The high point of the day for me on a soggy Homecoming afternoon at Holmgren Athletic Complex was hearing from a fan that I had a listener who was following my webcast all the way across the ocean over in Budapest, Hungary. I've gone international! ;D

Titan Q

Final from Bloomington...

IWU 45
Carthage 7

* Rob Gallik (QB): 16-26/181 yards/2 TD
* T.J. Stinde (RB): 53 yards rushing, 1 TD
* Alex Garvey (WR): 4 catches, 84 yards, 1 TD

The Titans were outstanding in all phases of the game today.  The defense pitched a shutout until the final 20 seconds of the game when the Red Men scored.  Offensively the Titans are just extremely balanced, and very solid.  QB Rob Gallik is an accurate passer with a bunch of WR weapons, including Alex Garvey who has to be one of the fastest receivers in the league.  T.J. Stinde keeps opposing defenses honest with big play ability on the ground.

The Titans are 6-0/3-0 and now travel to Wheaton next weekend for a big one.

The rain pretty much spared us here at Tucci, at IWU for the game, but not for the morning activities.  The game was about as thorough and dominating as I've seen the Titans in some time -- when I left with about 3 minutes to go in the 4th, it was 45-0 Titans, over the Redpeople.  Another great performance by the D, very systematic and swarming.  Gallik had another good day . . . with a wonderful performance today by Tyrell Bolden, with a 72 TD run and a big punt return of over 50+ yards, getting bumped out of bounds on the 3.  Lots of return yardage today, and very good kicking and punting, kick and punt coverage.  Alex Garvey now doing the punting and the kick-offs, with greater effect, distance.  The Titans have a very consistent overall team effort  . . . so next couple of weeks @WC and @NCC should be excellent games.  Looking forward to it.

A much better Homecoming outcome today, with a big blowout win over Carthage.  Congrats to Norm and all the TITANS!  Two big weekends, two big games coming up now, for all the CCIW marbles.

Happy Homecoming to all Titans back for the weekend!!!

Ghostbuster

Augustana defeats Millikin 24-14. I don't have too many details because I was just following a twitter feed that had sporadic updates, but I do know the Vikings had two 4th down defensive stands inside their own 15 yard line in the 2nd half. Big Blue were up 14-0 about halfway through the 2nd Quarter.
Who ya gonna call?

Elmhurst is playing well.  Soggy turf however guys don't seem to be letting the elements affect them that much.  This is NOT the Wheaton team I expected here today.  They are showing shades of what I expected here in the second half.

Right now I would agree NC is your top dog and (while I haven't seen IWU), would say IWU is a solid #2.

Should be an exciting 4th quarter.

Yes, in a surprise to me, Augie over MU, 24-14.  I surely thought MU was the better team after they fought our Titans to a virtual standoff.

ECC playing WC very tough.

Elmhurst stuffs Wheaton on 4th and 1 from 3.  Takes over on downs.  Under 5 minutes remaining, Elmhurst leading 35-30.

Elmhurst is making all the big plays - pick 6, 4th and 1 stop.  Wheaton with nearly 300 yards offense in 2nd half, Elmhurst with under 80 (thus far).

WOW, EC over WC, 35-30.  Must be very tough to put up over 550 yards of total offense and still lose the game.  EC D must have been special at the end.

Big Big loss for WC, to say the least.  EC gets one of their big breakthrough wins.  Congrats to EC.

Game over. Elmhurst wins 35-30.

Games ends on offensive pass interference on pass to Elmhurst 12 yard line.

Wheaton dominates the 2nd half offensively, but Elmhurst makes the big plays when they count - pick 6, and stops Wheaton on 4th and 1 from 3.

Roberts with 250 yards passing in 2nd half, Wheaton with 2 RB's with over 100 yards, but it was not enough due to hole in 1st half.

Wheaton is just a different team when they play in Elmhurst it seems.

Interesting game at Langhorst and I don't think anybody (including me) expected this outcome.  The HC crowd and those who braved the wet conditions were treated to an inspiring EC performance.  I think for Wheaton it was a case of getting it in gear too late.  Credit the Elmhurst defense for coming up big in the second half.

The way I see it-
NC- IMO GOING 7-0 IN PLAY GETTING THE AQ
IWU- 6-1 GETTING POOL C
ELMHURST 7-3 OR 8-2 WITH A BUILDING BLOCK TYPE OF YEAR.
WHEATON- THIS LOSS HURTS.

Yes, Mugsy  and likewise at McCully for Elmhurst.  I have been associated with EC football since 1999 and never have we played well at Wheaton.  At home, this rivalry has a different tone to it.
People might claim the weather may have had an impact.  I don't buy that as both teams had to endure the same elements.  As Mugsy put it,  Elmhurst FINALLY came up with some big plays, and came up with a big win.

However,  This is not the 1 or 2 slot Wheaton team that we have been accustomed to seeing in recent years.  Just because Elmhurst came up with a big HC win today, I still would be hesitant to call them a 1 or 2 team.

Jaybird can we enjoy this for more then 5 seconds after the game before you write a post about being 3rd and "the way you see it." Maybe this is what ghost means.

It prevents the "Kool Aid" fair weather (clueless) EC fans from jumping on board just b/c their team came up with an unlikely win.  I am happy for my Alma Mater, but realize that it is just 1 win in the big season.
