every play.  Not even the running backs.   ;)
