I never said it would affect the outcome of the game, but it does affect the stats when your starters have not played a full conference game yet this season. Looking forward to a great game on Saturday!

I didn't say you did.  It was a point I was making.  The discussion is pointless IMO.

One mudball coming up......look out Mugsy!   Not sure I would categorize that as smack talk or mudslinging.  I believe they are all saying the same thing but in their own way.  Oh well, i'm out of that one!   ;D

So anybody who doesn't vote for Elmhurst and/or stays pessimistic is a joke?  Why should Elmhurst be ranked?  They were hammered by North Central and barely beat a 500 or so Augie team at home.  Then yes they beat Wheaton barely, but Wheaton was depleted with injuries too.  If Elmhurst just shuts up and wins out, I think they will be a good position to get a pool C.

Jaybird - "If Elmhurst shuts up?"  Come on, Brother, you are way out of line.  You've got an axe to grind with your Alma Mater, that's your issue - but how about re-directing some of that negative energy into positive thought and support for the Blue and White - our Birds could use some of it in what is shaping up to be our most exciting season and legitimate opportunity  at Langhorst in decades.

The coaches/SIDs/"media folks" who do vote on the Top 25 can do so for any team they feel belongs - the joke is Wheaton ahead of EC.  I could certainly understand the argument to keep EC on the fringe, but by the same rationale to vote the Thunder in makes zero sense (as others in this chat room have agreed upon).  If EC is #26, then so be it, i have no problem with that - but behind a team they BEAT is simply irresponsible and backwards

And where are these mysterious "depleting Wheaton injuries" you continue to reference? The regulars, except Thorson, seemed to be out there on O for the Wheaties (Jarrett, Hiben, Cook, Roberts...all played) and 9 out of 11 defensive starters from their week one game were out there vs. EC - the 'Jays were without 4 defensive starters that day - this is a bogus argument and a sad attempt to disqualify the victory in hindsight - the 'Jays won, let's move on.

To be honest - this "Top 25" frustration is not coming from a place of anti-Thunder, in fact - i hope Wheaton wins out, and every EC fan out there will be cheering for the Thunder this Saturday.  A Thunder win, coupled with two more EC victories creates a 3-way trophy tie atop the CCIW (w/ NCC still likely the AQ on point differential), helps the 'Jays SOS, and sends both birds to the dance - the 'Jays DO still have work to do and the Bell Game will be tough, but hey, stay positive.

Maybe i'm off - maybe you are right - perhaps i should just abide by your self-inflating nugget of insight here and follow your "words of wisdom"... :-X

those posters (i.e. Mugsy, Greg, Usee, Titan Q, myself etc.) who have been around a long time, seen the highs & lows of their schools, are the ones to really pay attention to. Their content is always much more wise (for lack of a better word) than the rest.

To my friend, CardinalAlum,

It's not always that easy as using a calculator.  Polls are opinions.  They have no bearing on the D3 playoffs.  If Elmhurst wins out, they will get a little bit of the respect you so desperately crave.  Its great that you're representing your school with pride but the whining about polls is too much.

I know exactly what polls are, and i know exactly how they relate to the postseason, but thanks for your clarification - and there really is no need to take a dig ("desperately crave?").  EC wants to win - generations of Bluejays want to win.  A top 25 status would (with which your distinguished institution has become very familiar) is another feather in the cap that coaches can use in recruiting to lift the perception of the program - kids want to play for winners.

We can bicker back and forth all day on the value or methodology of subjective polls, but in the end, a number in front of your school's name carries weight on the recruiting trail - that's just how it is.  Of course, a playoff appearance serves an even better value, and i would like to champion that accomplishment as well - the more achievements the better.  For EC, cracking the top 25 would be more of a mental and emotional break through more than anything else on the way to earning a possible post-season berth.  EC is trying to build itself up to be where your birds already are on a consistent basis...and increased national recognition will help that process along.
It's a Great Day to be a Jay!

"If Elmhurst shuts up"... What I meant is/was if Elmhurst just continues to play well and not worry about numbers, rankings, opinions, etc. they should be ok.  I never looked at rankings or numbers when I played.  Who cares what the non-players think. We decided the outcomes of the games on the field.  I think if Elmhurst wins out, they should get into the dance.

Contrary to what you might think I don't have any "issues" or a vendetta with the Alma Mater. However, I am a realistic person and won't fill up the kool-aid glass.  I am happy to see them 7-1 and a chance at the best year in school history.  However, I also see that they are just 1-1 against high quality teams.

I feel like I'm in the twilight zone.

  • I haven't posted a single derogatory statement about NCC, yet...
  • I'm calling them NCC instead of "SoDup" or "the team from Naperville"
  • I have gone on the record that my head tells me NCC wins by more than 3 TD's - even if my heart tells me the coaching staff and players will find a way to make this a "bell-worthy" game.
  • I have stated in reply to AndOne's question that I don't see Wheaton's passing and NCC rushing negating each other because I believe NCC's passing is as efficient as Wheaton's.
  • I have stated NCC's defense is better than Wheaton's.
  • I have stated I question Wheaton's ability to stop NCC's rushing attack.

I merely was having difficulty understanding the relevancy of the point ILGator and newcardfan were trying to make regarding statistics and if NCC starters didn't sit half a game every week.

All this equates to "smack talk" and "mudslinging?"  ???  Can I go more "Lou Holtz" on you?

Elmhurst is on a fast track to a Pool C bid. They are certainly 3 plays away from being 3-3 right now but they have done what they needed to do and are in the drivers seat to a playoff appearance. If the Blue Jays figure out a way to finish 9-1 and make the playoff, then 7 of the 8 CCIW teams will have made an NCAA playoff appearance since 2000. That is pretty impressive.  I don't think anyone in Elmhurst will be apologizing for a 9-1 season and an NCAA playoff appearance. That would be an unprecedented season for the Jays. Celebrations of untold magnitude should be planned and executed.

The Ogdenites have to be considered the clear favorites.  They've proven it on the field time and again.  In this weeks podcast Pat and Keith indicate that it has been since 2009 since SoDup has won by less than a touchdown.  Football can be strange though.

Come on, Mugsy, everyone knows you're the king of mudslinging. As well abasing, belittling, bemeaning, benching, breaking, bumping, busting, cankering, casting down, cheapening, corrupting, cutting down to size, debasing, debauching, declassing, decrying, degenerating, demeaning, demoting, deposing, depraving, derogating, deteriorating, detracting, diminishing, disbarring, discrediting, disgracing, dishonoring, disparaging, downgrading, humbling, impairing, injuring, lessenning, lowering, panning, perverting, putting down, reducing, ruling out, running down, shooting down, sinking, slamming, taking down a peg, taking down, tearing down, vitiating, and weakening.

That's what the Breakfast of Champions do. It's no surprise. Luckily NCC likes to eat a good breakfast! 8-)

Just one crazy bounce or miscue can turn the momentum. That's why I love this game. There is a lot on the line for both teams. I can't imagine either team not being jacked come kick-off! And it looks like a pretty good day weather wise as well, 53 and no rain. Let's go Cards :D :D
