When I played, I was part of a 68 player freshmen recruiting class. By the time we reached Senior Day, there were 15 of us. For many years, this was pretty much the norm. You'd have an occasional year with 10 or 20, but those were exceptions. Last year, NCC had a very large senior class. I attribute that to two reasons. NCC is doing more targeted recruiting - better players at positions of need. And, they are playing more players. Lots of substitutions on offense, lots of rotations on defense. Playing time keeps kids around. Third and even fourth team players know they are not far from getting quality playing time.

I believe it was a WIAC issue.

It's not just a WIAC issue though. UW-Madison dropped men's baseball several years ago for the same reason. They are the only Big Ten team not to field a men's baseball team.

Paul Plinske (UWW AD) said this in 2010:

When I came to Whitewater, we had very strong men's programs, but there had been two Title IX complaints and the chancellor wanted to solve this problem. At the time, our enrollment was about 52 percent female and the athletic opportunities were 44 percent female.

To start, the coaches of male teams agreed to reduce their roster numbers, and the female programs agreed to add junior varsity competition. We submitted a proposal to the chancellor and he decided to also provide some financial assistance to help with staffing and additional travel costs.

Interesting, this sounds like a UWW issue rather than a WIAC issue. Maybe the WIAC as a whole was in a similar situation.

Fifteen to twenty has been the norm, except for last year. Even with more kids in the rotations players leave (or are dismissed) for several reasons. I'm not so sure 37 seniors will ever become "the norm".

WI dropped baseball almost two decades ago.  Also, not sure what Plinske's comment means because UWW still does not meet Title IX's proportionality prong.  Therefore, imposing a cap on football is utterly meaningless in the context of his comment about enrollment.  I posted this in June in the basketball section:

Here is an article that quotes former Wisconsin AD, Pat Richter, who explains why the Badgers dropped baseball.  As usual, money was the real reason, not Title IX.

Dlip feels for the kid, hopefully he can find somewhere to play. Dlip doesn't think they should let him play in a league with a weight limit of 130 pounds though. Other kids will get homogenized. Hopefully something will work out for the big guy.
He canehis junior high team. he doesn't want  to do that. Some people want the league to abandon the wt. limit rule. I don't think they should.
Some friends and I were on the way to a fantasy football draft Saturday and this story came on the radio. That was the first I had heard that the kid still has an option to play with kids his own age at his Jr High, just not in his PeeWee league.

Once I heard that it all became a non-story to me. He can still play with kids his own age, if that was not the case then there would be some debate to be had.

My biggest problem with all of this is the PeeWee coach who told the kid he should play for his team, had him practicing and everything. He knew damn well they weren't going to let the kid play. Why even ask him to play?
Did they ask him or did he just come out with his friends? But, you're right, they should have told the kid he is too big at 295 to be playing in a PeeWee league.

According to the story on the radio, the coach saw him when he was with friends and said he should play on his team. Kid started working out with the team, etc.

Don't know about you guys, but I can tell the difference between 297 lbs and 130 lbs (the league weight limit) without a scale!

Easily, even knowing they let bigger players play the line only(I'm sure they don't get too many players over 175), that kid could not be a d-lineman in a 130 lb league! Imagine the poor running backs that he would flatten! :)
