Amen!!!! Thank you for serving!  +k

Off the subject of football. My thoughts and prayers go out to the family of the victims of the plane crash and to the Wheaton College community for you tragic loss.

Saturday was a tough loss and I'm sorry NCC wasn't able to advance to play Mt Union and possibly in the Stagg Bowl- and represent the CCIW.  I have been on the NCC bandwagon for a while- I actually had the game on the laptop while in the tailgate tent at UWW.  I missed some of the UWW 3rd period to watch the ending, hoping for a NCC defensive stop.  Which brings me to this question.
Did anybody look at the play of the week on the D3 home page?  It's the two-point conversion.  I'm curious to know whether you feel NCC was in a Man or Zone coverage, or some combination.  The NCC safety, #17, doesn't play the slot receiver like the other two defenders play their "man".  Considering how close the ball was to the goal line, that slot receiver was wide open.

I think 1 of 2 things could have happened. Either the safety was misaligned in man coverage since he was 6-7 yards deep in the end zone OR the LB got too occupied with jamming the inside WR. I think they were playing zone judging from the safety's steps as well as the other LBs steps. It looks like the outside backer should have dropped to cover the quick stick/out route of the #2 receiver. Just my 2 cents

I think that is what happened as well; the LB was way to occupied with #3, although with the game on the line I would want a great jam on the #3 WR too. I'm assuming in a perfect world the OLB would jam #3 and continue to drop into the flats (MLB would have picked up the slant), since the there was no threat underneath his drop, he would most likely continue to drop; which would have put him right where #2 was. I think the FS got caught looking at QB.

I'm thinking NCC is in cover 4. I think if they were in man they would be in cover 1 which means there would be another DB  on the Trips side. There is only 3 defenders on the Trips side which would mean there is 2 defenders on the single WR side. Unless they played a Cover 2 on the backside and Man or Cover 0 on the front side.

Either way what a sickening way to end your season; tipped pass on a 2-pt conversion. Congratulations to the Cards and the Green Weenies for representing the CCIW well in the playoffs. The dream to watch NCC in the national championship will again be put to sleep.... until next year....

I think NCC was definitely in cover 4

While I sort of share your sentiments, going a collective 1-2 in the playoffs is NOT what I was counting on for 'representing the CCIW well'! :P  My d3photography.com bracket had them going 7-2!  (Needless to say, I don't even bother checking my standing anymore! :-[)

lol... yeah, I hear you on that: NC in the finals and IWU in the semi's....

Nonetheless, I still think they represented the CCIW well, two heartbreakers at the end of the game. Both games could have gone the other way.

Wow can hear the circkets chirping.... :)
I would like to offer congratulations to Garrett Meador on being named Offensive player of year for North region.  For someone who was slated as the #2 qb and then taking over for the injured Roberts that really defines the term of stepping in and up to receive such an honor.
Here is his stat line:
PASSING              GP   Effic    Cmp-Att-Int    Pct   Yds    TD Lng Avg/G
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Meador, Garrett      10  156.60  227-348-7   65.2 2852  28  62 285.2

Mr. Ypsi

Congratulations to those CCIW players who made the d3 all-region team!  I'd be even more sincere if a Titan (9-2) made the first OR second team.  ONE Titan on the third team?!

Congratulations to Ryan Jenkins, but it is a bit of a joke when ONE player off a 9-2 playoff team makes the THIRD team all-region.  Man, I guess they really played over their heads!  A presumed 2-8 team gone and went 9-1! :P

(My apologies, Pat, but how the hell could this happen?  Were they SO balanced that 21 players would have made the fourth team?  This just defies common sense.)

Pat Coleman

You should start with the All-CCIW team. You only had four first-teamers. Doesn't translate to a lot of All-Region picks.

By contrast, North Central had 11 first-team All-CCIW picks.

Agreed on the congrats to everyone. Meador had a great year.

I don't understand how Jenkins is on the 3rd team and Gresko is MIA all together.

And to Pat's point, 4 first team CCIW players probably translates to more than 1 All-Region guy on the 3rd team.

Was Chris Peterson doing this voting? Haha

I think the lack of all region picks for IWU are a testament to the fact that most folks thought they were the 3rd best team in the CCIW by regular season's end.  Only 9 all conference picks compared to 11 for Wheaton and 15 I believe for NCC.  Credit to the coaching staff for getting a 9-2 record from that squad.  Not a lot of superstar players just a solid team.

So I guess I'll bring it up since nobody else has...what was up with Studebaker's little scuffle during the second quarter of the Bears game on that field goal try? Looked like he didn't stop for a few extra steps after everybody else did once they blew the play dead on the penalty.

Ha.  Maybe one day NCC will be lucky enough to get a player (let alone 2) into the NFL.  I still think its the neatest thing in the world having somebody that I played against playing on Sundays.

Pete Bulandr - NCC

Since Garrett Meador is not on the roster, I wonder if that means he will be coming back for his 5th year as rumored earlier?
