NPU leading Carthage in the 4th quarter, 28-24 with 6:28 left.  Could the winless CCIW streak be over?  (at least that is the score that the Wheaton broadcast has given).

Game over in Wheaton.  Augie scores late TD when Wheaton punter dropped snap at the Wheaton 7.  Final: 36-7.

If the school from Naperville takes care of business tonight, it sets up the match up of two 7-1 teams sluggin' it out for the bell.

Bring home the BELL!!!!

IWU only leads 28-25 in Decatur.  Millikin has the ball in the IWU redzone with 2 minutes left.  It is 4th down.  Need to find the LiveStats quickly.

Millikin went for it on 4th and 3 and was sacked.  So it looks like IWU may squeak it out.

Spoke too soon... Millikin holds IWU to 3 and out. So Millikin with get the ball back with just over a minute left. 28-25 IWU.

Looks like Carthage scored late and leads 31-28 with 35 seconds left.  Gotta be heart breaking in Chicago, as the streak will continue.

IWU defeats Millikin 28-25.  Wow.

Carthage pulls it out in the last minute and defeats NPU 31-28.

Yup, IWU wins over MU 28-25, playing just good enough.  Not all that impressive.  Titans really need more of a running game to augment the passing.  MU played well, esp. in the second half and had a nice running game going vs. the Titans.  Titans will have to play better than this to win on the road at Carthage next week.  But, a win is a win . . . no need to apologize.

Illinois is 0-0 in Happy Valley, apparently in the middle of a snow storm, an early nor'easter.  Wild.

P.S.  Let's hope Elmhurst pulls an upset later tonight.  But, big doubties on that.  ms

UW-Oshkosh gets their third loss losing to UW-La Crosse 30-24 in overtime. Everybody besides UWW in the WIAC has three losses affecting the pool c bid situation.

Ill wait until Monday to begin chatter about the bell. To quote John Wayne in McLintock - "But I won't, I won't, the hell I won't " Bring back the bell to Wheaton to restore order and balance in the universe or empty spot in trophy case. ;) :D ;D

Titan Q

Some Norm Eash audio after yesterday's scare in Decatur...

http://wjbc.com/early-lead-holds-as-illinois-wesleyan-avoids-upset-bid/

Sounds like the Titans failed to put Millikin away several times in the game.  IWU led 14-2 in the 1st Q, 21-5 in the 3rd, and 28-18 in the 4th.

This was the most successfully any team has moved the ball vs the Titans this season.  The Big Blue racked up a whopping 438 total yards (Wheaton had 343 and NCC 334).  The majority of these Millikin yards seemed to come after halftime.

Fortunately, IWU got a huge play out of their 5th year senior - the Ryan Jenkins sack on 4th down basically sealed the win for the Titans.

IWU will have to get their defense back in order, otherwise they will invite trouble next week in Kenosha.  I will say that of IWU's remaining 3 games (heading into yesterday), the Millikin game worried me the most - I've seen good Titans teams struggle vs the Big Blue.  Hoping IWU can take care of business and make the NCAA field.

A few remarks about last nights game against Elmhurst:

At times, Elmhurst played very good, inspired football.
At times Elmhurst didn't play very good football.
NCC can't play the way we did last night against real good opponents.
The offense appeared out of sync most of the night. Our QB had a terrible night throwing the ball. Passes were either sailing or three yards short of the intended receiver.
There were times when the defense was getting gashed for pretty decent yardage. Yet, at times they played stellar football.
With that said.................I've been watching Cardinal football for a long time. Isn't it GREAT to see that the program is at a point to where I can feel this way in a 51-10 victory? (as I shake my head............................).
The Cards are pretty banged up. Let's get healthy, play well and keep the bell.

Mugsy, thought you might want to know that your favorite TE was shaken up last night. Hopefully, he will be ok to play and help NCC retain the bell and frustrate the heck out of you!   ;D
