J.D. East - Wheaton
Pete Bulandr - NCC

Since Garrett Meador is not on the roster, I wonder if that means he will be coming back for his 5th year as rumored earlier?

Answer to your question. From Wheaton's website article on the end of the year football banquet...
"The team captains for the 2012 season were also announced – quarterback Garrett Meador, tailback Peter Jarrett, linebacker Pat Dansdill and linebacker Sam VanHeest."

Absolutely.  In 2010, from my eye test, Roberts clearly was the better QB and had that special something that is hard to quantify.  However, with Meador being the starter for the entire season and IMO improving throughout, especially in the area of consistency, it should be a battle.   Good problem to have though.

Very nice "problem" to have, will be interesting to see if they are both used depending on the situation.Looking forward to 2012 already, however, it will be a long 9 months until football season begins (and hopefully has a much better ending for the Cards ) ;D

Desertraider

I have been watching ESPN2 all day and the ticker at the bottom for NCAAF has the Div.1 FCS semi-finals with times - but nothing on the game tonight. Thanks for nothing ESPN. Even if you are not a fan of either team make it a D3 football event. Remember that one day your team will be in the Stagg and you will want networks to cover it - lets give them some ratings so that can happen. If you don't watch the game thats fine - just turn it on. Maybe if the ratings are decent ESPN will stop moving the game to friday (a TV dead zone!) or moving to a smaller ESPN network so they can show some damn Poker tournament! Even if you not a fan of the teams playing - we are all fans of DIII football!

I think you're right about Roberts.  He has the unquantifiable attributes that really lead to wins: decision making,  pocket presence, and creativity to extend drives (all while being an accurate passer).  Then there is Meador coming off a campaign where he put up huge numbers and was North Region Offensive Player of the Year.  How can you argue with that?

I think if you send these guys to a combine or skills camp, Meador is the guy (better arm, size and similar foot speed).  What good coaches can find is the QB that can win.   I really don't know who that will be, but I certainly hope they pick the one guy.   I am firmly against rotating QBs.

every time I think d3.com gets it right they make questionable moves with All America picks...
The Cortland QB as an HM All America over Meador?  He wasn't even the POY in region (McSweeney) and didn't have the numbers Meador had...especially against the CCIW...they missed that one bad.

Then they pick a Benedictine DL over Jenkins, Garza, Hates, East or Ramsay?  uninformed

McSweeny wasn't in the same region as Cortland.

The Benedictine DL has CCIW roots. He's capable against high-caliber competition.

It was a really tight call on that last QB spot. Pitcher was sacked least often and threw the fewest interceptions (one per 71 attempts as opposed to one in 50) and had similar yards per attempt. The NJAC is a quality defensive conference, so those are legitimate numbers.

What do the old salts think about the 2012 season? Early predictions?

As I did after the end of the 2010 season, I worry about the reloading ability of NCC. Wheaton should be really tough in 2012, and Elmhurst has been on the come.

Well, if the outcome is a step or two better than 2011, they will be fine in 2012. Those first two games will give you a very good idea of their ability to make it 7 consecutive cciw championships and a deep play-off run.

As we've seen over the past several seasons, you can't ever count out IWU.  If you would have told me at the beginning of the year the Titans would have gone 9-1 and made the playoffs I would have probably thought you were wearing green glasses, drinking green kool-aid and owed money to Mr. Ypsi.  Granted in 2012 the Titans have to play at both Wheaton and NCC, but we've seen them surprise us before.

In this conference, I don't think you can count out any of the recent top four. I thought IWU would be decent this year and with NC having to play an undefeated Titan squad  on the road, at Homecoming no less, well, I was just a little worried that week. I think 2012 will be another great year for the CCIW, but hopefully  with much better results in the post season.

Yeah Meador threw for more yards and had a higher completion percentage plus more "big" games.  Plus the ultimate honor for an All America resume in that he was player of the year in a region where many of the previous players of year were NFL hopefuls.....I'm not sure any of the CCIW Dlineman would have gotten chewed up against NPU, Kzoo and Wisc. Lutheran.  Pat doesn't like to admit when he's wrong.
