LETS ROLL

Well, I couldn't have been more wrong, predicting a solid second half for Wheaton. They were pathetic on both sides of the ball. No scores in the entire second half? Couldn't stop them when it mattered most? No rally when the game was on the line?

Doesn't sound like Wheaton Football.

The thunder need to grow some stones and figure this thing out. While Albion played a great football game today, Wheaton can't afford losses like this if they expect to remain a top-tier team. Extremely disappointing day for the Blue and Orange.

First congratulations to Albion.
You are absolutely right Mugsy.  Losing the offensive line coach from last year hurt us.  Pass blocking was our strength last year.  Now we will get to see how this team rebounds.  Are they CCIW ready?

USee

I watched much of the game online. Huge win for Albion. The better team won today.  Albion w 172 Yda rushing and 8 sacks.  Wheaton won't have any quarterbacks left at this rate. The Brits are better than I thought and at this point Wheaton is in for a long year.

Final from Bloomington...

IWU 53
Alma 7

http://www.iwusports.com/custompages/Football/FB2012/HTML/iwufb2.htm

* Rob Gallik (QB): 4 TD passes
* Tate Musselman (WR): 3 TD catches

IWU led 10-7 at halftime, and the Titans outscored the Scots 43-0 in the 2nd half.

Hard to take much from this one since Alma is very weak, but I'm pretty confident IWU has enough talent on both sides of the ball to contend for the CCIW title.  The Titans have a very balanced offense, with a bunch of weapons.  QB Rob Gallik is very solid, RB T.J. Stinde has 1st Team All-CCIW ability, and the Titans are loaded at WR again.  On defense, despite losing a ton of starters and some great players, it seems like the Titans have inserted a bunch of new faces and reloaded.  On special teams, freshman kicker Michael Kelley is now 11-11 on PATs and 1-1 on FGA...an area the Titans have really struggled the last few years.

RB T.J. Stinde, who started the game despite dealing with an ankle injury suffered mid-week, was ineffective in the 1st half and did not play after halftime...he had ice on his ankle.  Hopefully he'll be OK - he is extremely important to IWU's offense.

It will be hard to really evaluate IWU until the CCIW schedule starts.  The Titans non-conference opponents (Aurora, Alma, and Hope) are pretty much cupcakes.

Augie6

Augie goes down to Central 17-10.  Defense played better, but offense couldn't get much going.  Had only about 60 yds of total offense midway through the 4th qtr. Converted a 4th and 10 play for a 58 yd TD with 5 minutes left, but were picked off on their last drive to end the game.  Looks like another long season in store for the Vikings.  If the Vikes finish with less than 4 wins this season (which looks highly likely) then Coach Cushman will have the honor of having the worst 2 year start to a head coaching tenure at Augie since Wally Swanson, who finished 5-11 in his first (and only) two seasons in 1923 and 1924.

To fans of D-3 football everywhere.  I am honored to have been asked to spread the word regarding a new cancer fund that has been established to help Tom Pattison, UW-W sports broadcaster and founder of www.warhawkfootball.com    I and my family know, all to well, how a cancer diagnosis can be devastating to a families daily lives and finances. Please, consider making even the smallest donation to Tom.

The following is an open letter by Retired UW-W Coach Bob Berezowitz:

Team Tom Cancer Fund Drive established

Once a Warhawk, always a Warhawk are the often spoken words by Tom Pattison, longtime "voice" of the Warhawks. Over the many years of broadcasting UW-Whitewater football, basketball and baseball games on KOOL 106.5 (and prior to that (940 WFAW), Tom has "bled purple" during each one of his broadcasts.

Unfortunately, on May 28, 2012 Tom was diagnosed with advanced stage 2 colon cancer. He underwent colorectal cancer surgery in Fort Atkinson and in the process has developed astronomical hospital and medical bills.

Tom has already gone through the first phase of radiation treatment at the UW Cancer Clinic along with chemotherapy with phase two starting later this month.

Tom has given his heart and soul to Warhawk athletics over his 25 years of living here in southern Wisconsin. He served six years as the president of the UW-Whitewater Quarterback Club and still serves on the club's board of directors.

In 2003 Tom founded Warhawkfootball.com where Warhawk fans, players, former players and parents have been able to view up-to-date Warhawk football news and information 365 days a year. Nearly 1.5 million visitors have clicked onto the Website over the years.

The Website that has been funded entirely by Tom has been a popular "voice" for Warhawk football fans not only locally but around the world.

Well now Tom needs your assistance in his battle with cancer.

With the help and leadership of UW-Whitewater Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Dr. Paul Plinke and former Warhawk football coach Bob Berezowitz and KOOL 106.5 Radio a team has been set up to lead a campaign to raise funds for Tom.

The "Team Tom Cancer Fund" has been established through Commercial Bank in Whitewater and is now accepting donations.

