Daily Herald article on Dan Vicari and David Tomis of Elmhurst:

Elmhurst:
After holding on to beat Augustana 31-17 last Saturday, two Elmhurst College football players were recognized as a CCIW Player of the Week. Senior defensive end Dan Vicari was named the defensive winner, while junior kicker David Tomis received the award for special teams.

Vicari was vital in the Bluejay's victory. The finance major lead the team with 10 tackles, 6 of which were solo. Additionally, Vicari reached the quarterback twice for the team's only two sacks of the night and forced a fumble for Elmhurst.

Not to be outdone, Tomis left the game with a record-setting 51-yard field goal in the fourth quarter of the game. He broke the previous mark by 7 yards, and did it in the final quarter to cement the Bluejays' victory. Tomis rounded out the night by nailing field goals of 21 and 23 yards, respectively.

Daily Herald article re North Central's Medical Director:

North Central:
While the athletes will forever get the recognition for on-field results, the team of support that helps to get them there rarely gets any credit. The student-athletes at North Central College owe much of their success to one man, and later this month Ken Sanders will be inducted into North Central College's Athletics Hall of Fame.

For nearly four decades Sanders has been the team physician at North Central, and on Oct. 27 he will be inducted into the Hall of Fame. Sanders came to the school in 1976, and as an orthopedic surgeon he was quickly given control over much of the athletic training in the university. He became an influential force in helping the university hire its first full-time athletic trainers, even helping to create a fully accredited athletic training education program.

Sanders grew the program and now serves as the education program's medical director as well as a lecturer and clinical instructor to athletic training students.

The long-time physician is still active in his role at North Central. He can be seen nearly every football game along with many other sporting events the teams compete in. Sanders is one of six people who will be inducted into North Central College's Athletics Hall of Fame.

Quick question-Since this is the first time in four years that NC is traveling to North Park, is the field on Foster and is there parking available? Thanks

The Holmgren Athletic Complex, in which Hedstrand Field is located, is on the corner of Foster and Albany, two blocks east of the rest of the NPU campus. There are two lots available on the east side of the campus for visitor parking. One is on the southeast corner of Foster and Kedzie (across the street from the gym), which is where NCC, like most visiting schools, will probably set up a visitor's tent. The other is across the river from the first parking lot, on the corner of Carmen and Kedzie.

Quote from: ILGator on October 10, 2012, 01:11:48 PMDo you know which game Usee's transvestite uncle will be attending this week, if he is indeed the real expert on this board?

USee's the one who keeps tabs on his uncle, not me. Since I don't know what USee looks like, I wouldn't know it if someone who looked like him was wearing a dress. ;)

Truth be known my uncle was a North Park guy. In fact he was on of the head doctors of Swedish covenant hospital for many years before his passing. Neither he nor I have ever donned a dress knowingly. In fact my uncle and mother went to the old North Park academy for high school. They were not the same person.

Interesting. I had no idea that you had a link, however tenuous, to NPU or to its sister institution, Swedish Covenant Hospital. The joke when I was in school was that there were two inducements that the North Park football coaches used when recruiting prospects, one of which was to point out that the Swedish Cov emergency room was less than a minute's ambulance ride away in case the kid got his arm, or his leg, or his neck broken by an Augustana behemoth.

You won't be disappointed.

(It's also conveniently located between the parking lot and the football field.)

One word of caution: It's NPU's Homecoming this weekend, and all the out-of-town alumni (which is most of them) clamor to get over to "the Pit" (Charcoal Delights) at some point while they're in town, so it may be crowded in there.

Well, if it's as good as you guys say it is it will be worth the wait. I might have to go before half-time. If junior plays Saturday, he will be done after the first quarter.

Never miss a chance for Charcoal Delights.  I've actually gone out of my way on my way up to my parents house in Grayslake to stop in.

It looks great-I wish I could order some now as I'm staying after to work a basketball game and supervise the Student Council breast cancer bracelet sale.

Thanks a lot!  I'm trying to be good and watch what I eat during the week, which means I'm typically starving at 4:30pm.  Reading this menu makes me want to run a couple of blocks to "Epic Burger".
