Make that 20-10.  Wheaton drove down for a FG with less than 50 seconds.

Wheaton nearly 300 yards offense in 1st half, to Carthage's 108.  4 fumbles and 1 INT is keeping this closer than it should be.

NCF

NC up 28-10 at the half. MU QB is as good as advertised.

Jordan Roberts continues to sizzle at QB for Wheaton.  13-15 for 122 yards and 2 TD's in the 2nd quarter.  Combine that will his stats from the 1 1/2 quarters he played last week and he is 30-39 for 391 yards, 4 TD's in under 3 quarters of play.  That splitting time with an All-American QB.

Interesting... Wheaton opens the 3rd quarter with Roberts at QB instead of Meador.

Roberts with 2 more TD passes in 3rd quarter.  Wheaton leading now 34-10.

Roberts is 21 of 23 for 199 yards and 4 TDs.  Wheaton offense is really starting to gel.

Coach Rucks was touting Carthage as one of the top defenses in the CCIW.  Wheaton with 400 yards offense in less than 3 quarters.

Roberts has complete 39 of his last 43 passes.

IWU over NP, 44-7.  Gallik to Garvey all afternoon.  Save for one returned fumble for a NP TD early in the game, this one was all Green.  NP just doesn't have the athletes . . . their top QB was injured, did not play.  IWU passing game was superb.  IWU D turned over NP a number of times on INT and fumbles.

IWU hosts Carthage next Saturday for Homecoming, 1:30 p.m. kickoff.

IWU70

WC, NCC winning big . . . so top three are lining up for the showdown games, as expected.

iwu70

Elmhurst escapes Augie, scoring in the last minute.

Wheaton wins 44-10 over Carthage, and the game wasn't even that close.  Wheaton with 550 yards offense, Carthage with only 133.

6 Wheaton turnovers (5 in 1st half) kept this from a major blowout.  Wheaton had better learn to hold onto the ball or they will have little chance against front runners for conference title.

Jordan Roberts with another HUGE 2 quarters of play - 24 of 27 for 257 yards, 5 TD's.  By comparison, Carthage QB was 7 of 27 for 60 yards.

Carthage was 0 for 16 on 3rd downs.

Wheaton with 32 1st downs, Carthage with 10.

Wheaton with 4 RB's with at least 45 yards rushing, Velling & Garrett with 76 and 78 respectively.

Most likely Top 25 team to get upset

Ryan's take: No. 11 North Central. Yes, I know one of my colleagues picked on North Central last week, too, but when you play in a conference as good as the CCIW, every week will be treacherous. A 3-1 opponent like Millikin that played Illinois Wesleyan to the bone will be no exception.

That's 2 weeks in a row!  Here's hoping for the same result.  Also, (and not that I'm complaining about such a high compliment to the conference) isn't the recent buzz about how the CCIW has weakened?
I was thinking the same thing. As long as we keep on winning-please pick us every week ;D

I just looked at the North Central schedule to see which team the folks at D3football.com were going to pick to upset the Cardinals next week ... looks like it will be North Park, losers of 58 straight CCIW games after today.  I can't wait to read the commentary that goes with that pick!

Scary stat from Coach Swider in post game:  "Including today we've had 19 concussions so far this season.  That is more than we've had total in the 31 years I've coached."  Yikes...

Granted... they pay a little more attention to concussions now than they did 20+ years ago.  I can point to at least 3 occasion where I had significant short term memory loss during a game and kept playing - likely a minor concussion.

Nice win for the Cards today! Way to go Cardinals!!! However, four personal foul penalties? C'mon! You're better than that! I watched the game on the computer via Millikin's video stream. I had to chuckle when one of the announcers stated that playing North Central competitively will certainly help their recruiting. Competitively? Really? Not so much....................................The game was not so competitive when the two's are in for most of the fourth quarter. Granted, that statement was made at halftime. But, at the half the score was 28-10. It's tough to come back against the Cards when you are down by 18.
What has happened to Cardinal Nation? For many tears we traveled really, really well. It looked as if there was a sparse crowd there today.

Escaped is the correct word IWU70.  Solid second half for Elmhurst and Augie played much tougher and better than I anticipated they would.  Frankly, this game also showed that Elmhurst is really lacking some (pieces) of the total picture to call themselves a 1-2 team right now.  This is a home game against a team picked to be in the lower 3rd of the conference... I expected Elmhurst to win this game by a much higher score.

The good- 3-0 winning streak vs. Augie that is a new high.  Scotty Williams is your go to guy and Team MVP right now. To borrow a phrase from a movie, "Winners always want the ball in their hands, when the game is on the line, " Well that is/was indeed the case.

The bad- Elmhurst really has to step it up.  This team today would struggle against Wheaton/IWU.

NPU got steamrolled by Wesleyan, 44-7. The Vikings went up early when DeAndre Fry pried the ball loose from Wesleyan QB Rob Gallik's hands and Doug Ivy scooped it up and ran it back 86 yards for a TD late in the first quarter. But that was it for the highlights for NPU; and even that play only served to nullify a 9-play, 72-yard drive by the Titans, who were rarely stopped on offense today. The Titans quickly went down the field and scored before the first quarter was out on the subsequent possession, and they didn't stop scoring until the subs came in in the fourth quarter.

Tyler Krebs sat out the game with a knee injury suffered towards the end of NPU's loss up at Carthage last week. I knew several days ago that he wouldn't be suiting up, and I had to sit on that information. Jon Williams and Ruben Cruz were supposed to rotate at QB for the Vikings, but Williams ended up seeing the lion's share of work, as the sophomore Cruz had the deer-in-the-headlights look that is disaster waiting to happen. Williams ran the ball effectively (76 yards on 17 carries), but his passing was poor -- he completed as many passes to Wesleyan defenders as he did to his own men, going 2-6 for seven yards while throwing two ill-advised passes right into the hands of Titans defenders, both of which led to Wesleyan touchdowns. Williams also coughed up a fumble at the IWU 12 on NPU's only decent drive of the game. Tough day for the backup QB, although he clearly is limited in terms of his offensive weapons (slotback John Barnabee also sat out the game due to injury, and I think that wideout Nick Weinstein's broken foot might keep him from getting back out onto the field this year) as well as his experience.

Defensively, NPU packed the box to take away T.J. Stinde from the Titans, which they did for the most part, as he only had 45 yards rushing on the day. But that opened up a lot of holes in the secondary, and Gallik picked NPU apart with plenty of short out routes and slants. The Titans seemed to pick up between 10 and 15 yards on most catches, and since Gallik was 24-29 there were a lot of catches. Wesleyan picked up 6 of its 8 third-down attempts, and generally proved too much for the North Park defense to stop.

Today went about as I expected. It wasn't much fun to watch, and it certainly wasn't much fun to broadcast. It'll get worse next week when North Central comes to town, I'm pretty sure of that. Much worse. Millikin played Wesleyan to a virtual draw last week, while NCC turned the Big Blue into mulch today on the Blue's home field.

Fifty-eight straight losses? I wish it was only 58 straight. It was 58 straight a long time ago, SOB.