Donations may be sent to: Team Tom Cancer Fund, c/o Commercial Bank, 200 South Freemont St. Whitewater, WI 53190

The fund raising drive will also include Tom Pattison Day at Perkins Stadium on Oct. 6, 2012. More details will be announced shortly.

"I have known Tom for many years while coaching and now in retirement," Berezowitz said. "There is not another person who has given more of himself to help promote UW-Whitewater football. He is always writing articles for both past and present players that are published on his Website.

It is now our turn to say "thank you" for his efforts by considering making a donation to the to assist Tom in his time of need.

Go Warhawks,

Trine will most likely beat Elmhurst

31 - 13 Final Score.

Elmhurst was dominant this Saturday at Langhorst in what was our toughest non-conference test in more than a decade.  475 yards of total offense and Scottie goes for 230 and 2 tuddies on 35 carries.  Difference today was the experienced o-line and an opportunistic defense for the 'Jays.  Trine's QB kept the Thunder in the game with his legs, but the talent and depth of the 'Jays overwhelmed the MIAA challengers over 4 quarters Saturday afternoon.

It's always a great day to be a 'Jay! ;D

I would think this is all true, without a doubt. This is seriously one of the more surprising results I've seen across the nation in quite awhile.  Gut check time for the Thunder.

Was supposed to go to the Wheaton/Albion game, but mrs. matblake had something come up that she needed my help with.  Was surprised to hear the score.  Good job Albion.  Time to step it up Wheaton.

Glorious second half at Tucci/Wilder Field today.  Titans didn't play too too well in the first half, as Q has summarized, but second half was all Green, with many of the D and O assets, skills on full display.  Titans have a deep, talented team, that just keeps pounding you, keeps coming at you.  Gallik looked very sharp today and had many of his receivers in his accurate sights.  Hope Stinde is not badly hurt as he is very much needed.  Some sub running backs did a nice job today too.  Defense may be mainly nameless at this point, but they are doing a great job.  Today, they gave up some yards, but very few points, or big plays.  Four interceptions today and some really good hitting, including a bigtime hit on a kickoff return causing a fumble and TO.  Great stuff.  Kicking game and coverage game are much improved.  With these big scores, squads #2 and #3 are getting some very valuable minutes and starters are sitting by the fourth quarter, getting rest, preventing injuries.  Bye week now, so time to heal the nicks and scratches, get ready for Hope.  Surprised to see them go down to Millikin today, but there it is.  Titans could again be 3-0 in September.  I said earlier that we would perhaps put 60 on Alma, and probably could have, ending up with the 53-7 score.

A glorious sunny day, with perfect temps, lovely clouds, and a very nice big crowd filling up the main stadium seating area.  Always good to start with two big wins, with the good prospect of going 3-0 before CCIW play begins.  Titans surely look strong so far and WC and NCC look a bit more suspect than perhaps we would have thought two weeks ago.  Just sayin.

More to come, no doubt.

It really was impressive to see how the offensive line was just doing what it wanted against a very big athletic front of Trine. Scottie would just pick where he wanted to go and explode through. It was also good to see that the rumors are true and that another Williams will be tormenting the CCIW for years to come. I was also very impressed to see how much Furco has matured. There was not one bad decision. He would throw it away when nothing was there and when pressure came and there was an opportunity for a smart decision he made it. Defensively they shut down most of what Trine wanted to do and their QB really did try to will the rest of the Trine offense solely on him making unconventional plays with their feet. It was also impressive as I did not see a ton of blitzing by EC and played pretty vanilla and was still able to be opportunistic and not give up any big plays. A good omen for CCIW play.

Well our Cards come up with a big win 42-16! The Bulldogs pick up a late score on the 2's. Stanek 12 of 16 for 184 yards. Not a bad day. His stats  could have been better if he didn't throw the ball behind his receivers a couple of times in the 1st quarter. You could just see his confidence grow as the game went on. He made some really nice throws during the course of the night. Great play all night by the offense, defense AND special teams. Some great returns often set up the NCC offense. While the offensive yardage was almost identical, it sure didn't appear that way if you watched the game. The Cards looked pretty dominant after Redlands' first drive. We definitely out hit them. Hopefully UWL woke up the sleeping giant.

Big loss for Wheaton. Any idea when Meador will be back? Looks like he is really missed.

GO CARDS!!

The fourth quarter stats made the game look closer. Redlands had 184 yards by the end of the third quarter. NCC had 318 at the end of three quarters. In the fourth quarter with second and third string in for NCC, Redlands gained 134 yards and NCC had a net of zero in the fourth. The total numbers don't reflect how much the Cardinals dominated the second and third quarters in particular.

Agreed. The Cardinals took over after that first quick score. I thought at first this game might be a back and forth affair, but the Cards stepped up and took control. Much better execution this week, although there are always things to improve on. Cardinaldad, I'm pretty sure that UWL was a wake-up call.Looking forward to next week's WIAC challenge. Go cards!
