FOR ELMHURST I SEE:
AUGIE- W
CARTHAGE-W
IWU- L
MILLIKIN- W
NORTH CENTRAL- L
NORTH PARK-W
WHEATON- L
AND OF THE L'S LISTED, ONLY THE WHEATON GAME STRIKES ME A HIGH POTENTIAL FOR A W.

I think this has been the forecast for EC for the last 4 or 5 seasons. The problem is that it seems that every season one of the "W" games turns into a "L." Usee has written that EC could go 9-1. I respect Usee tremendously.  I also respect JB's forecast because he's always been an honest, straight shooter about his team. But once conference play starts, it starts quickly for EC - traveling to NCC. We'll know then if EC has a change to be competitive.
Usee has said a few times that EC could go 9-1, but who will they lose to: NC, Wheaton or IWU?

Yes   :-X

Has it already been that long?  Time flies.

Well I don't see NC losing a game in CCIW play.  Possibly against IWU and possibly against Wheaton if the Thunder has a full boat on hand.

IWU70- You must be a Cubs fan?   8-)  (I am too)  I was just a yr old the last time EC won a share of the conference so indeed it has been a long time since Elmhurst was even in the discussion of CCIW elite.

Actually I think I recall you saying that- maybe 2 1/2 years ago.  I hope Emma is doing great and has nothing to do with the terrible two's.

Jaybird, I'm a Yankee fan, thank you very much.  I don't have much hope for EC, but always want to cheer for the underdog a little bit.

Ypsi, IWU football @Hope this weekend.  Hope you can go and raise the Green Flag up there again.

Of course, NCC is still the favorite in football, 'til IWU or WC give them a better run for their long-held full or shared crown.  Looks like MU is also playing better than in past years, at least in pre-CCIW games.  Now comes the real test, when the key CCIW games start to be played.  Very much looking forward to it.  I think IWU has the tougher road this year, as NCC and WC games are away.  But, always a good incentive to ruin someone else's Homecoming weekend.  :)

Mr. Ypsi

iwu70, by game time on Saturday I should be approaching (or in) eastern South Dakota, on the way to 2 weeks in the Black Hills.  I definitely had the IWU@Hope game on my calendar, but it has been hectic this year and was the only time we could squeeze in a vacation before it got too cold.

As an insecure kid, I too was a front-running Yankees fan - I grew out of it! 8-)

Agree that NCC is still the boss until someone can even come within three TDs of them! ::)

Yes, interesting decision on Lacrosse at IWU.  It has been presented on campus, to faculty groups as an overall admissions/recruitment strategy.  I didn't realize it was growing so fast in the midwest . . . perhaps rugby will be next!  (If I had my way, of course, we'd have enough Asian students on campus to consider ping pong and/or badminton . . . or at least start winning all the CCIW championships in diving!).  No Yao Ming's coming into the CCIW as yet.

Ypsi, have a good vacation.  Sorry you will miss the thundering Titans in football @Hope.  They are looking very good so far this season.

I'm sticking with my Yankees, even though they are an old and injured lot this year.  We won two today, with Ichiro saving us . . . speaking of old guys.  Plus, oldest of old, 40 year-old Andy Pettite is back . . . perhaps we should give a ring to Posada and Bernie Williams . . . and see if Mo is healed up enough to provide a few more saves before the season and the post-season are out.  You know me, always cheering for the "old guys."  But, look what Jeter is doing this year, over 200 hits and leading the majors in hits, and more important, in leadership.  Can a Roger Clemens return to the Bronx be far behind . . . wheel chairs galore.

Yes, Mr. Ypsi, we will miss seeing you at the game @ Hope this weekend.  However, I hope you have a great time on your vacation out in the Black Hills.  I was just out there at the end of June this summer.  If you have the time, try and visit the U.S. Cavalry Museum at Fort Meade in Sturgis (if you get that far); and/or if you are going to Deadwood, visit the museum there in the old railroad depot and also the saloon where Wild Bill Hickock was shot and the Boot Hill Cemetary.  Of course, if you are at Wall Drug, enjoy the buffalo burgers at one of the restuarants there along with the great shopping.  The bookstore in the mini-mall right in town there is great, along with the Wounded Knee Musuem.  Have a great time and safe driving.  We'll be thinking of you while at the game Saturday.  Of course, I hope we (Hope) pull the upset finally on your IWU - sorry! ;D :D ;) :o

Mr Y:
Also, be sure to stop at Wall Drug, the Badlands and Custer State Park (where the Buffalo will come up to your car).
The pie at the local cafes in Custer is out of this world. Also, the Crazy Horse monument is worth the trip. This area is in my top 5 of all the places we have been to both inside and outside the US. I am sure that you will enjoy....

Mr. Ypsi

formerd3db and dahlby, this is not our first trip there by any means (though it has been a decade or so since the last).  We've already been to all except the museum in Sturgis.  Personally I find Wall Drug to be overhyped and a disappointment, but the Badlands and Custer are definite highlights of the trip.  I'll be interested in seeing Deadwood, as I thought it was verging on too 'cutesy' touristy last trip; maybe they've found the right balance by now.  I'll also be interested in the progress of the Crazy Horse sculpture; when we were last there the general outline was clear, but not yet any detail at all.

On an earlier trip (1986?), we camped at the western (rustic) campground in the Badlands; returning late in the evening from Wall Drug, I turned off the headlights on the truck when we turned into the campground to be courteous to other campers.  I sensed a massive presence around the truck and turned the lights back on: a herd of at least a hundred buffalo were streaming by both the front and back of the truck!  One of the greatest experiences ever!!
