In discussing the upcoming game against IWU, I mentioned on the midwest board about a JV game that was played between IWU and MC two or three years ago.  I remember a kid from IWU getting a serious compound fracture during that game.  I know everybody associated with that game really felt for the kid because he was in obvious agony.  Just wanted to know if anyone remembered that and how the kid made out.  Hopefully he recovered to have a good career.  About the game on Saturday I don't think there is as big as disparity in talent between these teams as many might think. I really believe the strength of your conference is a big plus for you guys as you see teams with talent equal or better than ours every week. I think the key to the game is how well MC O-line protects Tanney. St. Norberts D sounds like the only thing close to IWU's defense they've played and 10 pts was all they scored that day.  On another note it seems most of IWU's roster come from players from larger high schools while with a few exceptions a lot of MC's players come from smaller schools, not that it will make any difference in the outcome on Saturday.

I expected NCC to be a #3 seed. I expected them to have a potential 2nd round matchup with Wabash, and a potential 3rd round matchup with Mount Union or UWW. I would have preferred UWW since it's closer.

But, the shape of the full bracket is unlike anything we've seen. Is this a one year thing or will the bracket be structured like this going forward. It would also be nice to know the criteria that was used to include unranked (in the D3football Top 25) SJF over other 1 or 2 loss teams, such as Wheaton.

I know the NCAA's position but it still bothers me that the 32 teams includes 2 MWC teams, a 6-4 team (ALbion), and a team that can't beat any CCIW team.

Anyone can see what an easy draw UWW was given. All the teams that could beat UWW (Mount Union, Linfield, MHB, NCC) are in the opposite bracket.

IL Gator,

I would argue the only team that "could" beat UWW is UMU (based on history) and they have been in the other bracket each of the past several years. Wheaton never got considered as they were stuck behind Case. The way I would modify the process is allow the national committee to rank the pool C teams vs simply following the regional committees rankings. The regional committees are clearly applying the criteria differently and it creates the kind of inefficiency we saw this year. In the east, the regional committee ranked StJF ahead of 1 loss Endicott but the North committee kept Case behind Wheaton. That is why they were not at the table together, in which case Wheaton may well have been selected over StJF.

As far as Albion, and the MWC, its an open access tournament and I don't think you will find many who want that to change. The beauty of it is you can win your conference and have a shot at the big boys. You see the same thing in the NCAA basketball tournament. How many times do we need a Davidson, or James Madison to make the sweet 16 to understand the beauty of that type of tournament. If you are Wheaton (which I am) or Baldwin Wallace, or any other 2 loss team it's simple, don't lose 2 games.

This year, there will be two Stagg Champions.  ;D ;D ;D

Joe Paterno's name has been removed from the Big Ten's championship football trophy, according to CBS Sports.

"We believe that it would be inappropriate to keep Joe Paterno's name on the trophy at this time," Big 10 commissioner Jim Delany said, according to CBS. "The trophy and its namesake are intended to be celebratory and aspirational, not controversial. We believe that it's important to keep the focus on the players and the teams that will be competing in the inaugural championship game."

Paterno was recently dismissed by Penn State University last week after coaching for the past 61 years. The school's board of directors made the decision to let Paterno go after the public became outraged that the legendary coach knew about accusations of child molestation by Jerry Sandusky and failed to report the incidents to state police.

The trophy will now reportedly be called the Stagg Championship Trophy, named in honor of Amos Alonzo Stagg, a former head football coach at the University of Chicago. Stagg compiled nearly 200 wins between 1892 and 1932.

I was going to come down for the game, but am still not sure if I will be able to make it. My question: has anyone watched a game via nctv17.com? How is the stream?

I watched a little of the Wheaton game on it. It's gotten better since last year's Whitewater game.

ILGator, you beat me to it.  Can d3 sue the Big Ten for copyright infringement?! ;D

The North Central athletic complex will be a busy place Saturday with NCC hosting Dubuque on the football field in Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium at noon, and the annual basketball Tip Off Tourney going on next door in Merner Fieldhouse with women's games at noon and 5:00, and men's games at 2:30 and 7:30.

At least we can all agree that this is better than the BCS System.

I am always fascinated by the talks during the season over this topic.  So much outrage over the course of the season as there are 5-6 teams undefeated, however, with the exception of a couple of years, I think the BCS has always resulted in the best two teams playing for the National Championship.  Simply look at this weekend with Stanford and Boise State losing.

I would prefer a playoff system.  With that being said, of the 13 years of the BCS, I can only think of two or three years in which there was a question of whether or not the top 2 teams played for the National Championship.

I totally agree with you about the nice draw UWW got. Although, I'm not passing on St. Thomas being a team that can beat UWW. B/c they are very good.

Looks like Mount has a similar road to the Stagg Bowl that UWW had last season. Although, they don't have to play NCC on the road. I can't wait for that matchup.

Titan fans - Looking ahead to Saturday's pre-game festivities, is there a designated tailgate area?  I didn't see a policy on the IWU site, but saw in there was a designated spot just east of the field in '09 when IWU hosted Wabash...same set-up this year?

thanks - FS13

Good question, FS13.  I was curious about the IWU pre-game festivities and policies as well and mentioned the same thing over on the MWC Board, but haven't seen any response yet.  We all know the tailgating is the important stuff anyways. :D

Regarding seeding, etc. It has been mentioned on other boards that the locations of the home field for the 2nd round games and beyond have not been set yet (i.e. if NCC and Wabash win, it's not a sure thing that Wabash would host). Anyone have any insight on this?

Whilst it would be great to have NCC house the 2nd round game, it doesn't seem to me that there should be this confusion. It seems pretty obvious that Wabash is the #2 in the "bottom right" bracket and NCC is #3, which would mean Wabash gets home field for a potential 2nd round matchup.

I don't want to look past Dubuque and their offense, though. Anyone have any thoughts on the game? Is this going to be like the St. Norbert game of last year where a team from a "lesser" conference comes to NCC and gets dismantled? Or does Dubuque have a shot? Every time I hear about a team with an explosive offense I immediately revert back to the Chad Rupp/Franklin vs NCC memories. Those aren't good ones.
