5. Wheaton also had a poor fan turn out for an away game and besides for those working I didn't see many students for both teams at the game. I understand that Wheaton was a heavy favorite I was just disappointed with what seemed like a lack of interest for a Saturday night game.

I would have to check to make sure, but it is possible Wheaton was on fall break last weekend, which would mean a large percentage of students would be either home or off campus for the weekend.

Without checking with a student or faculty member, I looked at the calendar and last weekend appears to be the 8th weekend after the start of the semester, which would make it fall break.

In years past Wheaton has had a home game over fall break and attendence was brutal for a home game (30 or 40% of a normal home game).  Comments would be made on this board regarding "what's up with Wheaton fans?" or "where are the Wheaton fans?".  Clearly Wheaton is not the only school that has a fall break, is it?

Because of trimesters, North Central does not have a fall break.

I will preface this by saying I have all the respect in the world for Wheaton's spiritual and religious values.  That being said, I can't help but think of this whenever the dancing thing is brought up.

Touche.  I've always wondered when we were going to rename the department the State Farm School of Business and Risk Management.

Sending all support and good wishes to Kathie and Coach Thorne.  Wonderful story of the solidarity of the North Central football community.  John and Kathie Thorne are Titans too.

As much as we compete hard against each other on the field, we also stand together.  I send my prayers to the Thornes and hope they know the CCIW stands with them.

My prayers for Kathie, Coach, and the entire Thorne family.  My Grandma passed shortly after my 2002 graduation from Elmhurst from Multiple Myeloma.  Just a heartwrenching disease that affects everybody.  My Grandma was a trooper and fought it as best she could, as I know the Thornes will too.  My thoughts are with you guys.

Watching anyone pass from cancer takes a huge toll, not only on the family, but on the caretakers as well. The nurses that took care of my mom were just a wonderful, caring group of people. How they deal with this issue on a daily basis is beyond me. As sad as this story is, there was a little humor when the team shaved their heads (not something I would post, but if anyone is interested...)

Very difficult news to hear, but amazing story on how the Thornes and the NCC community are moving forward together.

I too will add this to my list of prayers and will be diligent in praying for the Thornes.

A great group of posters on this board!  It reminds us that football is a game--an important game that we love---but a game nonetheless.

Neverwas

I was impressed with Wheaton WR #4, Hiben after watching the Wheaton/Carthage game last weekend.  I did a bit of digging on him over the past few games, excluding NPU...sorry GS, Lakeshore and other NPU supporters.  He was targeted 11 times against both Carthage and Elmhurst.  Both games were more targets than Watkins...their number one WR who is senior.  Watkins is also involved in the run game, increasing his touches.  What has been most interesting, to me, is the way they use Hiben.  On Saturday he was both the possession WR and the big play guy.  He had 5 catches on 3rd down, all for first downs I believe and good for 5 of Wheaton's 8 3rd down conversions.  They also ran a few sets to get him isolated and took deep shots and ran a few double moves for big gainers.  It seems him and Meador have a good connection on the timing routes to the outside.  He has been very dependable.  Interesting to see him get so many targets but, in the two games I looked at, he has been very productive.  I hope Wheaton can keep this up.
