Thank you IL Gator.  I just think the road to the NCAA Playoffs is going to be tough for Elmhurst if NC wins out, grabs the AQ and then EC needing to rely on a Pool C.   This is partly why it is often a positive to schedule a tough team (i.e. a UW School or an Ohio Conf. Team) in non conference.

If Elmhurst does win out (and I think they will...calling it now) I find it hard to believe a 1 loss CCIW team wouldn't make it in.  I think a pool C is a lock.

I see the IWU game being the greatest challenge left on the schedule. I don't see NC losing at all so they grab the Pool A (AQ). Then it comes Pool C.  The CCIW in general is not as strong as in past years, and Elmhurst SOS is middle of the pack,  thus I think it is going to be hard(er) for them to get in.

If Elmhurst had scheduled a tough team from the WIAC or OAC and lost, then IMO you'd be in a much worse situation on Selection Sunday than if you ended up at 9-1.  I'd much rather be 9-1 than 8-2 when the selection committee is debating which of 4 teams should get that last Pool C spot, given that your competitors from other regions might include an 8-2 UW-Whitewater, St. John Fisher, or Louisiana College.

Elmhurst still has a (long)shot at the AQ:  win out and hope that the Weenies and Wheaties beat NCC.  In that scenario Elmhurst wins the conference championship outright or is co-champ with Wheaton.  And Elmhurst owns the tie-breaker over Wheaton.

Agree.  Play a good team from the WIAC or OAC and decent chance you lose.  I think that to continue to build a program, you do anything you can to make a playoff appearance.  Don't worry about a bad seed or getting hammered early.  Getting a bid would be great for recruiting etc.  Pool C is Elmhurst's best shot and its becomes unlikely with a non-conference loss.  I'd say they have done a good job with their schedule.   At 9-1 with the expanded field, I'm 90% certain they'd get a bid.

After listening to the podcast this morning, a 2 loss UWW still could slide in and knock a one loss team out. This CCIW season has a great three weeks left to go with the AQ possibly not being decided until the last week. WOW!

I was going to post that it's not impossible that an 8-2 UWW team would get a Pool C bid over a 9-1 Elmhurst team. UWW has one out of region loss (although a bad loss at home to an average team) and a loss to a UWO team that D3Keith said last week  is a candidate for 1 seed if they beat UWW. After NCC beats IWU and Wheaton, an Elmhurst win over IWU won't look like a strong quality win.

I would think that if EC wins out, and goes to 9-1 with wins over WC and IWU they would likely get an invite to post-season.  IWU basically has to do the same thing, seems to me.  Doubt that 8-2 gets the Titans in, so must win at NC this weekend and also beat EC.  A tall order, esp. if injuries to key offense skill players are serious.  If Gallik is lost for the season, I think the Titans are in a very tough position.  May see a totally different type of offensive approach this weekend, if Bolden, Starr or Hook are at the helm.  Stinde would be needed all the more, though Jones had his best game as a Titan last weekend in the tough, tough loss to WC.

No word yet on the IWU injuries . . . at least not that I've seen here on IWU sites or in the local press.

just finished watching the Wheaton come back win against IWU.  Great and entertaining game.  Excellent job by the Wheaton station and the announcers, high quality video and fair and balanced announcers calling the game.  You could tell they were for Wheaton but did a nice job filling in the information.  Really enjoyable game in all aspects.

For some of us, that excludes the final score. :P
I don't know how other Wheaton posters feel but I'm glad they one but Wheaton has been sloppy all season long from the top down.  Starting out very slow in the first half just looking out of sorts. Then finally playing the way they should have in the second half.  It just seems very odd.  Not like a normal Wheaton team.  I hope they can play four quarters next week.  I have really been impressed with the way Milikin has been playing and Wheaton cannot keep playing one half and get away with it as they can not afford another loss.  Looking forward to Mugsy and Usse thoughts on the game.

Well Im going to have take back part of this post after watching the game taped from tv.  I was at the game the first half with my service dog I use for pain and she has been in a false pregnancy so she was not doing the job she normally does.  Also I forgot to take part of my pain medicine so I was in a bad state at the game projecting my pain on the game.  I didn't see what I thought I saw.  I now say that Wheaton played a pretty good whole game with a few mistakes.  Il Wesleyan was also playing great its just to bad I was out of my mind in pain while dealing with a dog who was not listening.  I hate it when a teams players especially key players get hurt.  Galiks injury was a freak injury.  You see him running then you see the ankle go limp.  The Wheaton offensive line looked pretty good pass blocking but didn't pick up a couple of delayed blitzes.  It seems like the coaches are having the defense create a huge pileup at the point were the hand off to the Rb is going to occur.  Which is good in one aspect but they again got backs sided on a delayed hand off were the running back changed directions and went around the pileup.  One time the LB who wasn't blocked stepped behind the pile while the RB went through his area.  From what Ive seen this defense has the potential to be really good with a few changes like having one of the offside LB's stay home until they are sure the RB is not going to break the other direction.

I think everybody has covered Hiben so I would like to mention Brandon Dykstra at the nose who is getting double and triple teamed every play.  He has definitely improved from last year and has LB vertical speed sideline to sideline.  He is often one of the first players to make a tackle at the sideline  He is one of the most powerful linemen that I have seen in D3 more powerful than Studebaker yet slower.  The comparison I think of is a UWW defensive linemen around 4 years ago who was up for the Gagliardi Trophy.  Playing nose guard is a hard place to get recognition when your triple teamed and a very hard place to pass rush from so I thought I would give him a mention.  If he was a tackle or end I think his numbers would be even better than they are now.

O by the way I retain the right to go out of my mind vs North Central game.  If anyone sees me drooling red in the face if Wheaton is losing "again" its OK to call the guys in the White suits as I have changed my retirement plan from my 401k due to the economy to being the bull goose loon in the loony bin. :D ;D

I pretty much called the guys in the White suits after I read this post!  :o ???
