Quote from: sac on November 11, 2011, 12:57:09 AMAs a matter of fact, one of the reasons Mr. Curley and Mr. Schultz were arraigned on criminal charges is because their answers to questions did not match McQuerry's.  They seemed to know more than Paterno was told and they were really the ones who should have contacted police.

Sorry, sac, but you're just plain wrong about that. Anyone who has knowledge of a sexual assault should contact police -- especially when the victim is a child (i.e., someone who is not at personal liberty and who is highly unlikely to report the crime him- or herself).

by 'should have contacted police', I meant Schultz and Curley were obligated by law because of their positions in the University (pointed out in the grand jury report).  I wasn't even considering the moral duty to do so of Paterno, McQuerry, etc. That is just kind of a given, but not by law as its written.

Penn State should not have had to fire Paterno. Paterno should have quit the minute the story broke. Didn't anyone in his circle of friends have the sense to advise him to get out.

He's the head coach. He selects his staff and his assistants are his employees. Paterno is responsible for everything that occurred in the program.

There was a suggestion on a news show last night that the Pennsylvania media (and University) have been sitting on this story all year. They waited until after Paterno broke the record for career wins until the story was released. In that case, the media is also morally decrepit.

They don't know if McQueary will coach from the field or press box this weekend. That only keeps his name in the news. I would think he would want to just disappear.

I only hope that no bowl invites Penn State. Playing in a bowl game only prolongs the story.

But it punishes the players who had nothing to do with the scandal, especially the seniors who will be playing their final home game this Saturday.

Isn't that what NCAA sanctions do anyway? Punish current players for the acts of past players?

I'm only talking about this year's seniors. For them, this is it. The underclassman can choose to leave after the NCAA determines Penn State's sanctions, the seniors have only a few games left.

As I understand it, the only reason McQueary hasn't been hammered is because he is now a "witness". he is the eyewitness that allows legal proceedings against all of the PSU officials. If they exorcise him, his lawyer tells him to be quiet and it is very difficult to connect the dots on who said what to whom and when. Sandusky is toast because of the mountain of evidence outside of McQueary. but Curley, Spanier, and JoePa are only tied to this through McQueary so they choose to give him "immunity" so they can retain the option of action against the others. it's not right or fair, but it is a legal strategy they are going with it seems.

Sadly, I don't think the seniors are ever going to reflect back positively on their college football experience.

I can't believe the team will be mentally prepared to play.

I'm concerned too how this will impact other sports. What kind of reception will the basketball team receive at hostile arena, or women's sports teams?

GS, I think long time friendships trump the story of a third party-initially.

Gator, It's interesting you posed that question.  My 12 year old daughter has a goal of playing volleyball at Penn State.  She and I were talking last night and she was worried what would happen to her "dream" school because of all of this.

Maybe send her to Illinois? They beat PSU in straight sets tonight and swept the season series  ;D

That's a whole lot better idea for a lot of reasons- thanks for the ammo.

SJU fan here. Just a heads-up for Whitewater fans - and, really, humanity in general - but I did a little Q&A with Pat and we had quite a bit of WW talk. And let's look at a clip now, Johnny.

The answer to the second question should be of interest to NCC fans.

I'll be going on the air for NPU's final game of the season today, so if you'd rather hear me than the WONC guys, please feel free to click in from the NPU football page (nothing personal, WONC guys!). I'll be working without my partner Rob Dubicz today, so I'll take this opportunity to thank him for being a great partner this season. The games haven't turned out the way we'd like, but we've had a lot of fun doing this. Thanks to everyone who's tuned in to listen to us this season!

Another huge game for Garret Meador.

Through 3 quarters:
24 of 33 for 420 yards, 4 TD's, 1 INT

That without Mark Hiben today.

The game in Naperville went pretty much according to form, NCC beating NPU, 35-0. The gap in terms of talent and depth was pretty evident throughout, although NPU certainly played hard and the Vikes were as competitive as anyone could possibly expect in an 0-6 @ 6-0 contest. Aside from a busted tackle in which the Vikings had Nick Kukuc stopped in the backfield but didn't wrap him up -- whereupon he bounced outside and ran up the left sideline for a 69-yard TD -- and a blown pitch from Evan Rhoads to Nathan Lawler that turned into a NCC 30-yard fumble recovery TD, the Vikings really didn't do anything egregiously bad today. They were simply outmanned.

NPU moved the ball well on the ground, racking up 264 yards rushing. As has been the case throughout the second half of the season, Matt Hassan was the big gainer today, rushing for 132 yards. Rhoads and Jon Williams split the duties at QB today in the continued absence of the injured Tyler Krebs. Williams is improving; he might push Krebs for the starting job next season.

Long day here in Naperville. The Vikings took some good steps forward this year. Just gotta build upon that and break through next year, especially since NPU should have seven offensive starters and nine defensive starters returning.

Best of luck to the Cardinals and Titans next week.

Titans over Augie, 34-12.  Titans were very sharp and this one was pretty much over by half, with IWU ahead 27-0.  Gallik looked very sharp along with his many targets.  IWU D was as good as usual.  We'll see now on the playoff spot.  Hard to imagine an Augie team and 2-8.  This game was also filled with penalties, pretty chippy at the end with lots of personal fouls and unsportsmanlike flags.  The Titan running game had a bit stronger day than usual too, esp. Connelly.  Good to have a strong win going into the playoffs, if that is to be.

IWU70

IWU women's soccer went out in OT, 2-1.
