MU over Aurora 44-20, so Millikin also 3-0 in pre-CCIW phase of play.  Should be a great match-up next week @IWU @Tucci Stadium @Wilder Field in Bloomington --6 p.m. start time.

IWU70

Extremely windy in Decatur today and the score doesn't really reflect how MU controlled the game with the first teams, as they should have.  The pre-season is done, so bring on the real deal.  Game on next week and the Big Blue will be ready.
This will be a big game for both teams, glad to see a Milikin poster as well. Three former student's of mine plays there. One of them played youth football with my son. Looking forward to seeing them when we travel to Decatur later this season.

When was the last time we had a CCIW Player of the Week from NPU football?  And a winning week, too!  Congratulations to Mssr. Krebs. . . . and the other weekly CCIW football honorees.

Now the real fun begins -- key CCIW match-ups every week.  We'll get to see if MU and/or ECC are legit to break into the top tier.  On my part, big doubties . . . still think the race is between NCC, IWU and Wheaton.

When was the last time we had a CCIW Player of the Week from NPU football?

NPU kicker Tony Kebede was twice named CCIW Special Teams Player of the Week last season.

Your question implies that it's a rare occurrence. It's not. There's been at least one CCIW Player of the Week award given out in football to an NPU player for eight seasons in a row now.

Quote from: iwu70 on September 24, 2012, 08:28:55 PMAnd a winning week, too!

Again, this is not a "pigs will fly" situation. NPU may not have won a CCIW game in a long, long time, but the Vikings do win football games. NPU hasn't had a winless season since 1997.

I knew I could get a rise out of you, Greg.  Thanks for the full set of NP accomplishments over the years.

Let's try for the CCIW win now . . . at least just one, OK?

Yes npu goes out each week to try to win and good to see they got a win yesterday which I don't think surprises anyone against Olivet, it would of been terrible

i hope this year they can get a cciw win cause I kinda feel for the seniors last year they were in alot of those games and lost by some miss field goals that should of been made,  and that carthage game I'm sure was something they couldn't beleve that happen.  the seniors last year showed the underclassman and set a good example for them and developed the foundation of what being a npu player is about

Who are you fooling, '70? You weren't trying to "get a rise" out of me. You simply weren't aware that all of the CCIW Players of the Week for the past dozen seasons are listed here, or that NPU's past W-L records (as well as those of the other seven CCIW schools) are listed here, or you wouldn't have made that post.

I'll do my best. But, although I hate to make excuses for myself, I have to be upfront about the fact that webcasters just don't have as big an impact upon the final score as I'd like. ;)

I was really surprised with the numbers.  I guess that I didn't suspect that much mediocrity (at least stats-wise) that has hit Rock Island.  It's still strange for me to see that low rushing yards per game.  It's been several years now since Augie changed it's offense, but still strange for me to see those numbers.

On a happier note, God gave us an ultimate blessing as Mrs. 79Jaybird gave birth to a baby girl. Alexandra 7lbs 14oz. 21" long at 7:59AM 9/24. Mommy and baby are healthy and will share the same birthday.   Alexandra joins big sister Emma (2 1/2) and will hopefully be a CCIW fan someday.

All this "talk" by EC fans may be hushed a bit, if Elmhurst is able to win some big games this year and future years.  Until they actually DO win these games,  I think the criticism and hesitations to praise is warranted.  I.E. I am a Cubs fan.  I think the Cubs have had some good players over the years. i.e. Sandberg, Grace, Dawson, etc.  but would I say they are a good team, or a first tier NL team?  Of course not.  Likewise,  Elmhurst has some great players and JB4EVER, with a wife teaching on campus, I have probably met and spoken to a number of them personally,  their character(s) are very strong and bright.  However, many positive, good natured players have been given L's on Saturdays.  It's a team game based on consistency and execution on the field.  To date, this hasn't been the case (enough times) for Elmhurst in CCIW play.
