I see the men of D3football have posted a playoff projection. Interesting stuff. I prefer this to NCC being in Mt Union's bracket (here is the link, with some comments from the guys about why they set it up the way they did http://d3football.com/playoffs/2012/week9-playoff-projection). I'd have to guess NCC would move up to a 2 seed if they win out, flip flopping them and Concordia.

I like this bracket. I would like to see them flip with CUC and get two home games. They need to win out first, then play-off talk

I never thought this day would come so quickly! It always seemed so far away. Although this is the Bell Game, it ias also my son's last regular season home game. Couldn't have asked for a better opponent than Wheaton. To all the seniors playing today-good luck and Cards, let's ring that Bell!!!:)

Last regular season home game is the key word!   ;D. Thank you for sending your son our way. I don't know who he is but am sure he has made a difference for the beloved Cardinals.   Enjoy Senior Day.

Game of the Week.

Ryan's take: No. 7 North Central at No. 24 Wheaton. I love the Little Brass Bell rivalry game, even though the Cardinals have dominated the matchup the last few seasons. Importantly for two-loss Wheaton, another defeat here means they will slip entirely out of playoff contention. So more than just pride is certainly on the line. North Central, on the other hand, can clinch a playoff spot because of head-to-head wins against the other top teams in the CCIW – and they still have the chance to run the table with a victory the final week against Augustana. In only one win this season has North Central failed to score at least 40 points, and that was a 37-pointer against UW-Stout. Wheaton's defense will need to be on its toes if it doesn't want to spend the day playing on its heels.

*Sounds like a potentially great game. I just don't think it will be that well attended.  ;)

that would be a great streak to keep alive-but a win is a win today:)

What a joy that you son gets to play the sport he loves in college. Hope your son stays safe today.  Sorry I can't say good luck  :)  Safety to all the players whether from the Naperville School or Wheaton.  Let's have a good game with the proper emotions and no "extracurricular activities."

Not that the player in question deserves any more or less recognition than anyone else, and with apologies to newcardfan for letting the cat out of the bag if its a problem, but the player in question is Joey Michals, NCC's starting middle linebacker. I recently had the privilege of meeting Joey who, while a great player, is also a quality young man.

I'll echo matblake's wishes for a safe game for all.

Now its time to get ready to go see the Cardinals ring the bell. Just can't get too close to the actual ringing as my head is doing just that today following last night's celebration of my nephew returning from Afghanistan yesterday.  :)

Anyone know what the tie-break situation is if NCC, Wheaton and Elmhurst all finish with one loss in the conf?

Listening to the Carthage broadcast and they always do a good job.  38-24 Elmhurst. 14-7 Carthage at the half, but 17pts in the 3rd quarter has put Elmhurst in a good position.

If Elmhurst, NCC, and Wheaton all win next week, NCC wins the AQ by virtue of the tiebreaker, which is point differential. (Elmhurst is -29, Wheaton is +9 and NCC is +25). Wheaton's only chance is IWU beating Elmhurst which would give the Thunder the edge vs HTH.

Great performance by Jordan Roberts today and the Wheaton defense came to play. A dominating win by Wheaton.

Wheaton wins 35-21.  Wow... outstanding day for Wheaton coaches and players.  Congrats on taking the Bell back, when very few thought you could (myself included).

Roberts throws for 380 yards, 2 TD's.  Hiben with 12 catches for 127 yards, Cook with 11 catches for 181 yards and 1 TD.

The redzone turnovers and missed FG could have help Wheaton achieve the 20 point win they needed for tie-breaker scenarios, but at this point I'm just jacked about the win.  Woke my youngest daughter from her nap yelling at the computer.

Millikin 37
NPU 10

It was only a 15-10 game at the half, but, as so often seems to happen when the Vikings are close at halftime, the other team made adjustments and ran away with it in the second half. This time, MU didn't really break it open until the fourth quarter, but the Big Blue did open it up a bit with a TD at the end of the 3rd after an inexcusable too-many-men-on-the-field penalty against NPU gave MU a first down from a 4th-and-1 situation. That seemed to take the heart out of the Vikings, as the Big Blue buried them in the fourth quarter with two TDs and a safety.

Millikin doesn't really have much in the way of skill position players, but the two really good ones that they have -- QB Matt Holmes and WR/KR/PR Erik Tobey -- are spectacular. The two of them were almost the entire story today for the Millikin offense.

I'll be interested in seeing if a beleaguered NPU mentally checks out now, or if the Vikes rouse themselves to give as good a game as they possibly can next week at Wheaton. Problem is, Wheaton's upset win over NCC today will give the Sonic Atmospheric Disturbance something to play for. I'm afraid that NPU is going to get steamrollered next Saturday, no matter how "up" for the game the Vikings manage to get.

Not to be snide, and I have no dog in the fight as an outsider, but it seems as though Wheaton's ranking was definitely not a joke!
