Well played USee.  I logged in exclusively to give you a karma point.  The way I figure it, this will be one of very few points given up by any Cardinal this week!

Oh, they'll give up plenty of points.  Just that most of them will be in Vegas.
.....and Bell week continues :)

I don't think anybody has a vendetta against Elmhurst.  I just think it is going to be tougher for EC to get recognition because since 1920, when they first fielded a team,  their (unfortunately) history has not been 500 or better.  In fact, there were decades, "1950's Uncle Pete's Puny Ponies"  or the 90's where Elmhurst struggled to get more than 3-4 wins a season. Plus, during those losing spells, other schools i.e. Wheaton (50's), Carthage (60's early 70's), Augie (80's), etc. were pulling away from the pack.  We don't have to hop on that soapbox of past years, but my point is that it is going to be tougher for Elmhurst to get people to give them looks.

Great to see Elmhurst is putting the neigh-sayers to bed one at a time.  I know, I was one of the neigh sayers.  While I'm still game-by-game realist, I do see the positive strides coming from Langhorst Camp.

Congrats to Elmhurst on their national ranking and recognition this week.  Great season so far, riding Mssr. Williams as far as you can go.

Great article about Joey Michals in the Naperville Sun:

http://napervillesun.suntimes.com/sports/16054822-419/college-football-nccs-michals-solid-as-a-rock-at-linebacker.html

Good stuff. NCC has had a great run of LBs over the past years.

Any idea what time the regional rankings are going to be released? I know they're supposed to drop today, just don't know when!

My first thought is this:

It does not appear that Concordia (IL) will lose either of their last two games (playing teams that are 2-6 and 0-8, respectively), but I would not be surprised to see NCC leapfrog them for the #2 spot if they beat Wheaton this weekend.

Happy to see Elmhurst at #5.

The initial Regional Rankings (coupled with the AFCA Poll) are certainly encouraging - definitely reinforces the assumption we've been bouncing around this board for the last few weeks: If EC wins out, the 'Jays should be dancing.

The Birds head up I-94 across the cheese curtain this Saturday for the proverbial "trap game."  A win at Art Keller Field for the 'Jays  would set up the biggest game at Langhorst in a generation on November 10th - but EC will need to keep their immediate focus on the Redmen.

Although statistically, this one looks lopsided (Thru 5 CCIW games, Carthage is scoring 14 ppg and giving up 35 ppg), CC has some good athletes, especially on defense, and the Redmen would love nothing more than to spoil EC's upstart season, playing loose at home.  Bluejays will need to keep this Saturday in their sights and not allow the Wesleyan game to creep into their conscious.  i have no doubt that Coach Lester will have them motivated and focused on Carthage.  Go 'Jays!
It's a Great Day to be a Jay!

Hmmm. Mount First, then CUC ahead of the rest of the pack. Was this expected? I know they're undefeated, but is there an SOS factor? If so, both Mount's and CUC's aren't all that great, are they?  Is this a math thing or is it voted upon? Not complaining, just ignorant as to how the rankings work.

I'm not convinced that will happen -- particularly since the Soggy Breakfast Flakes are not ranked.

Historically it seems there has been greater weight on number of losses than on other factors, and that is borne out here as, with a few exceptions, you see the unbeatens first, then the once-beatens, then the twice-beatens...

I don't necessarily agree with this, but that is how it has played out in the past.

CUC's SOS is ranked 34th right now, which is 4th best amongst all North region teams, and second to just Wabash amongst North region playoff hopefuls.  So yes, they do have a good SOS as the NCAA measures it.
