Gee....in response to the way some of you NCC posters, and a few UWW posters that just can't seem to stop crowing that they beaten Mount the last 3 out of 4 (and therefore have to say that NCC was a better team last year).....PUH.....FRICKIN'.....PLEASE!

As a Mount fan, I would more than welcome NCC coming to Mount for a regional/semi-final game.....welcome to the machine!

You do realize (actually I think NCC fans don't quite get it) that Mount has been in the Stagg Bowl the last 14 out of 18 years.....right?  Until you have been there and done that a few times, you really don't know.

IF NCC were to climb that proverbial and literal Mountain, and beat Mount in the semi-final/Stagg, then I would say CONGRATS!  But then again....do it for the next ummm......(let's see...UWW has done it the last six)...."few" years...and then we will talk.

The few UWW posters, and most of the NCC posters annointing NCC as the new/improved top 2 or 3, I guess we will see in a few weeks.  PLAYOFFS......hell yah!

Mr. Ypsi

^^ A sign of NCC's arrival! ;D

A UMU poster needs to come over here to chest-thump! 8-)

With all due respect to Mount Union....As a UWW fan, having seen both NCC and Mount play first hand against Whitewatwer, it was just most UWW fans' opinoins that NCC was a better team last season. I would just like to see how Mount will do in the playoffs when having to go through the North. It won't exactly be a cake walk like Mount has going through the east each year.

This would be my dream playoff scenario:
Whitewater land in the West to take on the winner of Linfield and St. Thomas, while Mount will go up against NCC in the north. However, that's just a pipe dream, and will never happen.

I know the NCAA doesn't use the fan poll or the d3football.com poll as input, but looking at the top 9 in both polls made me think that the following playoff placements would be nice.  And except for the Southwest Airlines bracket, I think they're all driveable:

East:  UMU (2) and Wesley (7)
North:  UWW (1) and Wabash (8 or 9)
West:  UST (3) and NCC (6)
Southwest (Airlines):  UMHB (4), Linfield (5), CLU (8 or 9)

I just found out today that when my dad went to the NCC/Wheaton game last weekend (b/c he lives in Lombard), he wore his purple Whitewater pull-over. I guess some fans were giving him crap for it (which I don't blame them).

People were also asking if he was there as a UWW scout.

What a trouble maker  8-)

If the bracket arrangements of the past are any indication, unless Mt is put in the West or the South (not happening most likely), they will still not have to face multiple top ranked teams in a long playoff run because the East typically doesn't contain a "national championship contender" other than Mt (not meant as disrespect to the East, it's just the ways it's been of late).  I would love to see the committee figure out a way to place 2 of the top 8 in each region.  I know there are lots of problems with that, starting with- who is #8?

Skunk --

Thank you for the reality check.  It is easy to get ahead of ourselves at times given all the progress we have seen made by several of the teams in the CCIW (especially including NCC, IWU, and WC) over the past ten years, coupled with the legacy of the great AC teams from the 1980s.

Your post reminded of an article that I just read about how the NCC men's cross country team had just won its 38th consecutive CCIW championship (how many of you remember where you were in November 1974?).  So, I went over to see what the most NCAA websites to see what school held the most NCAA Championships for a specific sport in DIII and found some interesting facts:  Kenyon College won 31 consecutive NCAA championships in swimming and diving (1980-2010); UWL won 15 NCAA championships in indoor track and field (1987-2009); NCC won 13 NCAA championships in cross country (1975-2010); and Hobart College won 13 NCAA championships in lacrosse (1980-1993).  All of these, and Mount Union's run of 10 NCAA championships in football (1992-2010) are phenomenal.  Can any of the posters recall any other dominant DIII teams?

1.  I don't "have to say NCC was better", I choose to say it.  I saw them both in person- did you?
2.  I don't know that 2011 NCC is better than 2010 NCC- I suspect they are not.  IMO 2010 NCC beats 2010 Mt.  Like UWW, NCC shuts down the MT run game.
3.  Until you've been there a few times you don't know what?
4.  Why does NCC have to beat Mt more than this year?  Was somebody challenging Mt's storied tradition?  I thought we were talking about last year's teams and this year's playoff matchups.
5.  Hopefully we will see a NCC vs Mt matchup this year.  Other than Wesley in 2009- it would be nice to see Mt have to play a top ranked team in the playoffs.

Stagg--

I'm glad to see that you are back on the board.  I understand that you have been quite busy.

And, while I love all this playoff talk--can we focus on this weekend's game against NPU for a bit?  I know that everyone is treating it as if victory is a forgone conclusion, but what if someone forgets to tell the Vikings that they have no chance? :o

I look forward to your always brillant analysis.

Kalamazoo College's men's tennis team has won the (MIAA) conference title EVERY year since 1936 (they shared the title, with Hope, only twice in those 65 seasons)!  National tourneys did not occur until 1976; Kazoo has won 7 times, and from 1976-1999 ALWAYS finished in the top ten, usually the top five.  (They seem to have fallen from national-contender status since 2000.)
