In regards to at-large bids (which the CCIW typically earns depending on the 2nd place teams record), would the team receiveing the at-large always play a higher ranked team in the first round, thereby making the game an automatic away game?

disclaimer: This is not to say I beleive that IWU has the bid wrapped up, there is still one last weekend of games to be played, and as we all know anything can change in one weekend of CCIW football.

Should IWU win this weekend vs. Augie, finish and 9-1 and get a Pool C invite, does anyone have an idea of where/who they might play?  Is a home game in the cards?  Just ask'in.

All the talk here about NCC, MT. and UWW etc. makes it sound like there are not other good teams in the DIII tourney mix.  Can't quite be true, heh?

Titans have played ugly, played lucky the last two weeks.  I saw both games.  We were fortunate to get to 8-1, mostly still on the strength of good D and just enough opportune offense.  The running game is just so paltry.

Last home game, so we'll say goodbye to an good bunch of seniors, alot of dedicated Titan athletes.

Wintry blast here today, very cold, but it's supposed to be sunny and in the high 50s on Saturday, pretty good for the final regular season game in mid-November.

UWH? Is that the University of Wisconsin at Hayward? I'll bet that they have a heckuva good cross-country skiing team. ;) ;D

More like reality checking.   ;)
Skunk --

Thank you for the reality check.  It is easy to get ahead of ourselves at times given all the progress we have seen made by several of the teams in the CCIW (especially including NCC, IWU, and WC) over the past ten years, coupled with the legacy of the great AC teams from the 1980s.

Your post reminded of an article that I just read about how the NCC men's cross country team had just won its 38th consecutive CCIW championship (how many of you remember where you were in November 1974?).  So, I went over to see what the most NCAA websites to see what school held the most NCAA Championships for a specific sport in DIII and found some interesting facts:  Kenyon College won 31 consecutive NCAA championships in swimming and diving (1980-2010); UWL won 15 NCAA championships in indoor track and field (1987-2009); NCC won 13 NCAA championships in cross country (1975-2010); and Hobart College won 13 NCAA championships in lacrosse (1980-1993).  All of these, and Mount Union's run of 10 NCAA championships in football (1992-2010) are phenomenal.  Can any of the posters recall any other dominant DIII teams?
NCC has also won 9 NCAA championships in Track & Field(indoor & outdoor) since 1989.  Most recently, they've won 4 consecutive titles (indoor and outdoor in 2010 and 2011).

And the track team always has several football players on the roster as well.

Assuming both win on Saturday, I'd say it is better than 50-50 that IWU and Franklin tangle in the 'North' 4/5 game.  Several other prognosticators agree, we just aren't quite certain where the game would be played!  Franklin will certainly be ahead of IWU in the Regional ranking, but there is speculation that (given the limited amount of data available in a ten-game season) the national committee is much more open to counting ALL results for seeding purposes.  If so, Franklin and IWU would both be 9-1, but IWU has the vastly higher SOS (currently 19th vs. 217th).  If forced to bet on it, I'd go with B'town, but neither location would surprise me.

Very intersting article, looking forward to part two and more about the FCA side of the program. Can't say enough about FCA and the impact it has on the player's lives.

I heard UWH has an outstanding fishing team. They usually fare very well at the annual NCAA Musky Tournament.  ;D

All of these non-CCIW posters here. Goodness. It must be near playoff time.

As far as the NCC being a top 2 in the nation. I believe purple remains the color of royalty and you can only get yourself some of that in Salem.

On a more important note, what does everyone here think of the situation at PSU? There are a lot of opinions out there and the situation has become bigger than almost any story in NCAA athletic history?

Nice article.

Great article. Makes me look at the NCC football program in a whole different light. (Apropos of nothing, I worked with Gary Ireland when he was the registrar at NPU.)

The Penn State situation is sickening.  I'm glad they decided to fire Paterno immediately.  They should've fired them all!  There is no way something like that doesn't get out in some form.  Way more people were aware of this and that will all come out.

I strongly agree with Cardinal on the PSU situation.  There is much more to come out and Penn State is going to be dealing with the reputational and legal fall-out of this case for many years to come.  Sad to see JoPa not go out in a honorable way, given the many good things he's done for his players, program and his university, but he surely missed the moral call on this one bigtime.

An important lesson, the university (the overall educational and institutional mission and interest) is always bigger than any athletic program or personage.  Seems the Penn State President and senior administrators in this case didn't adher to this truth for many years.  Now a heavy price to be paid by all involved, including sadly the otherwise good name of Penn State University.

You can get some of that royalty before Stagg- all it takes is a playoff victory against one of them.

As for Joe Pa- I will wait until all info is out. However, I will ask, how many people out there would directly call the police on a 20+ year friend?
