It prevents the "Kool Aid" fair weather (clueless) EC fans from jumping on board just b/c their team came up with an unlikely win.  I am happy for my Alma Mater, but realize that it is just 1 win in the big season.

Really Jaybird i thought you knew who i was and you think I'm clueless? Come on really. If you are going to take shots at me, I will come straight back. You turned negative once you stopped doing the play by play. Ill leave it to others to speculate to why that happened. I never personally attacked you or called you names on this board. I simply pointed out in my opinion you are always looking to say or spin something negative. That is all I said. Great win but they will finish 3rd? That was your comment 5 seconds after the game. It's funny how I am clueless as I started and played all 4 years of my college career while you became an expert on the X's and O's while watching. Keep taking shots buddy as this expert actually knows what it takes to compete week in and week out in our conference. Your posts have as much "experience" behind them as a person criticizing their starting QB on their NFL fantasy football team. The little respect I tried to maintain for you is now gone. The program needs supporters not arm chair qb's who once was privileged to put on a practice uniform for a JV game.

Again congrats to All winners today. Each game I'm this conference is difficult to win. I never said let's go take out mount union.

Crazy Saturday in the CCIW. Congrats to Elmhurst  and Augie for pulling off big wins yesterday. The next few weeks will be exciting to watch.

I don't have much to add to Mugsy's analysis of the game. I really thought the game was won by Elmhurst's offense more than anything. They ran for over 200 yds and limited Wheaton to 4 possessions in the first half and 10 possessions for the game. The average number of possessions for most teams in a game is 13-14. When you have 10 posessions and turn it over on effectively 30% of the time, it's hard to win in this league. Elmhurst's offense really shortened the game and was very effiecient. Consider Wheaton came into the game allowing a little over 3 yds per play. They gave up 7.2 yds per play to Elmhurst. Scottie Williams did what he wanted but Furco was 8-10 for 147 yds, all of them big completions. That's what happens when you can run the ball. Kudos to Elmhurst for a big win. Wheaton will be a dangerous team down the stretch but they are a non factor for the playoffs. There is simply no way a 7-2 team (which won't be the Thunder) is going to the playoffs from this league with the relatively low SOS we will generate this year.

The Thunder are playing for pride now.

IWU won in dominating style again. Sadly, their teammate and inspiration, Andrew Weishar, passed away on Friday. My condolensces to the IWU Sports family and to Andrew's family and friends. It's a tough thing to lose a close friend and teammate. I am sure his life and presence will serve as an inspiration to the team the rest of the way.

Although Wheaton will be playing for pride they are a great program and well coached. Their kids are filled with character and I would not be surprised if they pull an upset down the stretch. They are so loaded with talent.

Not true.  An 8-2 Wheaton team will have beaten NCC (no question this is very unlikely given recent history), and in that scenario would have the AQ if IWU wins at EC.   Again, I don't see WC or IWU wining at NCC, but a 2 loss Wheaton would have a decent probability of getting the AQ.

The Titans attended a prayer vigil for Andrew in Oak Forest last Saturday, on the way home from the North Park game.  Several of the seniors were by his side when he passed away a few days ago.

Pretty tragic for a 21-year old kid to die of colon cancer.

I agree and a 2 loss Wheaton is going to be even more dangerous down the stretch. The AQ is far from being decided at this  point. Too many tough games left to be played.

Good point Izzy. I was thinking specifically of a Pool C bid, which I think is off the table for the Thunder. They are a good bet for the AQ if they win out and a lock if IWU beats Elmhurst and they win out.

Outstanding Homecoming weekend at IWU . . . so my kudos to Ann Harding and all the Alumni Relations staff and volunteers. Takes alot of work to put on such a fine, diverse and varied weekend, with fabulous music, wonderful memory-filled reunions and anniversary events, 100th Anniversary of IWU Student Senate, honoring the WESN radio station, 25th Annniversary of International House, Tenth Anniversary of the opening of Ames Library!!!,  . . . and 100th of Kemp Hall.  Lots of good stuff, with a huge return of classmates, program outcome and generosity from the 50th Reunion Class, the class of 1962.  My hat is off to them for sure!   All good.

Of course, always good to finally have a big, dominating football win on Homecoming.  We've had some tough losses over the past few years, and this game was just glorious.  Even the rain gave us a good break all during gametime at Tucci @Wilder Field.  A great job on a very emotional weekend for Norm and his team, I'm sure.

My prayers and support go out to Andrew's family and friends.  Very very tragic, sad to see such a young and vibrant student die so so young.

Big games, championship-determining games upcoming in the next two weeks.

Congrats to all the IWU alums, friends, staff, faculty and students for an amazing and much-appreciated Homecoming weekend, 2012.

WOW, EC over WC, 35-30.  Must be very tough to put up over 550 yards of total offense and still lose the game.  EC D must have been special at the end.

Big Big loss for WC, to say the least.  EC gets one of their big breakthrough wins.  Congrats to EC.

IWU70

Actually it was 596 yards of offense. 333 passing, 263 rushing.

Some big individual games:
Scottie Williams with 179 yards on 31 carries.
Mark Hiben 8 catches for 198 yards.
Charlie Velling 112  yards on 11 carries
Peter Jarrett 103 yards on 18 carries.

The Hiben kid is a freak.  How is he in Division III??

Legit D1 receiver.  Size, speed, hands, smarts (well that isn't needed for most D1).  Only a sophomore.  If he stays healthy, his numbers will be unreal.

Any rumors that d1 is belatedly discovering him?  Or any insights as to whether he would listen if they did?

Interesting, does anyone know of an example of a D1 program "stealing" a DIII player after they've started their DIII careers.  I only know of one, Owen Schmitt, a running back who played one year at UW-River Falls.  That wasn't really a case of a DI program discovering him late but rather Schmitt seeking them out.  During the summer Schmitt took his highlight video and drove across the country showing it to any DI coach who was willing to view it until he got to West Virginia University.  They offered him a walk on opportunity and he became a starter at fullback that year.  Drafted in the 5th round by the Seahawks he played there a couple of years, then signed with the Eagles and currently is on the roster of the Raiders.

I happened to be scanning through Wheatons future schedules and noticed that the Wheaton North Central games were scheduled at 2 years at NCC 2011-12 then two years at Wheaton 2013-14 then two years back to NCC 2015-16.  Then they last schedule shows back at Wheaton 2017 and I would guess probably in 2018 to even things up.  I am not a big fan of this. Has this happened in the CCIW before?  Do other Wheaton fans or NCC fans like this format.  I can tell you it seems like forever when you are playing away and losing.  I suppose if your winning not so much. :'(   ;)
