I agree with the sentiments!  Alas, mine was not so good.

My father died this morning.  He was 93, but the passing was still 'out of the blue'.  He had a very good life: he enjoyed the heck out of his children, grandchildren, and greatgrandchildrren, and as late as his 70s probably could have still 'tanned my hide' if he thought it necessary! ;D

The world lost a very good man today.  I will probably be absent from the boards for awhile.

Sorry for your loss. My Dad has been gone 23 years now and there are moments when I still miss him greatly.  I trust you will find some comfort and remember good times in the coming days.

Completely agree.  Both my parents and in-laws are gone now, and every so often, out of the blue, something will remind me of one of them and I will be sad. The hardest days are the milestone days-births, graduations and the wedding of their first grandchild last year.

Mr. Ypsi:

My sincerest sympathy to you and your family.  I will be keeping you in thought and prayer.  Sounds like your father was a very good man.  I lost my father 4 years ago last month (and mom about 1 1/4 year prior to that) so I know exactly how you feel.  My father was the most honest man I've ever met (yes, I know I am biased in that regard because of his being my father, however, it is true that he was that way and many, many of his peers, colleagues, friends, etc. have said that).  At any rate, although we all know that time is inevitable, even when one's parents are in their very late years as was your father, it still is never easy.  That is obvious, yet, I will leave you (and our friends here who have also gone through the experience) with this:  think simply of only the good times you shared with him and also what will sustain you is that you will see him again someday - those thoughts and that knowledge of the truth is what has sustained me).  God Bless and take it one day at a time.  We understand your being away from these boards for awhile; we'll await your return when you decide it is time.  Take care, my friend.

Best,
former

Sorry to hear about your dad, Chuck. :-\ 93 though, wow. What a long rich life. I will be lucky if my dad makes it to 70.

I just stumbled on this article in my twitter. The guys in the Wheaton photo are obviously football players. Anyone know who they are?

I've told this story once or twice before over in the CCIW basketball room -- so, if you've read it before, please don't accuse me of being as bad about constantly retelling the same story over and over as iwu70 is ;) -- but I've been aware for decades now that Wheaton's food service is amazing. There used to be a tradition back in the '70s and '80s that, prior to the North Park @ Wheaton basketball game, North Park students would get to Wheaton's campus early and eat in their dining hall. The point of this was to rev up the NPC students for the game and, simultaneously, offend the Wheaton students, because the unofficial rules were: a) you had to wear North Park clothing; and b) you weren't supposed to use silverware. Gross behavior was not only encouraged, it was borderline mandatory. I think that the general idea was lifted from the famous "I'm a zit! Get it?" dining hall scene in Animal House. (You haven't lived until you've made a table full of Wheaton coeds go "Eeeeewww!")

Anyway, every stinkin' year we'd go to Wheaton's dining hall before that game and it would be Steak Night. Now, North Park had Steak Night, too ... but it was only fortnightly, on every other Thursday evening, and the steaks were tiny, gristly, and flavorless. Wheaton always had steak on hand whenever we showed up, no matter which night the NPC @ WC game happened to be that year, and it was always big, juicy, tasty T-bones.

Jim Matson, a long-time poster here who is now the d3soccer.com guru, was a student at Wheaton at the same time that I was at North Park. I said to him at a game about a decade ago, "Jim, what was the deal with Steak Night at Wheaton? Every time that we showed up in your dining hall before the North Park @ Wheaton game you had these magnificent steaks. Every single time! We only got steak once every other week at the Park, and our steaks were terrible. What's up with that?"

He just smiled and said, "Greg, it's too bad that you never showed up on Lobster Night."

Haha, I have totally heard this story before. You are getting old Greg. ;)

I heard at some point that the create your own waffle stations got waffle irons with the thunder logo on it. Someone needs to report back with pictures if this awesomeness is actually true.
